Understanding vulnerabilities and resilience in binge eating disorder among female population and transgender individuals across the lifespan: a narrative review.

Binge eating disorder (BED) represents a significant public health concern due to its multifaceted physical, psychological, and economic consequences, all of which substantially impair the quality of life of affected individuals. Individuals with BED often experience persistent body dissatisfaction, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, and social prejudice. Fear of judgment, stigmatisation, and discrimination frequently leads to delays in, or complete avoidance of, seeking medical or psychological support. Although BED remains largely underdiagnosed, existing literature ind

Navigating the Psychosocial Journey: A Meta-Ethnographic Review of the Psychosocial Needs and Experiences of Children and Adolescents (0-19 Years) Diagnosed With Cancer Across the Care Continuum.

BACKGROUND: Survival rates for childhood cancer have improved; however, psychosocial challenges remain across diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Existing qualitative studies typically examine a single phase of care, limiting understanding of how psychosocial needs persist and change over time. AIM: This meta-ethnographic review synthesised qualitative evidence on the psychosocial needs and experiences of children and adolescents (0-19 years) diagnosed with cancer across the care continuum and examined how these needs evolve across phases. METHOD: A meta-ethnographic synthesis was conduc

Early adversity and inflammation at midlife: the moderating role of internalizing psychopathology.

BACKGROUND: Childhood adversity has been associated with increased peripheral inflammation in adulthood. However, not all individuals who experience early adversity develop these inflammatory outcomes. Separately, there is also a link between various internalizing emotional distress conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety, and fear) and inflammation in adulthood. It is possible the combination of adult emotional distress and past childhood adversity may be uniquely important for explaining psychopathology-related immune dysfunction at midlife. METHODS: Using data from the Midlife in the United S

Distrust, trauma, doubt, and protective reactions to coronavirus disease 2019: cautionary tales and lessons to learn for future pandemics: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Vaccine uptake has declined since the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic began. The pandemic changed people's perception about vaccination due to factors such as increasing mistrust in government, spread of misinformation, fear of side effects, unclear communication, concerns about rushed vaccine development, and opposition to mandates infringing on personal choice. Understanding different perspectives on vaccine decision-making is crucial for informing effective approaches to communicating about vaccines. CASE PRESENTATION: This study presents three cases with varying attitudes an

Multicomponent approach reveals differences in affective responses among children and adolescents.

Investigating age-related shifts in affective responses to emotionally salient stimuli is key to comprehending emotional development during childhood and adolescence. Most of the research regarding emotional experiences has focused on adults, while the understanding of the development of emotional experiences across childhood remains elusive. To address this gap, we explored whether physiological and behavioural responses as well as self-reported emotions elicited in children and adolescents by naturalistic stimuli differ from those in adults. We developed a set of emotional videos to elicit d

Childhood Shyness and Negative Social Cognitions in Emerging Adulthood: Adolescent Negative Peer Experiences as Moderators.

The purpose of this study was to use long-term longitudinal data to determine whether childhood shyness is associated with later negative social cognitions (rejection sensitivity and fear of negative evaluation) in emerging adulthood. Additionally, the prospective exacerbating roles of adolescent victimization and exclusion (self- and peer-reported) were examined. Participants were 119 Dutch individuals (50.5% male) from the Nijmegen Longitudinal Study, assessed at ages 9, 13, 16, and 21. Results showed a positive association between childhood shyness and emerging adult rejection sensitivity t

Understanding the Association Between Childcare Precarity and Emotional Distress.

BACKGROUND: For families with young children, securing reliable childcare may present a significant challenge. Rising costs, limited resources and the COVID-19 pandemic have heightened the precarity of childcare arrangements. Childcare precarity, defined as a state of insecure or unreliable childcare arrangements while parents work or attend school, reflects unpredictability in family life and early care and education settings and has important implications for families' economic and psychosocial well-being. This study aims at broadening the conceptualization of childcare precarity to include

Uncovering the wider impact of COVID-19 public health measures on the lives of children with complex care needs and their families in the Canadian Maritimes: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in rapid change across all sectors, including healthcare and education, as necessary public health measures (PHM) were implemented to protect the public. Children with complex care needs (CCCN) use health and specialised education services at a higher rate than the general paediatric population and were disproportionately affected by these changes. The current study aimed to explore the wider impacts of COVID-19 PHM on CCCN and their families in the Maritime provinces of Canada. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews were conducted from March to Septe
