Pixel shift-based reversible steganography for privacy-preserving medical images.

Steganography plays a critical role in preserving the privacy of medical images by protecting sensitive patient information without compromising image quality or diagnostic utility. This paper proposes a novel lossless privacy protection algorithm for medical images based on pixel displacement. The core innovation lies in the synergistic combination of physical transformation and deep learning-specifically, the integration of shift-rectification with a dual-carrier embedding mechanism. The proposed method begins by applying byte-level pixel shifting to the confidential medical image to generat

SLIRP differentially modulates RNA binding of pathogenic LRPPRC variants.

The LRPPRC/SLIRP complex is a key post-transcriptional regulator of mitochondrial gene expression, stabilizing mitochondrial mRNAs and promoting their polyadenylation and translation. Mutations in LRPPRC cause mitochondrial disorders, including Leigh syndrome French-Canadian type (LSFC), primarily affecting oxidative phosphorylation. Here, we examined the RNA-binding properties of wild-type LRPPRC and three pathogenic variants (A354V, K909del, and R1276_K1300del) using electrophoretic mobility shift assays, acoustic force spectroscopy, and AlphaFold 3 modeling. All three mutations reduced intr

Pathway-based molecular subtyping identifies LAMP5 as an EMT-associated prognostic target in colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a highly heterogeneous malignancy with substantial variability in clinical outcomes. Although established molecular classification systems have improved CRC stratification, pathway-level subtyping remains underexplored. A framework integrating pathway-based molecular subtype discovery, multi-cohort validation, single-cell projection, and mechanistic target identification is still lacking. METHODS: Transcriptomic data from TCGA CRC samples were transformed into pathway activity profiles using gene set variation analysis (GSVA), followed by consensus clust

Pulmonary Hypertension Molecular Switch: HIF Signaling Pathway.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a multifaceted disorder characterized by the crucial involvement of activated hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs). Recent investigations have unveiled HIFs' ability to orchestrate a wide array of signaling cascades, encompassing voltage-gated potassium channels, non-selective cation channels (NSCCs), Ca2+/PKC/MAPKs, PI3K/Akt, RhoA/ROCK, Notch, VEGF, and miRNA pathways. The interplay of these signaling cascades drives critical events, namely hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) and hypoxic pulmonary vascular remodeling (HPVR), which collectively contribute to the

Functional characterisation of PREL-1 and PREL-3 proteins as putative intramitochondrial phospholipid transporters governing homeostasis and organismal health in Caenorhabditis elegans.

INTRODUCTION: Mitochondrial phospholipids are crucial for maintaining structure and function; however, their roles and transport pathways are not fully understood in a multicellular model organism. In this study, we examined two putative Caenorhabditis elegans proteins, B0334.4 (PREL-1) and F15D3.6 (PREL-3), thought to be involved in intramitochondrial phospholipid transport. METHODS: In-silico molecular docking analysis was performed to predict phospholipid binding specificity of PREL-1 and PREL-3. RNA interference (RNAi) was used to knockdown the expression of these proteins in C. elegans.

Evolutionary Response Patterns of the Rodent TLR Genes to Climatic Factors.

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition receptors that play a crucial role in the innate immune response of animals. Their evolutionary dynamics are closely linked to pathogen pressure and environmental factors. At present, the relationship between the evolution of TLR genes and climatic factors remains poorly understood. In this study, we identified TLR1-TLR9 genes from 42 rodent species with relatively restricted distribution ranges. Phylogenetic comparative analyses, including phyANOVA and PGLS, were conducted to assess the relationship between evolutiona

Clinical and Pathophysiological Significance of Trace Elements in Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders and Oral Cancer: A 20-Year Narrative Review for Evidence-Based Public Health Intervention.

Our body is made up of many elements and compounds that work together to keep us healthy. Among them are trace elements, which are needed only in tiny amounts but play a very large role in protecting our cells from damage. When these trace elements are too low or too high, they can disturb the body's balance and may increase the risk of diseases such as oral cancer. In this study, we investigated how different trace elements are linked to early signs of oral cancer and precancerous conditions over the past 20 years. We reviewed studies available in the PubMed database that used elemental analy

Unraveling the role of rare earth dopants (Ce, La, Sm, and Y) in modifying the catalytic effect of TiO2 for MgH2 dehydrogenation: a first-principles analysis.

Magnesium hydride (MgH2) suffers from sluggish dehydrogenation kinetics owing to its strong Mg-H bonding, which limits its practical application. In this work, we present a systematic density functional theory (DFT) and climbing-image nudged elastic band (CI-NEB) study on the adsorption and dissociation behavior of MgH2 on rare-earth (RE = Ce, La, Sm, Y) doped TiO2(001) surfaces, with particular focus on the regulatory effects of doping configuration (substitutional vs. interstitial) and RE identity. Both doping modes are found to enhance surface charge transfer capability by introducing local

The integrated stress response in pancreatic β-cell failure in diabetes: from molecular mechanisms to precision therapeutics.

Diabetes mellitus is a global metabolic disorder characterized by progressive pancreatic β-cell failure, which leads to inadequate insulin secretion, often in combination with insulin resistance, and ultimately disrupts glucose homeostasis. The Integrated Stress Response (ISR), a crucial signaling network that enables cells to maintain homeostasis under endogenous and exogenous pressures, has garnered increasing attention for its role in regulating islet β-cell function and contributing to their failure. In recent years, a growing body of evidence has revealed that the ISR acts as a dual-edged

Combined inulin and glucomannan modulate colonic cytokine balance and mucosal barrier function in a western diet-induced colonic inflammation mouse model.

A rising worldwide health concern, inflammatory bowel disease is linked to western-style diets that damage intestinal barrier integrity, change gut microbiota, and increase colonic inflammation. In contrast, inulin and glucomannan enhance short-chain fatty acid production and preserve mucosal structure, suggesting a protective role against diet-induced colonic inflammation. This study aimed to investigate whether combined inulin and glucomannan supplementation prevents western diet-induced colonic inflammation by modulating intestinal barrier function and colonic inflammatory cytokine profiles

Non-coding RNAs as regulators of chromosomal instability in breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a highly heterogeneous disease characterized by extensive genomic and chromosomal instability (CIN), a hallmark that drives tumor evolution, intratumoral heterogeneity, therapeutic resistance, and poor clinical outcomes. Increasing evidence indicates that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are important regulators of genome maintenance and chromosome stability. However, their specific contributions to CIN and the strength of the available evidence remain incompletely understood. This review examines the role of the major ncRNA classes, including circular RNAs, microRNAs, PIWI-interactin

Expanded classification for immediate molar implant placement: Integrating root socket strategies beyond septal bone typing.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: This conceptual development study with exploratory clinical analysis aimed to create and preliminarily evaluate a six-category classification system for immediate implant placement (IIP) in molar extraction sites. IIP in molar regions remains challenging due to complex socket morphology and variable septal bone availability. Existing septal-based classifications (e.g., Smith-Tarnow) may exclude viable cases with favorable root socket anatomy. The system was developed through literature review, CBCT-based anatomical analysis, and Delphi expert consensus, with clinical applic

Triglyceride-Based Indices Versus Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance for Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index-Defined Insulin Resistance in Metabolic Syndrome: Implications for Resource-Constrained Healthcare.

Background Insulin resistance (IR) is an important pathogenic factor in metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its associated cardiometabolic complications. Insulin-based indices such as the Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and the Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI) are well-validated surrogates of IR; however, their dependence on fasting insulin assays restricts their implementation in limited-resource healthcare facilities. Triglyceride-based indices, especially the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, have been considered as affordable, insulin-free altern
