METHODS: Students at Hiroshima University completed a web-based health checkup questionnaire between April and June 2025. Data included baseline characteristics, lifestyle factors, family history of CC, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT)-26, and Bulimic Investigatory Test (BITE). CC was diagnosed using the Rome IV criteria. Mul

A health ecological model study of subjective cognitive decline among hypertensive patients in rural Shanxi, China.

Hypertension and subjective cognitive decline (SCD) frequently co-occur, consistent with broader multimorbidity patterns observed in aging populations and highlighting the need for targeted assessment of associated factors. This study aimed to test the hypothesis that multi-level factors across the five Health Ecological Model (HEM) layers are independently associated with SCD among hypertensive patients in rural China, and to identify specific associated factors within each layer. We conducted a cross-sectional study from May to August 2024 with 860 hypertensive patients selected from three r

Aseptic nonunion is prevalent in orthopedic practice, causing persistent pain and functional impairment. Humeral shaft fractures, accounting for 3-5% of all fractures, have nonunion rates of 2-33% in nonoperative and 5-10% in surgical management. This study, the largest case series on operative management of humeral shaft nonunion, examines surgical techniques and outcomes. This retrospective study, conducted at a referral center in eastern India, included 132 patients with aseptic humeral shaft nonunion from 2002 to 2020. Cases were from May 2002 to April 2012 and May 2015 to December 2020. P

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence to Restore Standards in Medical and Dental Education in Pakistan.

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

Risk factors for progression to type 2 diabetes in prediabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Prediabetes is the earliest identifiable stage of glycemic dysregulation, and its progression can be delayed by effective control of risk factors. Currently, various risk factors for the progression from prediabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) need to be further summarized. OBJECTIVE: This systematic evaluation of the risk factors for the progression of prediabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus provides a theoretical basis for early recognition and intervention. The meta-analysis identifies the Fatty Liver Index as a significant risk factor [OR = 6.14, 95% CI (5.22, 7.22)] fo

Beyond the liver: well-being as the bridge between fatigue and quality of life in chronic hepatitis B patients.

BACKGROUND: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) remains a significant public health challenge. Many CHB patients experience fatigue and impaired mental health, affecting their health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study investigates the relationships between fatigue, well-being, and HRQoL, while identifying risk factors for poor well-being in CHB patients. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 428 CHB patients. HRQoL, fatigue, and well-being were evaluated using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), fatigue was measured using the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20),

Epidemiology of Renal Cancer: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, Genetic Predisposition, and Risk Factors.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Renal cancer (RC) is a common malignancy. Its incidence and mortality rates vary by geographic area and sex, and are projected to increase in the future. This review aims to describe global epidemiology of RC examining its incidence, mortality, survival, genetic predisposition, and risk factors. METHODS: We obtained national estimates of the current and projected incidence and mortality from the Global Cancer Observatory of the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Incidence and mortality were defined as the number of new cases and deaths for the year 2022, re

Factors associated with hypertension among patients with type 2 diabetes: evidence from a resource-limited setting-Southern Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Globally, non-communicable diseases contribute to about three-quarters of all deaths. Developing nations face particular difficulties with the concurrent presence of diabetes and high blood pressure, problems intensified by poor nutrition habits, lack of physical exercise, and continuing high rates of illnesses like HIV/AIDS and malaria. A significant data gap in primary healthcare (PHC) data has been determined and prioritized by governments seeking to assess and enhance the prevention and management of chronic disease. OBJECTIVE: The main aim of the current study is to determine

Unmasking the microbiome: the hidden role of gut bacteria in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer and its prevention strategies.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant global health problem, ranking as the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the world. The highest incidence of CRC is found in developed regions, thus underlining its characterization as a Western disease. Major risk factors for CRC include an unhealthy diet, lack of physical exercise, and cigarette smoking. The gut microbiota refers to the complex community of microorganisms inhabiting the digestive tract and plays a crucial role in the maintenance of host health and modulation of immune responses. Gut dysbiosis can

Screen time reduction and Surya Namaskars-a comprehensive intervention for nonspecific back pain in adolescents: a study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that excessive screen time exposure and a lack of physical exercise are associated with nonspecific back pain in adolescents. Reduced screen time exposure and Surya Namaskars (Sun Salutations) have physical and psychological benefits. We aim to test a novel comprehensive school-based intervention module-Screen time reduction and Surya Namaskars (SanSKAR) for reducing the proportion of school-going adolescents reporting nonspecific back pain. The word "sanskar" originates in Sanskrit and roughly means good values or actions. METHODS: The study will be conducted i

The Role of Endocrine Disruptors Bisphenols and Phthalates in Obesity: Current Evidence, Perspectives and Controversies.

Excess body weight constitutes one of the major health challenges for societies and healthcare systems worldwide. Besides the type of diet, calorie intake and the lack of physical exercise, recent data have highlighted a possible association between endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as bisphenol A, phthalates and their analogs, and obesity. EDCs represent a heterogeneous group of chemicals that may influence the hormonal regulation of body mass and adipose tissue morphology. Based on the available data from mechanistic, animal and epidemiological studies including meta-analyses, the
