Severe back pain and neck/shoulder pain in experienced nurses in Sweden - a descriptive cross-sectional study of general health and pain characteristics, use of health resources and impact of pain on work.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of back pain and neck/shoulder pain among nurses is high. This study reports a detailed description of health related characteristics of experienced nurses with and without severe back pain or severe neck/shoulder pain in Sweden. METHODS: Cross-sectional data was collected in a national investigation of nursing graduates from 26 Swedish universities to identify three groups of nurses 11–15 years after graduation: nurses with severe back pain (n = 212), nurses with severe neck/shoulder pain (n = 277), and nurses with no or little such pain (n = 1525). Severe pain was

[Therapeutic role of physical activity in relationship between chronic pain and sleep quality in musculoskeletal disorders].

Musculoskeletal diseases represent a major public health problem worldwide, as they are associated with pain, reduced musculoskeletal function, and diminished quality of life. They affect more than 1.7 billion people globally, and their prevalence continues to rise due to ageing, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, and psychosocial factors. Chronic pain is the most common complaint, which may appear as an independent condition or as a consequence of other diseases such as osteoarthritis, spondylosis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Pain and sleep disturbances are closely and mutually related: inadequate sl

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Non-communicable Diseases in an Adult Tribal Population of Kanyakumari District, India: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background The broad category of illnesses known as non-communicable diseases (NCDs) includes conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and chronic respiratory disorders. It causes million deaths worldwide each year, or of all fatalities. The concerning rise in NCDs is thought to be caused by the increasing prevalence of anthropometric and behavioural risk factors for these lifestyle diseases. Due to poor diet, greater exposure to harmful addictions such as tobacco, and lack of access to healthcare services, NCD rates are steadily rising among India's marginalised people (tribal). In

The Aesthetic Form of Perezhivanie: An Ethnographic Study of Becoming an Environmental Scholar-Activist.

End-stage renal disease is closely associated with changes in bone and mineral metabolism. In recent times, osteoporosis has become important among hemodialysis (HD) patients. In this study, the investigators sought to evaluate the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and biochemical markers of bone turnover among HD patients. A total of 70 uremic patients on a maintenance HD program for at least 1 y were enrolled in the study. All patients were treated with conventional bicarbonated HD for 5 h through the use of low-flux hollow-fiber dialyzers. Bone densitometry was measured by dua

Proteomic analysis in hidradenitis suppurativa reveals systemic inflammation in all disease stages.

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by painful, inflamed lesions in the apocrine gland-bearing regions and systemic involvement. While inflammatory cytokines including IL-6 and IL-17A have been implicated in HS pathogenesis, the extent and clinical correlates of systemic inflammation remain incompletely defined. OBJECTIVES: To characterize systemic inflammatory profiles in a well-defined cohort of largely untreated HS patients and assess associations with disease severity and duration, quality of life and lifestyle factors. METHODS:

Pro-Inflammatory Dietary Profiles Are Associated with Psychosocial Functioning in Spanish Adolescents: Findings from the EHDLA Study.

Background: Dietary factors may influence psychosocial outcomes through inflammatory pathways, but evidence in adolescents remains limited. The aim was to examine whether dietary inflammatory potential is associated with psychosocial functioning among Spanish adolescents. Methods: This cross-sectional study is based on a subsample from the Eating Healthy and Daily Life Activities (EHDLA) project, conducted in the Region of Murcia (Spain). Dietary inflammatory potential was assessed using a dietary inflammatory index (DII)-informed Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ)-derived inflammatory score b

Protocol for the internet-based lifestyle intervention to eradicate obese frailty in prostate cancer survivors (iLIVE) randomized controlled trial: a type I hybrid effectiveness implementation trial.

BACKGROUND: Obese frailty is a growing national problem as trends towards aging and obesity converge. This problem is especially acute in men with prostate cancer treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). ADT is the backbone of therapy for advanced prostate cancer, a disease which affects mostly older men. But, ADT accelerates muscle loss and gains in adiposity which threaten physical functioning and quality of life. Diet and resistance training may mitigate obese frailty but have rarely been combined in an accessible delivery format. METHODS: The Internet-Based Lifestyle Intervention t

Gambling help seeking and self-management in New Zealand and Australia: a cross-sectional survey with quota sampling of priority populations.

BACKGROUND: Efforts to address gambling harm often rely on narrow definitions of help seeking that focus on professional treatment. This approach overlooks the many other ways people seek support, use tools, or take action to reduce or control their gambling. This study aimed to examine the uptake of a broader range of help seeking and self-management approaches among people who gamble, across priority populations, including Māori, Pacific, Asian and Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI), and among people experiencing different levels of gambling harm. METHODS: A 58-item che

Quantifying the fatal and non-fatal burden of disease associated with child growth failure, 2000-2023: a systematic analysis from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023.

BACKGROUND: Child growth failure (CGF), which includes underweight, wasting, and stunting, is among the factors most strongly associated with mortality and morbidity in children younger than 5 years worldwide. Poor height and bodyweight gain arise from a variety of biological and sociodemographic factors and are associated with increased vulnerability to infectious diseases. We used data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 to estimate CGF prevalence, the risk of infectious diseases associated with CGF, and the disease mortality, morbidity, and overal

Perception and reality: assessing the accuracy of self-assessed dysphonia and dysphagia risk in people with cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a chronic condition influenced by aging and lifestyle, and its effects extend to systems involved in voice and swallowing. Age-related changes in these functions are common, and when worsened by CVD, they can lead to isolation, malnutrition, and complications such as aspiration pneumonia. This study investigated how individuals with CVD perceive their risk of dysphonia and dysphagia compared with clinician-administered screening-based assessments. METHODS: Seventy-three participants (mean age 65.2 years; 86.3% male) completed structured s

Identifying and addressing health problems of school children through the Omaha System: a nurse-led intervention study in suburban Istanbul.

BACKGROUND: Health problems such as anxiety, depression, obesity, and dental caries are increasingly common among school-aged children. Early detection and timely interventions are essential to promote healthy childhoods and reduce future healthcare burdens. Especially in Turkey, few studies have addressed schoolchildren’s health problems holistically, particularly using the Omaha System. This study aimed to identify the physiological, psychosocial, health-related behavioral, and environmental health problems of migrant and non-migrant schoolchildren in suburban Istanbul, to implement person-c

Environmental, biological and behavioral factors influencing vitamin D status.

Vitamin D (VD) deficiency represents a global health problem affecting populations across all age groups, regardless of place of residence, sex, race, or body mass. Unlike other vitamins, it functions in the human body as a prohormone. Its active form, calcitriol, regulates calcium-phosphate homeostasis and exerts pleiotropic immunological, cardiometabolic, neuroprotective, and anticancer effects. The primary source of VD is cutaneous synthesis induced by UVB radiation, which under favorable conditions can fully meet the body's requirements. Fatty fish constitute the main exogenous source of v

Research on Eating and Adolescent Lifestyle (REAL) 2.0: 15-year follow-up study of eating disorders and weight-related trajectories, mental health and substance use health from early adolescence to early adulthood-a Canadian cohort profile.

PURPOSE: Few studies have examined how psychosocial risk and protective factors in adolescence shape mental health outcomes and other multimorbid conditions in adulthood, particularly among Canadian youth. The Research on Eating and Adolescent Lifestyle (REAL) 2.0 study was a 15-year follow-up cohort study designed to investigate how early etiological factors, including body image and disordered eating symptoms in adolescence, contribute to the development of eating, weight-related concerns, mental health and substance use health problems in early adulthood. In this paper, we describe the REAL

Life experiences of humiliation, entrapment, and frontoparietal-cerebellar connectivity predict adolescent anxiety and depression symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to major life stressors and aberrant brain functioning have been related to anxiety and depression in adolescence. However, whether these associations differ based on the specific characteristics of the stressors and/or brain functional networks remains unclear. METHODS: In a longitudinal sample of adolescents enriched for anxiety and depressive disorders, we examined cumulative lifetime stressor frequency and severity of five stressor characteristics: physical danger, interpersonal loss, humiliation, entrapment, and role change/disruption. Anxiety and depression symptoms
