Evaluating the dependability of peer assessment in project-based learning for pre-clinical students: a generalizability theory approach.

INTRODUCTION: Peer assessment enables students to evaluate peers, deepening their understanding of course objectives and boosting engagement. However, its dependability, especially in summative contexts, is often questioned. This study examines the dependability of peer assessments, and the optimal number of items and raters needed for a reliable assessment in project-based learning (PtBL). METHODS: In a PtBL class, 95 third-year pre-clinical students, grouped into ten teams, created 5-min videos on cardiovascular lifestyle modifications for the community, followed by a 5-min presentation on

Lifestyle modification interventions that target health-risk behaviours can prevent or reduce their negative effects. The goal of this project was to investigate the effectiveness and underlying mechanisms of lifestyle modification interventions in adults with learning disabilities. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to determine the effectiveness of lifestyle modificat

Investigating the Causes of Non-adherence to Recommended Lifestyle Modifications Among Indian Patients With Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus or Hypertension.

Background and objective Lifestyle modification (related to diet and physical activity) is a key part of treatment for patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or hypertension. However, many patients are unable to follow the prescribed lifestyle modifications. This study aimed to investigate the causes of non-adherence in Indian adult patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or hypertension, who were advised lifestyle modifications along with pharmacotherapy. Problems encountered in observing adherence were recorded, and suggestions on how patient adherence may be improved

Development of an explainable machine learning model for predicting depression in adolescent girls with non-suicidal self-injury: A cross-sectional multicenter study.

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in adolescent girls is a critical predictor of subsequent depression and suicide risk, yet current tools lack both accuracy and clinical interpretability. We developed the first explainable machine learning model integrating multicenter psychosocial data to predict depression among Chinese adolescent girls with NSSI, addressing the critical need for culturally tailored risk stratification tools. In this cross - sectional observational study, our model was developed using data from 14 hospitals. We used five categories of data as predictors, including individual,

Deep phenotyping to understand hearing and hearing disorders: Protocol for a feasibility study.

Globally, hearing loss affects around 1.5 billion people, while tinnitus is estimated to impact around 740 million. More research is urgently needed to address the challenges presented by hearing loss, tinnitus, and other hearing-related conditions. Our plans for a Nottingham Hearing BioResource, providing research-willing volunteers and comprehensive tests of hearing and ear health repeated over time, has the potential to accelerate the field. The protocol described here is a feasibility study for this BioResource, specifically addressing questions of recruitment from the general population (

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)-Based Interoperability Design in Indonesia: Content Analysis of Developer Hub's Social Networking Service.

BACKGROUND: Interoperability in health care is a critical aspect for the exchange of health information. The Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) framework has become widely adopted to provide interoperable data exchange in the health care industry. The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the significance of interoperable data in tracking patients who have contracted the virus and keeping track of the vaccinated population. Indonesia is one of the many countries that have implemented interoperable data systems to track patients with COVID-19, and it has aspirations to expand the sy

Extensive modulation of the circulating blood proteome by hormonal contraceptive use across two population studies.

BACKGROUND: The study of circulating blood proteins in population cohorts offers new avenues to explore lifestyle-related and genetic influences describing and shaping human health. METHODS: Utilizing high-throughput mass spectrometry, we quantified 148 highly abundant proteins, functioning in the innate and adaptive immune system, coagulation and nutrient transport in 3632 blood plasma, and 500 serum samples from the CHRIS and BASE-II cross-sectional population studies, respectively. Through multiple regression analyses, we aimed to identify the main factors influencing the circulating prote

A cluster randomized controlled trial of the effectiveness of a Parents Plus group-based parenting program to promote healthy lifestyles among children and their families.

BACKGROUND: Childhood obesity is a global public health concern. In Ireland, the age standardized prevalence rates for obesity in children and adolescents are about 1% higher than the average for countries in the WHO European Region. The Parents Plus Healthy Families program (PP-HF), an 8-week, group-based, multicomponent parent training intervention, was designed to prevent childhood obesity by helping parents promote healthy habits within their families. METHODS: A multisite cluster randomized controlled trial was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the PP-HF program across 16 com

A Fresh Look at Problem Areas in Research Methodology in Nutrition.

This paper makes a critical evaluation of several of the research methods used to investigate the relationship between diet, health, and disease. The two widely used methods are randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and prospective cohort studies. RCTs are widely viewed as being more reliable than cohort studies and for that reason are placed higher in the research hierarchy. However, RCTs have inherent flaws and, consequently, they may generate findings that are less reliable than those from cohort studies. The text presents a discussion of the errors that may occur as a result of confounding.

Advice over empathy: a national cross-sectional examination of communication in united states dietetic education.

BACKGROUND: Empathy is an important element of patient communication and is well operationalized in established approaches to one-on-one communication, such as motivational interviewing (MI). The accurate demonstration of empathy is especially important when seeking to facilitate a change in behavior, such as in lifestyle or diet, given these issues often involve psychological barriers versus knowledge deficits. Registered dietitians are a key licensed healthcare provider tasked with facilitating changes in diet, but the extent to which current educational standards in the United States (US) c
