Is napping harmless? Nighttime sleep health and all-cause mortality in community-dwelling older Vietnamese adults.

OBJECTIVES: This study examined whether nap types (duration and regular vs. as-needed naps) were associated with mortality among older Vietnamese adults and whether nighttime sleep health moderated this association. METHODS: Data were from the Longitudinal Study of Ageing and Health in Vietnam (2018-2023; n=4447; baseline mean age=69.74 years; 55.5% female). All-cause mortality at 4-year follow-up was the outcome. Self-reported napping included no nap (reference), regular short naps (<30 minutes), regular intermediate naps (30-59minutes), regular long naps (≥60 minutes), as-needed short naps,

Neuroplastin Suppresses Seizures by Downregulating Endophilin A1 to Promote Internalization of GluA1-AMPA Receptors: Therapeutic Implications of Arbutin.

Status epilepticus (SE) is a critical neurological disorder characterized by an imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission. α-Amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptors (AMPARs) mediate fast excitatory synaptic transmission, whereas internalization of GluA1-containing AMPARs regulates neuronal excitability. Although neuroplastin (Np) modulates neuronal excitability, its role in GluA1-AMPAR internalization in epilepsy remains unclear. Using single-cell transcriptomics, virtual knockout, in vitro and in vivo epilepsy models, patch-clamp, biochemistry, and beh

The "mobile bricks" of human evolution: how transposable elements shaped human phenotypes.

Far from being "junk" and devoid of function, transposable elements have been identified as players in genomes evolution and regulation, and are also used as valuable genetic markers to study population differentiation. Here we present a detailed review on how transposons participated in human evolution: from adaptation to extreme environments and response to both internal and external stressors, to phenotypes directly emerging from transposon mobilization activities. We dedicate a section to brain plasticity and neuronal differentiation, highlighting the possible role of transposable elements

P2Y6 receptor activation promotes the migration, invasion and glycogen accumulation of colorectal cancer through AKT/mTOR signaling.

Recent studies have shown that G protein-coupled P2Y6 receptor (P2Y6R) can play a promoting or inhibitory role in some tumors, but the functional effect of P2Y6R on the migration and invasion of colorectal cancer (CRC) is still poorly understood. Therefore, this study comprehensively investigated whether the P2Y6R plays a promoting or inhibiting role in the migration and invasion of CRC. Public databases were used to investigate the intrinsic association between P2Y6R and CRC tissue. Functional experiments was used to investigate the effects of P2Y6R activation or inhibition on CRC migration,

The Relationship Between Spousal Support and Nurse Burnout: A Parallel Dual-Mediator Model of Work-Family Conflict and Work-Family Facilitation.

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether work-family conflict (WFC) and work-family facilitation (WFF) act as parallel statistical mediators in the association between spousal support (SS) and burnout among nurses. BACKGROUND: Nurse burnout represents a substantial management challenge, contributing to high staff turnover and diminished quality of patient care. SS is a potentially important protective resource for mitigating burnout. Nevertheless, the mechanisms through which SS influences nurse burnout, particularly via positive work-family spillover, remain understudied within nursing populations. ME

Processing canonical and non-canonical word orders in Turkish: behavioral and ERP evidence from adults and children.

INTRODUCTION: Turkish permits grammatical non-canonical word order while morphological case marking disambiguates thematic roles. METHODS: We examined comprehension accuracy and verb-locked event-related potentials (ERPs) to Turkish canonical subject-object-verb (SOV) and non-canonical object-subject-verb (OSV) sentences in adults (n = 67; 18-44 years) and children (n = 37; 4.3-9.7 years). RESULTS: Accuracy was lower for OSV than SOV in both groups, with a significantly larger SOV-OSV accuracy difference in children. Adults showed a late posterior OSV > SOV positivity, with significant effec

The Role of Measurement in Identifying High-Intensity Secure Message Senders Among Older Adults: Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Use of secure messaging within the patient portal has grown rapidly over recent years, yet clinical workflows, staffing models, and billing practices have generally not been comprehensively adapted to support this increasing volume of messages. Little is known about the characteristics of patients who are high-volume message senders, and we lack a nuanced understanding of patient messaging intensity beyond measures accounting for sheer volume, limiting health system efforts to anticipate message-related workflow demands and allocate resources effectively. OBJECTIVE: Our objective

Riboflavin-photosensitized lipid oxidation in oil-in-water nanoemulsions: effects of oxygen scavengers and metal chelator.

This study examined how droplet size affects riboflavin-photosensitized lipid oxidation in oil-in-water emulsions and evaluated the roles of sodium azide (SA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) under light exposure. A model oil phase containing octadecane as the carrier oil and methyl linoleate as the oxidizable lipid substrate was used, while sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) served as a model anionic surfactant. Small- and large-droplet O/W (O/W) emulsions were produced by high-pressure homogenization at 20,000 psi and 1,500 psi, respectively and the emulsion

Dimensional convergence at the nanoscale: a novel synthesis of experimental evidence justifying direct measurement of quantum coherence in microtubules.

We synthesize convergent experimental evidence from five independent research groups (2016-2025) addressing the longstanding "too warm, too wet" objection to quantum biology. Three recent experiments (2024-2025) demonstrate: (i) Wang et al. measured enhanced dielectric response and proton conductivity in nanoconfined water at 295 K, establishing extreme in-plane Coulomb screening at 1-2 nm; (ii) Rodríguez-Rubio et al. synthesized porphyrin nanobelts demonstrating room-temperature ring currents in 80-120 π-electron networks; (iii) Babcock et al. measured optical signatures consistent with ultra

Identification of critical sites for glycine- and cesium-dependent activation of the RNA-edited glycine receptor α3L.

Glycine receptors (GlyRs) are chloride permeable ligand-gated ion channels that play an important role in synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. Besides glycine as neurotransmitter, cesium (Cs+) was shown to activate homomeric GlyRs with α2 and α3 subunits, and a recent study revealed the position D194 as essential for activation of RNA-edited GlyR α3185L at the cell surface. This position in the N-terminal extracellular ligand-binding domain belongs to a series of amino acid positions (D141, E192, D194 and D91, D97, E110, D114, Y161) predicted to be involved in Cs+ binding. A novel CAF-related gene signature for prognostic and immunotherapy response prediction in PDAC based on single-cell RNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq data.

Increasing evidence shows that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) contribute to tumor progression, create an immunosuppressive microenvironment, and promote resistance to immunotherapy. However, the CAF-related gene signature in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains largely unexplored. In our study, we constructed a nine-gene CAF-related signature and found that it strongly correlated with the prognosis of PDAC patients in different cohorts. Subsequently, we found that the CAF-related gene signature was associated with the genomic alteration landscape, immune infiltration landscape
