Neonatal Training across Union of European Medical Specialists Member Countries: A Survey from the Next Generation of Neonatologists.

UNLABELLED: <p>Introduction: Taking care of critically ill newborn infants is challenging, even more so in the current era of greater use of non-invasive support, leaving limited exposure to learn critical skills. Supporting a growing workforce of neonatologists requires training of doctors with formal curriculums and assessment of skills ensuring delivery of high-quality care. Our aim was to gain an understanding of neonatal trainee experiences regarding current neonatal training across Union of European Medical Specialists (UEMS) member countries. The main focus of this survey was on pulmono

Identifying Unmet Needs of Families With Children and Youth With Special Health Care Needs in a Preparedness Intervention Connected to the Medical Home.

BACKGROUND: Families with children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN)-especially those with complex or multiple morbidities-have additional considerations when planning for emergencies. These families can also have health-related social needs that make achieving household emergency preparedness especially challenging. Our objective was to identify and address the unmet social needs and emergency preparedness needs in a diverse sample of families of CYSHCN recruited from a network of medical homes across Pennsylvania as part of a home-focused, virtual emergency preparedness inter

A universal home-visit programme to tailor support to first-time parents: a qualitative case study on parents' perspectives.

BACKGROUND: The first year of a child's life is essential for promoting a healthy life, and the transition to becoming a parent can be a challenge; parents need to develop confidence in their own capacity to care for their child. The national Child Health Services programme in Sweden offers parental support, both on a universal level and in accordance with the individual family's needs. This study explores parents' experiences of an extended home-visit programme offered through a Family Centre to all first-time parents in a municipality. METHODS: This case study is based on a qualitative refl

Association of Child Opportunity Index 3.0 With Imaging Missed Care Opportunities in Ambulatory Pediatric Nuclear Medicine Examinations.

OBJECTIVES: There is a paucity of data on missed imaging appointments, also known as imaging missed care opportunities (IMCOs), in pediatric nuclear medicine (NM) and related sociodemographic factors, specifically, Child Opportunity Index (COI), a composite measure of US neighborhood resources linked to healthy child development. COI levels group neighborhoods into quintiles: very low, low, moderate, high, and very high opportunity. The primary aim was to examine association of COI with IMCOs for ambulatory pediatric NM examinations and secondarily assess other sociodemographic factors affecti

Health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their grandparents: a Western Australian retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: In Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, childcare is traditionally shared by kin. Little is known about how grandparental care impacts Aboriginal child health and evidence from other countries is mixed. We explored relationships between grandparental health (a proxy for grandparental care) and health and health service use by Aboriginal children born in Western Australia from 2000 to 2013. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort study using linked administrative health data. Outcomes were child mortality, hospital admissions, and emergency department (ED)

Impact of RSV hospitalization on healthcare costs, caregivers' productivity loss, and quality of life in children ≤ 2 years old in five European countries.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of hospitalizations in young children globally. We evaluated direct medical costs, caregiver work loss, and child quality of life (QoL) impairment associated with RSV hospitalization. Children ≤ 2 years with laboratory-confirmed RSV infection were prospectively identified between October 2020 and May 2023 at ten hospitals in Germany, Spain, Italy, France, and England. Direct costs were calculated based on country-specific unit costs per hospital day. Productivity loss and QoL impairment were ascertained by two validated, caregiver-administer

Global burden of lower respiratory infections and aetiologies, 1990-2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023.

BACKGROUND: Lower respiratory infections (LRIs) remain the world's leading infectious cause of death. This analysis from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2023 provides global, regional, and national estimates of LRI incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), with attribution to 26 pathogens, including 11 newly modelled pathogens, across 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2023. With new data and revised modelling techniques, these estimates serve as an update and expansion to GBD 2021. Through these estimates, we also aimed to

Spatial variations and determinants of iron containing foods consumption among 6-23 months old children in Ethiopia: spatial, and multilevel analysis.

Consuming foods high in iron benefits metabolic processes as well as the development of the neonatal and fetal brain. Despite the significance of eating foods high in iron for public health, Ethiopian practices are still limited when compared to the World Health Organization's (WHO) assessment of its consumption of such foods. This study used the Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS) to evaluate the consumption of iron-rich foods, regional clustering, and related characteristics among children aged 6-23 months. The information was taken from the typical EDHS 2019 dataset, which include
