A Case of Anterior Mediastinal Hodgkin Lymphoma Exhibiting Abundant Intratumoral Vascular Structures on Computed Tomography.

Hodgkin lymphoma shows a bimodal age distribution, predominantly affecting young adults and individuals in their 50s and 60s, and is the most common type of lymphoma occurring in the mediastinum. Typical computed tomography (CT) imaging findings include a bulky mass arising in the anterior mediastinum (prevascular compartment) with homogeneous soft-tissue attenuation. Herein, we report a case with unusual CT findings characterized by abundant internal vascular structures in an 18-year-old man with nodular sclerosis classic Hodgkin lymphoma who presented with hemoptysis. Histopathologic examina

Robot-assisted thoracoscopic resection of a costal cartilage chondrosarcoma mimicking anterior mediastinal teratoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Chondrosarcoma arising from the costal cartilage is extremely rare. When such a tumor extends toward the mediastinum, it may present as a well-defined mass that is difficult to distinguish from a primary anterior mediastinal tumor. We report a case diagnosed preoperatively as a mature teratoma but later proven to be a grade 1 chondrosarcoma of the costal cartilage. CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old asymptomatic woman was incidentally found to have an abnormal shadow on chest imaging. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a well-defined, calcified mass measuring 37 × 31 × 2

Genome-wide association study of grain hardness and novel Puroindoline alleles in bread wheat.

UNLABELLED: Grain hardness is a critical quality trait that determines the processing properties and commercial value of wheat, playing an essential role in both food security and the high-quality development of the wheat industry. In this study, we used an association panel of 233 wheat accessions to measure the grain hardness index (HI) across four different environments. Based on the re-sequencing data, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify the genetic loci associated with wheat grain hardness. We detected two environmentally stable QTLs named QHa.hzau-5D and QHa.h

Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy With or Without Platelet-Rich Plasma: A Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is increasingly used in orthopedic and spine surgery for its regenerative and anti-inflammatory effects, yet its clinical efficacy as an adjunct to percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) remains uncertain. METHODS: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar through September 2025. Five comparative studies involving 479 patients met the inclusion criteria. Extracted outcomes included postoperative pain (VAS for low back and leg pain), functional recovery (ODI and JOA scores), MRI-based structural me

Mediastinal teratoma as a cause of pleural effusion.

INTRODUCTION: Teratomas are congenital tumors originating from pluripotent germ cells that contain derivatives of the three germ layers. One of their extragonadal forms is the anterior mediastinum, where they can present atypically. CLINICAL CASE: A 3-year-old female patient was diagnosed with a cystic mediastinal teratoma in the context of pleural effusion due to tumor rupture. With negative tumor markers, surgical resolution was performed, which evidenced a heterogeneous tumor, adhered to adjacent structures, that was completely resected. The histopathology was compatible with a mature tera

A Case of IgG4-Related Disease That Mimics an Anterior Mediastinal Malignant Tumour.

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibroinflammatory disease characterised by elevated serum IgG4 levels and marked infiltration of IgG4-positive plasma cells. Here, we present the case of a 49-year-old man who presented with dysphagia and hoarseness caused by an anterior mediastinal mass. As the fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) SUVmax was 6.68 (early and delayed), malignancy was initially suspected. Serum IgG4 levels were slightly elevated at 148 mg/dL. Surgical biopsy revealed dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltration with storiform fibrosis and numerous IgG4-positive pl

VATS resection of a large mediastinal teratoma abutting great vessels.

Mature mediastinal teratomas are uncommon benign germ cell tumours that typically arise in the anterior mediastinum. Although minimally invasive resection has become standard for many mediastinal lesions, its application remains debated when tumours are closely associated with major vascular structures. We describe a case of a 22-year-old male diagnosed with a large anterior mediastinal teratoma abutting the superior vena cava, both brachiocephalic veins, the aorta, and the right phrenic nerve. After thorough evaluation, the patient underwent successful bilateral video-assisted thoracoscopic (

A rare case of plexiform neurofibroma.

Plexiform neurofibroma is a rare benign peripheral nerve sheath tumor that occurs almost exclusively in patients with neurofibromatosis type I (NF1). This report presents a 10-year-old patient with multiple enlarging masses on the left and posterior neck for 4 years, accompanied by pain and restricted neck movement. Radiographic evaluation revealed a soft tissue mass without bony abnormalities, while Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) demonstrated multiple confluent, ill-defined, infiltrative lesions involving bilateral cervical regions and extending into the anterior mediastinum. The lesions sh

Thymic Atypical Carcinoid Mimicking Recurrent Type A Thymoma on Frozen Section: A Diagnostic Pitfall Resolved by Intraoperative Imprint Cytology.

Thymic neuroendocrine neoplasms (tNENs) are rare anterior mediastinal tumors with aggressive behavior and can be misdiagnosed as type A thymoma on small biopsies or intraoperative frozen sections, although accurate distinction is critical for prognosis and management. Type A thymoma, while generally considered a low-grade malignant tumor with a favorable prognosis, comprises a small subset that exhibits aggressive features and develops distant metastases after surgical resection; these tumors are classified as atypical type A thymomas. A 72-year-old woman had a history of resected atypical typ

A rare mediastinal-type superior vena cava cavernous hemangioma successfully treated with surgical resection under cardiopulmonary bypass condition: a case report.

Of the anterior mediastinal tumors, cavernous hemangiomas originating from the superior vena cava (SVC) in this region are rare. We present a case in which the chest CT scan during a health check-up revealed an irregular, patchy soft-tissue density shadow in the thymic region, measuring approximately 5.5 × 3.5 cm in diameter. Eight months later, an enhanced chest CT scan at our hospital demonstrated an irregular, mass-like soft-tissue density shadow in the anterior mediastinum, with poorly defined borders adjacent to vascular structures and an increased diameter of approximately 6.0 × 3.8 cm.

Preoperative treatment with thyroid artery embolization in a patient with a giant retrosternal goiter causing severe tracheal compression: A case report.

More than one-tenth of the world's population is to some degree affected by goiters. Patients with thyroid nodules usually have no symptoms, but giant retrosternal goiters often causes symptoms such as difficulty breathing due to compression. Surgical operation is currently the main treatment for giant retrosternal goiters. However, retrosternal goiters usually require open chest surgery, which carries considerable risks, increases the rate of recurrence and increases the risk of intraoperative damage to important structures such as the large blood vessels and thoracic ducts. Thyroid artery em

Cooccurrence of myelodysplastic neoplasm and myeloid sarcoma with background mediastinal germ cell tumor: an autopsy case.

Hematological malignancy (HM) is developed in 2-6% patients with primary mediastinal germ cell tumor (MGCT). Symptoms of HM associated with MGCT usually appear after diagnosis of MGCT. Patients with MGCT underlying HM have poor prognosis. We report an extremely rare autopsy case of simultaneous presentation of MGCT, myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS) with low blasts, and myeloid sarcoma (MS). A 27-year-old man presented with intermittent fever, general fatigue, and cough. Computed tomography revealed 11 cm mass in anterior mediastinum, hepatosplenomegaly, and gastric, pericholedochal, and mesenter

Giant mature mediastinal teratoma mimicking a pericardial cyst.

BACKGROUND: Mature mediastinal teratomas are uncommon benign germ cell tumors. When the cystic component predominates and typical features such as fat or calcification are absent, diagnosis can be misleading. A 17-year-old male had a brief syncopal episode two months prior. At presentation, his primary complaint was mild chest tightness. Chest computed tomography showed a 13.6 × 10.3 × 7.9 cm homogeneous cystic mass in the anterior mediastinum, closely attached to the pericardium. Attenuation measured 17 ± 15 Hounsfield units on non-contrast computed tomography, consistent with fluid density a
