BACKGROUND: Primary care providers (PCPs) care for their patients in part by helping them to follow cancer screening guidelines, including screening mammography. However, completing screening and follow-up due to abnormal results can be difficult for PCPs caring for patients with barriers to care, such as persons experiencing homelessness (PEH). The large population of PEH in the US have many unmet healthcare needs, high cancer prevalence and mortality, and therefore a need for cancer screening interventions. Hence we created and evaluated a specialized breast cancer screening program for PEH.

BACKGROUND: Women of Black African/Caribbean heritage in the UK are more likely to develop breast cancer at an early age (before being eligible for breast screening from 50 years of age), be diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, and have lower survival than White British women. Culturally acceptable interventions are needed to encourage timely symptomatic presentation.
OBJECTIVE: Using the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) stages of intervention development, we developed the design brief for an intervention to be delivered in ante-natal settings to Black women not yet eligible for breast cancer s

Cancer antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) are used alongside clinical and radiologic assessment in metastatic breast cancer, but progression may occur without a preceding increase in either marker. We examined whether this differed according to newly documented anatomical involvement around radiographic progression. We analyzed 4517 radiographic progression events from 1592 patients in the Memorial Sloan Kettering-Clinical History of Real-World Data (MSK-CHORD) breast cancer cohort. A qualifying marker rise was defined as a ≥25% increase in CA15-3 or CEA from the precedin

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. In Shenzhen, breast cancer screening is available through both a government-funded free program and a range of out-of-pocket or employer-sponsored options; however, evidence on factors associated with sustained screening remains limited. This study aimed to examine the direct and indirect associations of sociodemographic and health-related characteristics and health belief model (HBM) constructs with self-reported sustained breast cancer screening among women in Shenzhen, China.
METHODS: A cross-sectional s

BACKGROUND Standard screening mammogram views focus on the lateral and posterior breast tissues; the view that best visualizes the intermammary area, the 90-degree lateral or cleavage view, is not typically performed. The limited field of view of mammogram increases the importance of additional imaging with CT, ultrasound, and MRI as a tool in diagnosing neoplasm in the intermammary area. To date, intermammary primary breast carcinoma has been reported only a few times in the literature, and none of these described direct sternal invasion at presentation. A 64-year-old woman with a history of bilateral recurrent breast cancer (intraductal carcinoma in the right breast and invasive lobular carcinoma in the left breast) had an FDG-PET-CT scan since her tumor markers were high. The FDG-PET-CT scan showed a moderate increase in FDG avidity in the diffuse thickened stomach wall. Endoscopic and endosonographic examinations revealed no malignancy. After two negative biopsies, suspicious imaging led to exploratory laparoscopy, and a trucut biopsy confirmed linitis plastica-like lobular breast cancer metastasis. Our aim with this case report and the rev

AIMS: Post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) are a substantial yet underrecognised mental health concern in oncology. Large-scale epidemiological data across diverse cancer types are scarce. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to identify socio-demographic and psychosocial correlates in a large, unselected outpatient cohort.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 4,103 adult outpatients with solid tumours or haematologic malignancies were screened during routine care using the PTSS-8-Cancer scale. Socio-demographic, clinical and psychosocia

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) in young patients is often identified at later stages, which can result in poor prognosis. It is important to investigate the factors influencing care delays and how delays affect outcomes.
METHODS: This study included women aged ≤40 years at diagnosis of stage 0-IV BC in the Young Women's Breast Cancer Study enrolled between 2006 and 2016. Associations between patient and tumor factors and presentation delay (first symptom to provider visit, ≥90 days), diagnostic delay (presentation to diagnosis, ≥90 days), and treatment delay (diagnosis to treatment, ≥60 days)

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) diagnosed during pregnancy or postpartum often presents with aggressive features, potentially influenced by hormonal, immunological, and tissue remodeling changes. Studies have suggested that postpartum BC may be associated with worse outcomes, though most evidence is retrospective and constrained by methodological limitations. This study evaluated associations between pregnancy history, recency of childbirth, and long-term outcomes in a prospective cohort of young patients with early-stage BC.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients aged ≤40 years with stage I-III BC en

A 65-year-old woman with a 10-year history of right breast cancer underwent mastectomy and chemoradiotherapy. Five years later, left supraclavicular lymph node metastases prompted further chemoradiotherapy. She recently developed new right cervical lymph node metastases and left supraclavicular ulcer, referred for 99mTc-FAPI-46 imaging in a clinical trial. The whole body imaging demonstrated a focal uptake at the left thoracic inlet corresponded on CT to geographic osteolysis with irregular sclerotic margins at the medial end of the left clavicle, consistent with postradiotherapy osteonecrosis

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer has the highest incidence among Saudi women and is often diagnosed at a younger age with distinct genetic features. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and mutation of germline BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in Saudi women in Al-Madinah Province with breast cancer.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 54 Saudi females with a median age of 46.5 years (IQR 39.0 - 53.7 years). Genomic DNA from peripheral blood was screened using high-depth next-generation sequencing (NGS), which encompassed all coding exons and splice regions of BRCA1 and BRCA2. Variants wer

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) is a common complication after breast cancer surgery and can have lasting effects on physical function and quality of life. Prevention behaviors are an important component of BCRL risk reduction, yet patients do not necessarily engage in these behaviors in the same way. Previous studies have largely assessed adherence at the overall level, providing limited insight into differences in behavioral patterns among postoperative patients. A person-centered approach may therefore help identify distinct adherence profiles and provide a basis for tar

There are conflicting statements in the literature about the existence of Montgomery tubercles in the male areola. We wished to determine whether the male breast contains Montgomery tubercles and to determine additional pathology, if any, in the male areola. Serial sections from areola of paraffin blocks from six retrospective and five prospective cases of male breast carcinoma were evaluated. Only hematoxylin-stained and eosin-stained sections were studied. There were definite Montgomery tubercles in two cases and putative Montgomery tubercles in two other cases, among the 11 cases (age range

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women. Despite advances in treatment, some women still present at advanced stages of the disease. Although mammography screening can improve survival through early detection, there is ongoing debate regarding its benefits and potential harms. This study aimed to investigate the psychological consequences of breast cancer screening and the factors associated with them.
METHODS: This prospective cohort study was conducted in Iran and included 320 women aged 40-69 years who attended comprehensive health centers for gynecol

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious complication for breast cancer (BC) survivors. We identified records of female BC survivors from the Korean Health Insurance Service database between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2016. After applying exclusion criteria (age < 18 years, prior cancers or VTE, absence of BC surgery, or missing data), 112,522 BC survivors were included; for the comparison group, BC survivors were matched (1:3) to women without cancer history. VTE risk was evaluated with a Fine and Gray model, accounting for death as a competing risk; multiple time periods were analyze

BACKGROUND: National guidelines recommend English women between 30 and 49 years with moderate/high risk of breast cancer (BC) be offered screening and prevention interventions. Identification largely relies on family history-based criteria amongst women self-presenting in primary care. We aimed to understand the preference for different potential risk assessment strategies in this population.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey including a discrete choice experiment. Risk assessments were defined using six attributes, including initiation strategy, eligibility for a full/detailed risk assessme

BACKGROUND: The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that women at above-population-level risk of breast cancer (BC) are offered enhanced screening and risk-reducing interventions. Identification of these women largely relies on referral through primary care based on family history criteria.
METHODS: We compared the performance of the NICE criteria with versions of the BOADICEA multifactorial risk model in identifying women who developed BC within 10 years. Analyses included 1258 women aged under 50 years with family history, reproductive, lifestyle and polygeni

UNLABELLED: Trastuzumab Deruxtecan (T-DXd) is clinically beneficial in HER2-positive and HER2-low metastatic breast cancer. However, therapeutic resistance emerges over time in most patients, with poorly defined resistance mechanisms. Through a molecular characterization of paired patient specimens before and after T-DXd treatment, we found that 49% cases had major decreases in HER2 expression at progression, and among them, 52% exhibited complete HER2 loss. Using isogenic model systems, we demonstrated that decreases in HER2 expression corresponded to reductions in T-DXd internalization and m

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer and its treatments have a significant impact on patients' health-related quality of life (HRQL). The aim of this study was to compare HRQL in a long-term, cross-sectional assessment after breast conserving therapy (BCT) and mastectomy without reconstruction, using the BREAST-Q.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Altogether 500 patients who had undergone either mastectomy or BCT between 06/2016 and 8/2018 were approached. The postoperative HRQL was assessed using the BREAST-Q Breast Conserving Therapy and Mastectomy Modules.
RESULTS: A total of 171 (34%) women participated, 85 o
