Crossed acoustic reflexes were serially monitored in a patient receiving radiotherapy for an intra-axial brain stem tumor. Analysis revealed a pattern of systematic recovery as the brain stem lesion responded to therapy. Crossed reflexes were observed at more and more test frequencies, until responses were present on both ears for all test signals. Pure-tone sensitivity and speech intelligibility remained within the normal range throughout the observation period.

Visual acuity, color vision, pupillary reaction, induced Pulfrich phenomenon, kinetic fields, static fields, afterimage testing, and ophthalmoscopic evaluation were studied in nine patients with a history of retrobulbar neuritis. The most consistently reliable test for determining the presence of an old optic nerve defect in these patients was meridional 0 to 180 degrees static perimetry. There was a uniform decrease in brightness discrimination to either side of the foveal peak.

This is a study of the largest family with Fanconi's anemia known in the world literature, namely of 6 affected siblings. Fifty-nine cases of tuberculous meningitis in children seen at the Charity Hospital at New Orleans since the addition of isoniazid to the therapy in 1952 are reviewed. Fourteen of the children died during hopsitalization. At discharge 21 children had complete or nearly complete clinical recovery. An ear-nose-throat survey was carried out on 50 children aged 4 to 10 years with cystic fibrosis. 10% were shown to be transiently deaf, associated with eustachian tube dysfunction. There were no confirmed cases of secretory otitis media. 10 children (20%) were found to have nasal polyps or gave a history of polypectomy. Though a high incidence of middle ear problems in children with cystic fibrosis has been reported from the U.S.A., neither deafness nor secretory otitis media was found to be a problem in the group studied.
