Residential proximity to agricultural fields, urinary glyphosate levels and breast cancer risk: a case-control study in Argentina.

Despite accumulated evidence indicating glyphosate herbicide (GLY) presents endocrine disrupting properties, there are still discrepancies. Moreover, few epidemiological studies have focused on hormone-related pathologies. This work aimed to investigate the associations between urinary GLY levels and breast cancer (BC) in women from a region of intense agricultural activity in Argentina, exploring residential proximity to agricultural fields as a potential risk factor for BC. This was a case-control study that involved 90 women from different populations in the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina.

Genomic landscape of estrogen receptor-positive HER2-negative advanced breast cancer with acquired resistance to aromatase inhibitors: Identification of an ESR1 alteration-related gene signature.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of advanced estrogen receptor-positive HER-2-negative breast cancer is based on hormonal therapy with aromatase inhibitors for postmenopausal women. However, acquired endocrine resistance is unavoidable at some point in the advanced or metastatic stage, and its underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be fully elucidated. The study prospectively included patients with advanced or metastatic breast cancer who had relapsed or progressed following treatment with a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI) and were treated with exemestane (a steroidal AI) and everolimus. The ob

The Potential of Matrine in the Treatment of Breast Cancer: A Review.

Breast cancer ranks as the fifth-most-prevalent malignancy worldwide, characterized by high heterogeneity and multifactorial etiology across molecular subtypes. Despite advancements in conventional therapies, including surgery and chemotherapy, persistent challenges such as treatment-related adverse effects and acquired drug resistance necessitate alternative therapeutic strategies. Matrine, a naturally occurring alkaloid derived from Sophora flavescens, has demonstrated significant anticancer potential through multiple mechanisms. Experimental evidence indicates that matrine exerts inhibitory

Intercellular communication between extracellular vesicles from conditioned macrophages and breast cancer cells drives endocrine therapy resistance.

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among women, with nearly 70% of cases being estrogen receptor-positive (ER+). While endocrine therapies, such as tamoxifen, have significantly improved patient outcomes, resistance-whether intrinsic or acquired-remains a major clinical challenge that limits treatment efficacy. Emerging evidence suggests that endocrine resistance is often driven by the presence and expansion of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which contribute to recurrence, metastasis, and therapeutic failure. The tumor microenvironment (TME), including immune

SIAH2-AS1 stimulates breast cancer cell proliferation and migration via the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Breast cancer (BC) has become a severe threat to women, which has imposed excessive pressure on society. LncRNAs play a crucial role in the occurrence and development of BC. This study aimed to evaluate the lncRNA SIAH2 antisense RNA 1 (SIAH2-AS1) role in the development and progression of BC and explore the mechanism of SIAH2-AS1 related Wnt signaling pathway in BC. Malignant and paracancer normal breast tissue samples were obtained from patients who underwent surgery at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University. Subsequently, quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) was performed with

Decoding estrogen receptor and GPER biology: structural insights and therapeutic advances in ERα-positive breast cancer.

Classical estrogen receptors, ERα and ERβ, along with the membrane-bound G-protein-coupled estrogen receptor (GPER), play critical roles in driving ERα-positive breast cancer (BC). Clinical management of this subtype relies on endocrine therapy (ET), which targets ER signaling through selective estrogen receptors modulators (SERMs), degraders (SERDs), and aromatase inhibitors (AIs). While ET has significantly reduced recurrence and mortality rates, acquired resistance remains a major therapeutic challenge. Activating ESR1 mutations, which encode constitutively active ERα variants, are detected

Optimization of the Non-Local Means Algorithm for Breast Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging Using a 3D-Printed Breast-Mimicking Phantom.

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance (DWMR) images were acquired using a custom-designed, 3D-printed breast-mimicking phantom. The smoothing factor of the non-local means (NLM) algorithm was then optimized for noise reduction. Phantoms were fabricated using polylactic acid, polyethylene terephthalate, and various concentrations of polyvinylpyrrolidone. DWMR images were obtained across b-values ranging from zero to 2000 s/mm2. Based on image contrast, the NLM algorithm was applied to the b = 1000 s/mm2 image, testing smoothing factors from 0.001 to 0.150. The NLM algorithm's performance was qu

Integrating molecular targeting and immune modulation in triple-negative breast cancer: from mechanistic insights to therapeutic innovation.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains a clinically aggressive subtype of breast cancer, defined by the absence of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2 amplification, and disproportionately affecting younger and racially diverse populations. Despite conventional chemotherapy, TNBC patients often face poor prognoses due to the lack of actionable molecular targets and early metastatic potential. Advances in molecular profiling have unveiled distinct TNBC subtypes and actionable vulnerabilities, including BRCA1/2 mutations and PI3K/AKT/mTOR dysregulation. Therapies targeting D

Fc-mediated immune stimulating, pro-inflammatory and antitumor effects of anti-HER2 IgE against HER2-expressing and trastuzumab-resistant tumors.

BACKGROUND: Anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) IgG1-based antibody therapies significantly improve cancer prognosis, yet intrinsic or acquired resistance to fragment antigen-binding (Fab)-mediated direct effects commonly occurs. Most resistant tumors retain antigen expression and therefore remain potentially targetable with anti-HER2 therapies that promote immune-mediated responses. Tumor-antigen-specific IgE class antibodies can mediate powerful immune cell-mediated effects against different cancers and have been shown to activate IgE Fc receptor-expressing monocytes. We pre

Mitigating perioperative pressure injuries in microsurgical breast reconstruction.

Pressure injuries (PI) that develop in the operating room (OR) account for just under half of all hospital acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) and contribute significantly to the high cost and patient morbidity of HAPI. Microvascular autologous breast reconstruction poses specific risks to PI development in patients and should be addressed by the reconstructive microsurgeon. Standard risk factors for perioperative PI include patient immobility, absent pain perception, and challenges to maintaining normal body temperature while under general anesthesia for surgery. Specific intraoperative risk fa
