A limited degree of effectiveness of antilymphoid globulin in clinical kidney and bone marrow transplantation has been described. It may also be useful for the prolongation of temporary skin allografts for burn patients and may be valuable as an adjunct in the treatment of certain autoimmune diseases. Twenty-five dogs with malignant lymphoma (L) and 18 dogs with solid, nonhematologic tumors (ST) were treated with 1200 R total body irradiation (TBI). Rescue from the otherwise lethal hemopoietic toxicity by infusion of autologous marrow aspirated before TBI was attempted, and survival, response to TBI, and immune reactivity post-grafting were determined. The physiologic function of human parathyroid autografts and allografts has not been demonstrated conclusively. During the past 30 months, we have transplanted parathyroid glands in 29 patients and tested their functional status. Surveys of various community groups reveals changes in attitudes regarding human tissue donation from 1969 to the present. An overall donor ratio of 67% in 1969 is compared to a donor volunteer ratio of 78% in 1974.
