The Effect of the Coronal Alignment of Extension Stem on Component Displacement and Stress During Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Finite Element Study.

OBJECTIVE: The biomechanical interaction between coronal alignment and short extension stem use in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) remains insufficiently understood, particularly regarding the balance between tibial component stability and stress shielding. This study aims to investigate the effects of varying bone cut angles on the tibial side and the use of a short extension stem on tibial component displacement and stress distribution. Additionally, it will examine the stresses experienced by both cortical and cancellous bone during primary TKA, employing three-dimensional finite element anal

Two surgical stabilization strategies for irreducible proximal tibiofibular joint dislocations: case report.

Proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) dislocation is a rare and frequently underdiagnosed injury that may occur following both sports-related trauma and high-energy mechanisms. Irreducible dislocations represent a particular challenge because they often reflect complex injury patterns requiring surgical management. We report two cases of irreducible PTFJ dislocation with distinct displacement patterns: an anterolateral dislocation following a sports injury and a posteromedial dislocation associated with high-energy trauma and common fibular nerve palsy. In both cases, closed reduction was unsucce

Distally centered osteotomies, but not joint inspection, are associated with increased radiographic patellar tendon thickness at short-term follow-up after tibial plateau leveling osteotomy in dogs.

OBJECTIVE: To radiographically evaluate patellar tendon thickness (PTT) following tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) performed with or without joint inspection, and to assess the effect of osteotomy positioning (distally centered osteotomy [DCO] vs ideally centered osteotomy [ICO]) on PTT. METHODS: Medical records of client-owned dogs following TPLO between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023, were reviewed retrospectively. Joint intervention was categorized as mini medial arthrotomy (MA) or no arthrotomy (NA). Patellar tendon thickness was measured radiographically preoperatively, p

Reconsidering uniform treatment: magnetic resonance imaging-based insights into the multiform pathophysiology of sprained ankles.

INTRODUCTION: Ankle sprains are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries, yet their clinical complexity is often underestimated. The relationship between ankle sprains and bone bruises in both the ankle joint and midfoot remains underexplored. At our institution, patients with moderate to severe ankle sprains routinely undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and receive conservative treatment with a short leg posterior cast splint. This study specifically focused on bone involvement assessed by MRI, rather than soft tissue or functional parameters. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed

Multifaceted effects of Salvia hispanica oil and Lactobacillus farciminis on quail physiology.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated the effects of Lactobacillus farciminis and Salvia hispanica oil, alone or in combination, on growth performance, antioxidant status, cecal short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) profiles, and bone biomechanical properties in Japanese quails. These natural antibiotic alternatives were selected because L. farciminis supports the intestinal barrier, while chia oil-rich in omega-3s and phenolic compounds-modulates antioxidant defense and mineral bioavailability. METHODS: A total of 216 one-day-old Coturnix coturnix japonica chicks were randomly assigned to four groups: co

Endocrine Phenotypes and Hormonal Treatment in Meier-Gorlin Syndrome: Report of Two Cases and a Systematic Review of Literature.

BACKGROUND: Meier-Gorlin-syndrome (MGORS) is a rare cause of primordial dwarfism stemming from pathogenic variants in genes involved in DNA replication. The classic clinical triad is microtia, absent patella and short stature. MGORS can mimic endocrine causes of short stature or delayed/atypical pubertal development. METHODS: We report two new cases of MGORS. A systematic literature search of all cases published up to 31 March 2026 was done to identify the cases reporting any endocrinopathy or hormonal therapy, focussing on growth-hormone-deficiency (GHD) and response to growth hormone (GH).

Arthroscopic Primary Repair and Suture Augmentation for Combined Acute Femoral and Tibial Attachment Avulsion of Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

OBJECTIVE: Combined acute femoral- and tibial-side avulsion injuries of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) are rare and present a distinct surgical challenge because both attachment sites require restoration while preserving the native ligament tissue. This study aimed to describe an arthroscopic ACL primary repair (ACLPR) technique with suture augmentation for the treatment of rare combined acute femoral- and tibial-side ACL avulsion injuries and to present its short-term clinical outcome. METHODS: A 21-year-old male patient sustained a twisting injury to his right knee while landing durin

Sagittal Plate Position and Posterior Tibial Slope Changes After Medial Open-Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy.

Medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is a well-established joint-preserving procedure for medial compartment osteoarthritis with varus malalignment. However, unintended changes in posterior tibial slope (PTS) may occur and affect knee biomechanics and cruciate ligament loading. This retrospective cohort study included 60 patients who underwent medial open-wedge HTO between 2018 and 2024. We investigated whether sagittal plate position on postoperative lateral radiographs (anterior vs posterior) influenced postoperative PTS change and its association with coronal alignment and short-te

Patient-specific three-dimensional (3-D) cutting guides and custom plates in the management of tibia and femur malunion - an update.

Malunion of the lower limb long bones is a significant complication following the operative and nonoperative management of fractures. Malunion can manifest as a simple uniplanar deformity or a complex multiplanar deformity, including angular, rotational, translational, and length discrepancies. The current gold standard is osteotomy correction. After thorough clinical assessment of deformity including rotational alignment, the deformity is further assessed using two-dimensional(2D) radiographs and computer-aided tomography (CT) scans reserved for intra-articular deformities. During surgery flu

Short-course systemic salidroside increases week-4 tibial implant fixation strength in healthy female mice: A proof-of-concept study.

BackgroundRapid early osseointegration is essential for cementless fixation, yet this postoperative window is vulnerable in metaphyseal cancellous bone exposed to surgical injury and early loading. Salidroside, a bioactive glycoside derived from Rhodiola species, has reported osteogenic and angiogenic activity, but its value as a short-course systemic perioperative adjuvant for implant fixation remains unclear.MethodsThirty-eight healthy 15-week-old female C57BL/6 mice underwent unilateral press-fit titanium implant insertion into the proximal tibia and were then randomized to intraperitoneal
