BACKGROUND: Subungual melanoma is an unpredictable and aggressive tumor with a propensity to metastasize widely. Because it is an uncommon condition, statistical analysis of its behavior patterns is difficult, factors that determine its prognosis are unclear, and optimal management is ill defined.
