Hereditary gastrointestinal polyposis syndromes can be divided into adenomatous and hamartomatous types. Familial adenomatous polyposis coli (FAPC) is the prototype adenomatous polyposis syndrome and is defined by the autosomal dominant transmission of multiple (more than 100) colorectal adenomas. Virtually all affected patients develop colorectal carcinoma if untreated. Hypersensitivity to fleas was induced in flea-naive dogs by controlled challenge exposure to virgin fleas. By week 10 of the investigation, immediate (15 minute) and delayed (24-48 hours) responses could be elicited in the skin by flea bites. The circulating levels of hyaluronate were determined in 36 patients with scleroderma and in 36 control subjects matched for age and sex. Mouse myeloma cells were fused with spleen cells from BALB/c mice immunized with the MCF-7 human mammary carcinoma cell line. Among hybridomas, two (3B18 and 15A8) were selected and cloned. The utility of transcutaneous oxygen tension measurements in selection of a reliable amputation level was evaluated. Measurements were made at the proposed level of amputation in 37 patients, 22 of whom underwent major limb amputation and in 15 amputation was confined to the forefoot or toes. A series of about 2200 children who received X-ray treatment for ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis) during the 1940s and 1950s, and a comparable group of 1400 treated without X ray, have been followed by mail questionnaire for an average of 26 years since treatment to tabulate the incidence of skin cancer. One hundred and eighty patients with psoriasis have been studied in the Neapolitan area to find the prevalence of arthritis in psoriasis. Wright and Moll's criteria for the diagnosis of arthritis were applied. Systolic blood pressures were measured at the ankle by Doppler ultrasound sphygmomanometry in a series of elderly patients. We examined by light and electron microscopy 99 vascular lesions removed on 17 occasions over a 2-year period from a 55-year-old black man. The lesions all showed histologic features of a vascular neoplasm composed of enlarged "histiocytoid" endothelial cells and overlapping features of angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia and Kaposi's sarcoma. An apparently unique feature was early loss of melanin from the overlying epidermis and a mononuclear inflammatory-cell infiltrate.
