BACKGROUND: Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) are a family of polysaccharides found abundantly in the extracellular matrix (ECM) of tissues. Research has indicated that the dysregulation of ECM, including changes and disruptions in GAGs, contributes to various cancer hallmarks such as metabolic reprogramming, persistent growth signals, immunosuppression, angiogenesis, tumor invasion, and metastasis.
OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aims to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of GAGs, including heparan sulfate (HS), chondroitin sulfate (CS), and hyaluronic acid (HA), in early detection of cancer.

Well-differentiated papillary mesothelioma (WDPM) is an uncommon mesothelial tumor that occurs in the peritoneum of women over a wide age range. Although considered a tumor of uncertain malignant potential, information about its biological behavior is still limited. To confirm the risk of chest wall tract metastases following chest wall intervention for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM), we reviewed our institutional experience. Between 2006 and 2010, 14 patients with MPM underwent chest wall intervention for diagnosis in Kyoto University Hospital. METHODS: We extracted data on mesothelioma deaths reported to the World Health Organization mortality database since 1994, when the disease was first recorded.
