AIMS: This study describes the generation of a monoclonal antibody designated SM047 which binds to an epitope that is displayed by a multivalent antigen associated with the glycocalyx of ovarian adenocarcinoma cells. The study also investigates SM047 staining in adenocarcinomas of diverse sites in order to determine whether the antibody is specific for ovarian adenocarcinoma and of value in the confirmation of an ovarian origin when the site of primary tumour is unknown.

A case-control study on respiratory cancers was conducted in New Caledonia (South Pacific), where a high incidence of malignant pleural mesothelioma had been observed. We report of a solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the vagina and discuss the differential diagnosis. This is the first SFT documented, to our knowledge. SFTs should be included in the differential diagnosis of fibroblastic, myofibroblastic, and neural lesions of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and mucosa and can be distinguished from other spindle cell neoplasms at those sites.

Comparative genomic hybridization analysis was performed to identify chromosomal imbalances in 24 human malignant mesothelioma (MM) cell lines derived from untreated primary tumors. Malignant mesothelioma is one of the very few extrarenal neoplasms in which the Wilms tumor suppressor gene (wt1) is expressed. We examined wt1 for alterations in rat mesotheliomas, a well characterized animal model for the human disease. Southern analysis revealed a 3.5 kb EcoRI wt1 fragment readily detectable in majority of mesothelioma cell lines and primary mesotheliomas but not in normal rat tissues. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the relation between the pathological changes and the prognosis of cardiac tumors through the clinicopathological study on 41 cases of cardiac tumors.
METHODS: The study was carried out by using the common and special histochemical stainings.
