COVID vaccination and post-infection cancer signals: Evaluating patterns and potential biological mechanisms.

A growing number of peer-reviewed publications have reported diverse cancer types appearing in temporal association with COVID-19 vaccination or infection. To characterize the nature and scope of these reports, a systematic literature search from January 2020 to October 2025 was conducted based on specified eligibility criteria. A total of 69 publications met inclusion criteria: 66 article-level reports describing 333 patients across 27 countries, 2 retrospective population-level investigations (Italy: ~300,000 cohort, and Korea: ~8.4 million cohort) quantified cancer incidence and mortality t

A rare case of gastroduodenal junction Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma in a cat: pathological findings and follow-up.

Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm predominantly affecting pediatric human patients and has rarely been reported in veterinary medicine. We described the clinicopathological features of an uncommon gastroduodenal junction KHE in a 2-year-old male cat presented with a history of intermittent vomiting, acutely worsening over 48 h. Imaging and endoscopic evaluation revealed complete pyloric obstruction caused by an infiltrative mass with enlarged regional lymph nodes, which were surgically excised and examined histologically and immunohistochemically. Specimens were

Kaposi Sarcoma as a Cause of Anemia in Kidney Transplant Recipients: Two Case Reports.

INTRODUCTION: Kaposi Sarcoma (KS), caused by human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8), may be observed in transplant recipients in the form of immunosuppression-related KS. While it primarily affects the skin, it can also involve internal organs, particularly the gastrointestinal (GI) system. GI involvement is often asymptomatic, but bleeding episodes may occur. Post-transplant anemia (PTA) is a common complication associated with increased mortality and decreased renal function. Early diagnosis and management are crucial. This report discusses 2 cases of KS in kidney transplant recipients presenting with

Are Corticosteroids Truly Contraindicated in Pulmonary Kaposi Sarcoma?

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is an angioproliferative disorder associated with human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8) infection. It has both cutaneous and extracutaneous manifestations. With extracutaneous manifestations, it most commonly involves the oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, and regional lymph nodes. Visceral organ involvement other than the gastrointestinal tract, such as the liver, lungs, and bones, is extremely rare. Here, we would like to discuss a patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) found to have pulmonary KS manifesting as acute hypoxem

Ultrasound-guided lymph node biopsies: feasible and safe use of pathology services in a resource-limited, high TB/HIV prevalence setting.

BACKGROUND: Enlarged lymph nodes (LN) pose diagnostic challenges for people with HIV (PWH). While tuberculosis (TB) is a common cause in low-income settings, lymphomas and Kaposi's sarcoma must also be considered. Ultrasound and symptoms cannot distinguish between these conditions, and histology is often needed, but limited resources in low-income countries restrict sampling. To minimize the need for excisional biopsies, we introduced an algorithm for ultrasound-guided core-needle biopsies (CNB) after negative fine-needle aspiration (FNA) results by Xpert-Ultra (Cepheid, USA). METHODS: At the

Gastroduodenal Kaposi Sarcoma Without Cutaneous Lesions in an Immunosuppressed Patient.

Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is an angioproliferative neoplasm that develops as a result of infection with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8). The disease most commonly appears as painless, nonpruritic, violaceous papules, plaques, or nodules on the skin, but it can also affect lymph nodes, mucosal surfaces, and internal organs. A 53-year-old man from Guinea-Bissau with membranous nephropathy who was being treated with prednisolone and cyclophosphamide presented with abdominal pain, early satiety, anorexia, and fever. His symptoms emerged while he was taking antibiotics for a recent respiratory tract infectio

Extracavitary Primary Effusion Lymphoma: Diagnostic Challenges and Differential Diagnosis in a Resource-Constrained South African Setting.

AimsPrimary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is an aggressive, human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8)-associated large B-cell lymphoma characterised by malignant effusions in serous cavities (classic PEL). However, a subset of tumours may present exclusively as solid masses, referred to as extracavitary primary effusion lymphoma (EC-PEL). Despite the high regional prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Kaposi sarcoma-associated virus /HHV8, PEL is likely under-reported in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study reports on the clinicopathologic features and differential diagnoses of EC-PEL.MethodsA retrospecti

Human immunodeficiency virus negative, immunocompetent primary effusion lymphoma with a complete response on R-miniCHOP.

Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is a rare kind of extranodal non-Hodgkin large B-cell lymphoma that develops in the liquid phase in serous membrane-lined body cavities (perineum, pericardium, and pleura) without tumor masses. Kaposi sarcoma-associated human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) is essential in establishing a diagnosis of PEL. An 84-year-old male with a past medical history of testicular cancer in his 40s presented with a chief complaint of shortness of breath which was attributed to a left pleural effusion. Intranodal Hemangioma as a Differential Diagnosis of Melanoma Metastasis: A Case Report of a Rare Entity.

Dear editor, Haemangiomas are common benign vascular tumours usually detected on skin, mucosal surfaces, and soft tissues. In some extremely rare cases, haemangiomas can occur within a lymph node and as such are classified as primary benign vascular tumours of the lymph nodes, along with lymphangiomas, haemangioendotheliomas, and angiomyomatous hamartomas (1-2). A study reported that the overall prevalence of benign primary vascular intranodal tumours is only 0.3% (3). Even though intranodal haemangiomas are benign and usually asymptomatic, in clinical practice it is often challenging to diffe

Kaposi sarcoma in an HIV-infected patient with high CD4 count: a case report and literature review.

Kaposi sarcoma is a tumor commonly associated with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection and is more prevalent in individuals with immunosuppression, such as those with HIV/AIDS, organ transplant recipients, or other conditions causing immune dysfunction. It typically presents as purple patches or nodules commonly affecting the skin or mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, and can spread to the lymph nodes and lungs. This case report describes an 18-year-old male with vertical HIV infection, managed on a regimen of dolutegravir/lamivudine/tenofovir (DTG/3TC/TDF), and with a recent CD4

Non-Invasive Diagnostic Imaging in Kaposi Sarcoma Evaluation.

Background and Clinical Significance: Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a rare angio-proliferative mesenchymal tumor that predominantly affects the skin and mucous membranes but may involve lymph nodes and visceral organs. Clinically, it manifests as red-purple-brown papules, nodules, or plaques, either painless or painful, often with disfiguring potential. The diagnosis is traditionally based on clinical and histopathological evaluation, although non-invasive imaging techniques are increasingly used to support diagnosis and treatment monitoring. We report a case of HHV-8-negative Kaposi sarcoma evaluate

Exploring the impact of ADIPOQ gene variants on plasma adiponectin levels and oxidative stress in type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy in South Indian population: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Warfarin is commonly involved in drug-related hospital admissions. The drug is most commonly prescribed to elderly patients in whom polypharmacy is common and, when administered in combination with other drugs such as NSAIDs, aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) or macrolide antibacterials, is associated with increased bleeding risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of prescriptions that might give rise to clinically relevant drug-drug interactions in a warfarinized population. METHODS: Primary care prescribing of warfarin and potentially interacting

From Castleman disease histopathological features to idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease: a multiparametric approach to exclude potential iMCD histopathological mimickers.

AIMS: International consensus diagnostic criteria for idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (iMCD) includes lymph node Castleman disease (CD) histopathological features as major criteria. Our aim was to apply those criteria in a series of 42 cases with CD to find differences among unicentric CD, iMCD, HHV-8+multicentric CD (HHV-8+MCD) and POEMS/plasma cell neoplasia (PCN)-associated CD. METHODS: Available clinical and laboratory criteria were collected. Single-Cell Transcriptomic Analysis of Kaposi Sarcoma.

UNLABELLED: Kaposi Sarcoma (KS) is a complex tumor caused by KS-associated herpesvirus 8 (KSHV). Histological analysis reveals a mixture of "spindle cells", vascular-like spaces, extravasated erythrocytes, and immune cells. In order to elucidate the infected and uninfected cell types in KS tumors, we examined skin and blood samples from twelve subjects by single cell RNA sequence analyses. Two populations of KSHV-infected cells were identified, one of which represented a proliferative fraction of lymphatic endothelial cells, and the second represented an angiogenic population of vascular endot

The Role of Oncogenic Viruses in Head and Neck Cancers: Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Advancements in Detection Methods.

Head and neck cancers (HNCs) constitute a wide range of malignancies originating from the epithelial lining of the upper aerodigestive tract, including the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, and salivary glands. Although lymphomas affecting this region are not conventionally classified as HNCs, they may occur in lymph nodes or mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues within the head and neck. Oncogenic viruses play a crucial role in HNC onset. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is extensively studied for its association with oropharyngeal cancers; nevertheless, other oncogenic vi
