Well-Differentiated Extraosseous Chondrosarcoma Arising of Gall Bladder: A Detailed Case Report.

This article reports a rare case of extraosseous myxoid chondrosarcoma originating from the gallbladder. The patient, a 50-year-old female, presented with recurrent right upper quadrant abdominal pain for over two months, with worsening symptoms in the month prior to admission. Before hospitalization, enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the upper abdomen performed at a local hospital suggested a malignant gallbladder tumor (gallbladder cancer) with lymphadenopathy near the hepatic portal, as well as chronic cholecystitis with gallstones. Upon admission, whole-abdomen enhanced CT and liver-enh

Retroperitoneal cysts with congential, ipsilateral renal agenesis of left kidney: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Unilateral renal agenesis is defined as the congenital absence of renal tissue of one side that results from a lack of induction of the metanephric blastema by the ureteral bud. Primary retroperitoneal cysts lying in the retroperitoneal fatty tissue have no apparent connections with any anatomical structure except by loose areolar tissue and are rare. They remain asymptomatic and are diagnosed incidentally. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28-year female presented with complain of epigastric pain for 2 years. On examination, abdomen was soft and non-tender without any palpabl

Mature retroperitoneal cystic teratoma in an adult alpaca: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Retroperitoneal mature cystic teratomas are rare in both human and veterinary medicine. These tumors arise from pluripotent germ cells and can contain tissues from all three germ layers. While the majority of teratomas are benign, their location in the retroperitoneum can lead to significant mass effects and clinical complications. CASE PRESENTATION: A four-year-old female alpaca was presented with a history of abdominal distension. Clinical signs included tenesmus with lifted tail, reduced fecal output and hypothermia. Initial ultrasound revealed severe accumulation of anechoic fl

Inflammatory Myofibroblastic Tumor of the Tongue: A Rare Case in a Pediatric Patient.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rare neoplasms with intermediate biological potential, most often found in the abdominal cavity of children and young adults. Oral IMTs are extremely rare, presenting diagnostic challenges due to non-specific clinical features and a wide range of differential diagnoses. A 13-year-old female presented with an asymptomatic nodule on the dorsal tongue. Surgical excision was performed. Histopathological analysis, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization identified spindle-shaped myofibroblastic cells, an inflammatory infiltrate, low proliferati

Decidual Cell Reaction and Endometritis in a Guinea Pig.

A female, research-naive, strain 13 guinea pig with no previous significant health history was noted to have a persistent vaginal discharge. On physical examination a soft mass was noted in the lower abdomen accompanied by a serosanguineous vaginal discharge. Due to a poor prognosis, the animal was euthanized. At necropsy, the left uterine horn was markedly enlarged and contained a large amorphous mass. Light microscopy examination showed that the mass had dense areas containing stromal cells surrounded by connective tissue, congested blood vessels, areas of necrosis, hemorrhage, and occasiona

Epidemiology, clinical manifestation, diagnosis, and treatment of bursitis iliopectinea: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Bursitis iliopectinea (BI) is a condition that is characterized by swelling of the iliopsoas bursa, leading to compression of inguinal neurovascular structures, causing swelling, pain, paresthesia, or thrombosis of the leg. QUESTIONS: Due to the rare occurrence of BI, the available literature consists of case reports. Our study aims to systematically review the literature for a comprehensive analysis of the etiology, treatment modalities, and clinical outcomes of patients with BI. METHODS: We systematically analyzed 217 studies with 502 cases of BI and extracted information about

Management and outcomes of thoracic sarcomas - a collaboration between Orthopaedic Oncology and cardiothoracic surgery: seven-year clinical data from a tertiary referral centre.

INTRODUCTION: Sarcomas are rare cancers originating from mesenchymal tissues, manifesting in diverse anatomical locations, but notably in connective tissue, muscles and the skeleton. Thoracic sarcomas present a unique diagnostic and surgical challenge attributable to their rarity and pathoanatomy. Standard practice currently comprises wide surgical excision, often accompanied by adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. This approach necessitates a multidisciplinary team, ideally in specialised cancer centres. The Oxford Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service is one such centre, and routinely tr

Gastropleurocutaneous fistula secondary to cement prosthesis migration: A rare late complication of chest wall sarcoma reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Gastropleurocutaneous fistula (GPCF) is a rare, potentially life-threatening condition defined by an abnormal connection between the stomach and the pleural cavity with an accompanying cutaneous tract. It is distinct from a gastropleural fistula, which lacks an external cutaneous extension. To our knowledge, no prior reports have described GPCF caused by migration and erosion of a cement chest-wall prosthesis. CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 40-year-old female with a history of anterior chest wall sarcoma resection and cement prosthesis reconstruction performed 23 year

Orthopedic surgical treatment of osteomalacia induced by culprit soft tissue tumor in the hip region: a single-center retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Due to its occult position, complex anatomical structure, and spatial relationships, the causative tumor of Tumor-Induced Osteomalacia (TIO) in the hip region is quite difficult to detect and qualitatively diagnose in clinical practice. In this regard, clinicians often lack sufficient knowledge about such tumors, leading to frequent missed diagnoses, misdiagnoses, and unreasonable treatment. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of TIO patients with culprit soft tissue tumors in the hip region and evaluate the effect of surgical treatment on these

Evaluating the consistency of SMARCB1 variant classification and assertions of genotype-phenotype relationships in ClinVar.

Pathogenic SMARCB1 variants are associated with multiple Mendelian syndromes: Schwannomatosis (SM), Rhabdoid Tumour Predisposition Syndrome (RTPS1), and/or Coffin-Siris Syndrome (CSS). Although some data suggests genotype/phenotype relationships based on mutation type and location, this is not used consistently potentially due to inconsistent or absent phenotypic data. We used ClinVar, the largest public platform of variant classifications, to evaluate variant-specific data from clinical laboratories and cited publications to assess reporting consistency and genotype-phenotype relationships. Arthroscopic shoulder instability surgery in patients under 25 years of age: the key role of soft tissue with both anterior and posterior axillary hammock tensioning.

BACKGROUND: The arthroscopic treatment of shoulder instability is widely debated in the literature and includes very different surgical techniques. Imaging techniques do not allow an accurate assessment of soft tissue quality. The aim of the study is to demonstrate that correct patient selection and a surgical technique involving anterior and posterior capsular ligament repair with axillary retention may be the most crucial factors for successful arthroscopic treatment. METHODS: Patients with recurrent shoulder instability who underwent arthroscopic stabilization between 2014 and 2015 and age

Prognostic Factors for Refractory Outcome in Localizing TIO: Experience in a Tertiary Center.

CONTEXT: Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO), a paraneoplastic disorder characterized by renal phosphate wasting, is cured by surgical removal of the culprit tumor. Despite correct localization, some remain refractory to intervention, resulting in substantial long-term medical complications. OBJECTIVE: We aim to identify risk factors associated with a refractory outcome. METHODS: This is a retrospective cohort of 44 patients with TIO diagnosed from 1998 to 2023 who underwent targeted intervention following successfully localization. Cure was defined as maintenance of normophosphatemia without s

Lipomatous hypertrophy of cardiac interatrial septum: A case report.

RATIONALE: Lipomatous hypertrophy (LH) of the cardiac interatrial septum is a rare benign lesion of the heart, usually described as a nonencapsulated mass arising from the atrial septum, with common symptoms, such as atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and syncope. It is very important to detect LH as early as possible; however, this can be difficult due to the rarity of the condition. PATIENT CONCERNS: Here, we report the unique case of a 60-year-old-man who was found to be unconscious in his car by a paramedic. The patient was declared dead after a preliminary diagnosis of un

Movements of the pelvic bones of expectant mothers during vaginal delivery.

Subtle but demonstrable movements in the expectant mother's pelvis occur during vaginal delivery in all the pelvic joints and anatomical planes of the body (sagittal, frontal, and transverse). The purpose of these movements is to gradually expand the space in the lesser pelvis via widening of the individual pelvic planes so that the newborn's head can enter the pelvic inlet, safely pass through the narrow planes of the pelvis, and through the pelvic outlet. From the point of view of biomechanics, these movements are described in literature as counternutation and nutation of the sacrum and ilia

First Evidence of Cutaneous Remodelling Induced by Synchronized Radiofrequency Aided by High-Intensity Facial Muscle Stimulation: Porcine Animal Model.

BACKGROUND: The quality of one's facial appearance diminishes with aging as skin and underlying soft tissues deteriorate. Connective tissue and musculofascial degeneration leads to skin laxity and wrinkles developing. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of synchronized radiofrequency with high intensity facial stimulation technology on dermal collagen and elastin fibers in a porcine model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight sows were divided into Active (N = 6) and Control (N = 2) groups. Synchronized radiofrequency and high intensity facial stimulation were delivered to the ventrolateral abdomen.

[Recurrence of a Desmoid Tumour in a Scar at the Donor Site of a Latissimus Dorsi Flap].

A desmoid tumour, also known as aggressive fibrous tumour or desmoid fibromatosis, is a rare, benign tumour originating from connective tissue cells. Desmoid tumours account for approximately 0.03+% of all neoplasms and less than 3+% of all soft tissue tumours. The estimated incidence in the general population is 2 to 4 cases per million people per year [1]. Desmoid tumours are characterised by aggressive growth but typically do not metastasize. They often occur in young adults and preferably affect specific body regions such as the abdomen, shoulder, chest, or extremities. The exact cause of
