Juvenile papillomatosis (JP), also termed Swiss cheese disease, is a rare and benign type of proliferative breast tumor that is specifically observed in children and adolescents. The majority of JP patients are Caucasian and exhibit a single breast mass. The current report presents an unusual case of bifocal JP in an 11-year-old Chinese female. The patient presented with a slow-growing palpable mass in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. Ultrasonography identified a further impalpable lesion in the lower outer quadrant of the ipsilateral breast. The preoperative clinical diagnosis of

A 43 -year-old woman with a palpable mass in the right breast consulted a neighborhood doctor. She was diagnosed with right breast cancer after core needle biopsy, and she was referred to our hospital. Mammography revealed an indistinct mass with calcification in the lower outer quadrant of the right breast. Ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic mass with a high echo spot. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a high intensity tumor with peripheral enhancement. The patient underwent mastectomy with sentinel lymph node(SN) biopsy and axillary lymph node dissection. Histologically, the tumor

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of primary tumor location on the survival of Chinese women with T1-2N0M0 breast cancer.
METHODS: The clinical data of 1044 patients with stage T1-2N0M0 breast cancer who were treated from 1999 to 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided according to the primary tumor location: upper-outer quadrant (UOQ), upper-inner quadrant (UIQ), lower-outer quadrant (LOQ), lower-inner quadrant (LIQ), and nipple and central breast (central). The effect of primary tumor location on recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall

INTRODUCTION: Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy in Scottish women, and its incidence appears to be increasing with time. It is therefore important to identify factors associated with risk and outcome. Whilst breast cancer occurs equally in the right and left breasts, tumours most commonly affect the upper outer quadrant (UOQ) of the breast. However, there is only limited information as to whether the incidence has changed over time.
MATERIALS AND PATIENTS: We investigated two cohorts of women diagnosed with breast cancer in the south-east of Scotland between either 1957-1959

BACKGROUND: Reduced overall survival has been observed in patients with left-sided versus right-sided breast cancer due to cardiac toxicity after radiotherapy. However, the effect of laterality and primary tumor site on breast cancer-specific mortality (BCSM) remains unclear.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We analyzed data from 305,443 women ages 20- to 79-years-old diagnosed with breast cancer between 1990 and 2009. The data were obtained from the population-based Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program of the U.S. National Cancer Institute. The survival outcomes with regard to lat

INTRODUCTION: This paper presents two cases of very rare tumors of breast: breast sebaceos carcinoma, which has rarely been described in medical literature, and breast carcinosarcoma. Morphological characteristics and biological behavior of sebaceos carcinoma are still rather vague. Carcinosarcoma of the breast is a rare malignancy with distinct cell lines described as a breast carcinoma of ductal type with a sarcoma-like component.
CASE REPORT: The first presented case is a 73-year-old female referred to our hospital in January 2008 with tumor of the right breast in the upper outer region of

INTRODUCTION: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the breast is a rare neoplasm accounting for 0.1% of breast carcinomas.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 30 year old female patient presented with multiple lumps in the right breast. Excision biopsy of a lump in the lower outer quadrant revealed adenoid cystic carcinoma. A right sided modified radical mastectomy (MRM) was performed, with axillary clearance. Histopathology revealed a fibroadenoma accounting for one mass and adenoid cystic carcinoma in another, confirmed on Periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining. Three out of the eight excised axillary lymph

BACKGROUND: Residual breast tissue after a mastectomy can lead to a (second) primary breast cancer. The development of breast cancer after prophylactic mastectomy and the finding of normal breast tissue around a local recurrence support this assumption. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence and localization of residual breast tissue after a mastectomy.
METHODS: A series of 206 women who underwent a mastectomy between January 2008 and August 2009 in 11 hospitals were enrolled onto this study after written informed consent was obtained. From each mastectomy specimen, a

We report a case of a woman affected by a metastatic renal clear cell carcinoma who showed unusual metastasis into the trachea and in the right breast 17 years and 21 years after nephrectomy respectively. Two endotracheal metastasis were identified during rigid bronchoscophy and were treated with endotracheal electro-surgery. Solitary metastasis in the right breast was identified by a mammography that revealed a dense mass of 1.5 cm at lower outer quadrant and she underwent to a right breast quadrantectomy. Histological examination showed a clear cell renal carcinoma metastasis as for the trac

Abnormal glycolysis is one of the hallmarks of cancer and plays a significant role in its progression. This study investigates the association between glycolysis genes and the progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Utilizing various bioinformatics techniques, the research explores the heterogeneity of glycolysis genes in different LUAD cell types, identifies glycolysis-related prognostic signatures (GRPS). We obtained one training set for model construction from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, and also obtained four LUAD gene expression datasets as validation sets from the Gene Ex

PURPOSE: While positive resection margin (RM) in women undergoing breast-conserving surgery (BCS) represents a clear indication for re-resection, there is no unequivocal recommendation regarding the extent of the clear RM. The aim of this study was to define the optimal extent of the RM and the risk factors for close or positive RM.
METHODS: Patients scheduled for BCS had diagnosis confirmed before BCS (lumpectomy and quadrantectomy) by core biopsy. Sentinel lymph node biopsy followed BCS, and in case of positive findings axillary lymph node dissection followed. According to RM patients were

Explainable artificial intelligence approaches accelerate drug discovery by improving molecular representation learning, identifying key molecular structures, and rationalizing drug property prediction. However, developing end-to-end explainable models for structure-activity relationship modeling in target-specific compound property prediction remains challenging due to the limited availability of compound-protein interaction data for individual targets and the fact that small changes in chemical substituents or local structural motifs can lead to large differences in molecular properties. INTRODUCTION: Although the use of local flaps in conservative breast surgery (CBS) reconstruction is a reliable technique, little information has been available regarding outcome following the use of perforator flaps. The purpose of this study is to analyze the feasibility, surgical planning and outcome following CBS reconstruction with intercostal artery perforator (ICAP) flap.
PATIENTS/METHODS: Thirteen patients underwent CBS reconstructions with an ICAP flap. These flaps were raised from adjacent tissue located on the lateral and thoracic region and based on perforators originating from the

A patient presented with a 2 cm lump in the lower outer quadrant of the left breast. Mammogram and ultrasonography showed a solid mass with a microlobulated contour, partially irregular border and microcalcifications. MRI showed an irregular mass with early enhancement and high signal intensity, and the late-phase image demonstrated a partial washout pattern. These findings suggest that the tumour was a malignant invasive carcinoma. Non-invasive ductal carcinoma was diagnosed after a fine needle aspiration and core needle biopsy followed by a partial breast excision and sentinel lymph node (SL

A 37-year-old woman presented to the Internal Medicine Clinic with complaints of abdominal pain and constipation which had begun 3 months earlier. A colonoscopy was performed, and wall thickening of the sigmoid colon was detected. A biopsy of the sigmoid colon revealed a poorly differentiated, mucin-producing adenocarcinoma with a signet-ring pattern. No distant metastasis was detected. The patient was treated with chemotherapy consisting of 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin. One and a half years later, a painless mass, which was not fixed to the skin, measuring 1 cm in diameter, was

BACKGROUND: Skin-sparing partial mastectomy (SSPM) has yet to be investigated as a breast-conserving therapy for early-stage breast cancer. We report the clinical outcomes for video-assisted SSPM (VA-SSPM) with immediate breast reconstruction using autogenous tissue.
METHODS: VA-SSPM is indicated for early-stage breast cancer arising in the upper-outer or lower-outer quadrant without skin involvement. An incision is placed along the midaxillary line, and SSPM is performed under endoscopic guidance using subcutaneous tunneling and lifting methods. Through the same incision, a latissimus dorsi

Foreign body granuloma of the breast may cause diagnostic controversy when they present with neoplasia-like imaging findings. A 70-year-old woman presented with a mass in the lower outer quadrant of the right breast measuring 3 x 2 cm with a history of breast biopsy from her right breast a year ago. Mammography was performed and the mass was diagnosed as malignant. A wide excision was performed. The mass was diagnosed histologically as a foreign body granuloma. The patient was discharged and her postoperative recovery was uneventful. Clinicians and radiologist should be aware of this type of b

FUN14 domain‑containing 1 (FUNDC1) is a receptor that has been previously reported to activate hypoxia‑induced mitophagy. However, the potential role of FUNDC1 in the pathophysiology of dental pulp diseases remains unknown. Therefore, present study first collected tissue specimens from patients with pulpitis and from healthy individuals. The results of reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR and immunohistochemical staining revealed markedly increased FUNDC1 and hypoxia‑inducible factor‑1α expression in pulpitis tissue specimens compared with those from healthy individuals. We report two cases of occult breast cancer in which masses were completely nonpalpable and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) was extremely helpful in identifying the primary tumor. Case 1 involved a 56-year-old woman with enlarged lymph nodes 3 cm in size in the axilla. Based on excisional biopsy, axillary lymph node metastasis of breast cancer was suspected but an obvious primary tumor in the breast was not identifiable on mammography, contrast-enhanced CT, or ultrasonography. Faint accumulation of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) was noted only on PET-CT, so the site was con

BACKGROUND: Fibroadenomas with stromal giant cell reaction have been described in the literature, but cytologic atypia including giant cell reaction due to chickenpox giving rise to suspicious cytology has not been reported.
CASE REPORT: A 25-year-old woman, recovering from chickenpox, presented with a 1.5 x 1.5-cm mass in the lower outer quadrant of her right breast. Fine needle aspiration smears showed sheets of benign ductal cells with overlapping myoepithelial cells and many bipolar bare nuclei. Cells showing nuclear enlargement, prominent nucleoli and multilobated or multinucleated giant
