Intrauterine Adhesion-Induced Septated Amniotic Cavity: Ultrasonographic Findings in Second and Third Trimesters.

A 40-year-old woman who had obstetric history of one vaginal delivery and two surgical abortions to terminate early pregnancy received regular prenatal care without any systemic maternal diseases. During the detailed second trimester ultrasound, a homogenous adhesion-induced pseudocystic lesion of 8.6 × 7.4 cm was found between the inlet of the endocervix and the uterine cavity in the lower segment of the uterus. There was a clear septum with an inlet of about 2.6 cm near the right lower segment of the uterus. Transvaginal sonography showed a cervical length of 3.29 cm without dilatation. No g

Successful management of intraoperative cesarean section bleeding due to cervical arteriovenous malformation: A case report.

Cervical arteriovenous malformation is an exceedingly rare condition that can lead to antepartum hemorrhage, posing risks for both maternal and perinatal morbidity. We report the case of a 30-year-old primigravida, at a gestational age of 31+2 weeks, who presented to hospital with antepartum hemorrhage. A speculum examination revealed a 500 mL blood clot. Despite a thorough examination, the cause of the antepartum hemorrhage remained elusive. An emergency cesarean section was done due to hypovolemic shock and a fetal NICHD category III assessment. Following the delivery of the fetus, a pulsati

Stratified Mucin-Producing Intraepithelial Lesion of the Cervix in an HPV-16 Positive Woman: A Rare Encounter.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women globally and has a strong association with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Stratified mucinproducing intraepithelial lesion (SMILE), a variant of Adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), is a rare cervical precancer lesion that is often missed or detected incidentally. CASE PRESENTATION: The present case report briefs the finding of a 39-year-old woman who presented to the gynecological outpatient department with complaints of vaginal discharge for 6-8 months. She had no history of irregular menstrual cycles or postcoital ble

An improved approach for automated cervical cell segmentation with PointRend.

Regular screening for cervical cancer is one of the best tools to reduce cancer incidence. Automated cell segmentation in screening is an essential task because it can present better understanding of the characteristics of cervical cells. The main challenge of cell cytoplasm segmentation is that many boundaries in cell clumps are extremely difficult to be identified. This paper proposes a new convolutional neural network based on Mask RCNN and PointRend module, to segment overlapping cervical cells. The PointRend head concatenates fine grained features and coarse features extracted from differ

Endocervical sampling using brush versus curette: a single centre experience and literature review.

Endocervical sampling is performed traditionally with an endocervical curette (ECC). The current study objective is to compare the histopathological performance of endocervical brush (ECB) and endocervical curette (ECC). A retrospective review was performed including patients included that underwent colposcopy with endocervical sampling using either method. A total of 127 samples were obtained with ECC and 98 with ECB. Histopathological diagnosis was obtained in 124 (97.6%) ECC samples and in 94 (95.9%) ECB samples (p = 0.46). The incidence of benign results was similar between ECC and ECB (11

Embryological Insights into the Origin of Epithelial Cancers of the Female Reproductive Tract.

The embryology of the female reproductive organs is reviewed focusing on aspects relevant to the histogenesis of reproductive neoplasms. The evidence reviewed suggests that (1) there is no embryological link between the ovarian surface epithelium and the coelomic epithelium; (2) the ovarian surface epithelium is not composed of pluripotent cells that readily differentiate into various components of the reproductive tract before or after birth; (3) there is no embryological link between the ovarian surface epithelium and the Müllerian ducts, from which internal female reproductive organs other

Transcriptional profiling of mucus production and modification in rhesus macaque endocervical cells under hormonal regulation.

OBJECTIVE: Endocervical mucus production is a key regulator of fertility throughout the menstrual cycle. With cycle-dependent variability in mucus quality and quantity, cervical mucus can either facilitate or block sperm ascension into the upper female reproductive tract. This study seeks to identify genes involved in the hormonal regulation of mucus production, modification, and regulation through profiling the transcriptome of endocervical cells from the non-human primate, the Rhesus Macaque (Macaca mulatta). DESIGN: Experimental. SETTING: Translational science laboratory. INTERVENTION: W

False-Positive Atypical Endocervical Cells in Conventional Pap Smears: Cyto-Histological Correlation and Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Endocervical glandular atypia is relatively rarely diagnosed by Pap smears. A significant proportion of follow-up histological samples show no premalignant or malignant lesions. The observed cytomorphological findings in premalignant glandular lesions overlap with histologically proven reactive lesions. METHODS: A total of 45 conventional Pap smears diagnosed as atypical endocervical cells, not otherwise specified (AEC, NOS) with human papillomavirus (HPV) status available were blindly evaluated in a search for 38 cytomorphological features representing background, architectural

Risk factors for recurrence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia after loop electrosurgical excisional procedure in patients with positive margins.

AIM: Loop electrosurgical excisional procedure (LEEP) is a major treatment method for cervical precancerous lesions. However, recurrence rates were estimated to be 15%, and the risk is increased if a surgical margin is involved by dysplastic cells. This study aimed to identify the risk factors for recurrence of cervical precancerous lesions in patients with positive margins. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of patients who underwent LEEP between 2012 and 2014 and had a positive surgical margin. Clinicopathologic factors were collected, including age, parity, menopausal sta

Survival of patients with cancers of the female genital organs in Poland, 2000-2019.

The purpose of this study was to estimate cancer survival in Poland between 2000 and 2019 for malignant neoplasms of female genital organs (FGO). We calculated survival in cancer of vulva, vagina, cervix uteri, corpus uteri, ovary, and other unspecified female genital organs. Data were obtained from the Polish National Cancer Registry. We estimated age-standardized 5- and 10-year net survival (NS) with the life table method and the Pohar-Perme estimator using the International Cancer Survival Standard weights. Overall, 231,925 FGO cancer cases were included in the study. The overall FGO age-st

Unique microbial diversity, community composition, and networks among Pacific Islander endocervical and vaginal microbiomes with and without Chlamydia trachomatis infection in Fiji.

Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) is the most common sexually transmitted bacterium globally. Endocervical and vaginal microbiome interactions are rarely examined within the context of Ct or among vulnerable populations. We evaluated 258 vaginal and 92 paired endocervical samples from Fijian women using metagenomic shotgun sequencing. Over 37% of the microbiomes could not be classified into sub-community state types (subCSTs). We, therefore, developed subCSTs IV-D0, IV-D1, IV-D2, and IV-E-dominated primarily by Gardnerella vaginalis-to improve classification. Among paired microbiomes, the endocervix
