All the cytologic and histologic material pertaining to 100 patients who underwent cervical conization for advanced cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) was reviewed. The revision of the histology of the biopsies and cones showed in 56 cases the association of CIN with viral cytopathic effects (VCE) attributable to human pappiloma virus (HPV) and in 52 the coexistence of a predominantly flat condyloma. The gross morphology, density, distribution and ultrastructure of the Langerhans cell of the normal human exocervix were investigated. Two standardized zinc-iodide-osmium (ZIO) procedures were applied to epithelial sheets as well as to tissue samples processed for both light and electron microscopy. Female guinea pigs were experimentally infected in the genital tract with the strain of Chlamydia psittaci that causes guinea pig inclusion conjunctivitis. Chlamydiae were found frequently in superficial squamous epithelial cells of the exocervix, along with heavy involvement at the squamocolumnar junction. Thermostable antigen (TA) occurs in ovarian carcinoma and in certain specialized tissues. High titers of TA were found in nineteen of twenty endocervical extracts but not in myometrium, endometrium, or exocervix. TA was present in all of sixteen cervical mucus samples. Anatomo-pathological features of 3 cases of blue naevi of the cervix are presented and discussed together with the literature. Blue naevi of the cervix are localised in the chorion of the endocervical mucus and sometimes even in a polyp, and can be multiple. They are different from benign melanosis or melanocytes which are found in the basal portion of the malpighian epithelium of the exocervix or the vagina. The blue naevus and benign melanosis can rarely give rise to primitive malignant melanomas of the cervix.

A 55-year-old, white, multiparous woman had an invasive, endocervical, squamous cell carcinoma. The tumor had spread superficially into the entire endometrial cavity. The lesion abruptly terminated at the squamocolumnar junction, and the exocervix was free of invasion. Apparently, the cervical, malignant, squamous epithelium had spread upward in a superficial fashion and had mechanically replaced the columnar epithelium.

Combined regimen contraceptive steroids produce precocious endometrial secretion, followed by involution leading to a suppressed endometrium with small tubular glands and failure of spiral arterioles to develop; decidua-like stromal changes are dose related as is dilatation of venules. Thrombosis of the latter, perhaps estrogen mediated, leads to local tissue infarction and is the proximate cause of "breakthrough bleeding". A potent topical anesthetic drug, 1% tetracaine, and a placebo were evaluated in a "double-blind" study to determine whether or not topical anesthesia could be achieved on the exocervix, endocervix, and endometrial cavity. No anesthetic effect of tetracaine was demonstrated.
