The relationship between symptoms of adenomyosis and current ultrasonographic diagnostic criteria.

INTRODUCTION: Adenomyosis is a uterine disorder defined by presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium with surrounding myometrial hyperplasia. Research has shown that ultrasound (US) can play a key role in early adenomyosis diagnosis and treatment. The Morphological Uterus Sonographic Assessment (MUSA) recently published standardized criteria for ultrasonographic diagnosis of adenomyosis, but the relationship between these criteria and clinical symptoms, has yet to be clinically validated. OBJECTIVES: To assess the prevalence of MUSA ultrasound criteria of adenomyosis and

[Uptade on myometrial vascular lesions].

Enhanced myometrial vascularity is an acquired condition, secondary to trophoblastic invasion, often mistakenly confused with congenital arteriovenous malformation, from which it differs in its pathophysiology and evolution. Diagnosis is based on transvaginal ultrasound, combining B-mode and color Doppler imaging. Most often asymptomatic, it resolves spontaneously after complete expulsion of the trophoblast. In cases of significant bleeding, active management may be necessary, guided by the severity of symptoms rather than imaging criteria alone.

RAC1-YAP1-PIEZO1 signaling axis links intrauterine inflammation to uterine hypercontractility and preterm labor.

Preterm birth is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, yet its underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. Our previous studies have demonstrated that the mechanosensitive ion channel PIEZO1 plays a critical role in regulating intracellular calcium levels and amplifying inflammation in uterine smooth muscle (USM) cells, thereby promoting USM contractility and preterm labor. However, the upstream regulatory mechanisms driving PIEZO1 expression during infection-induced preterm labor remain unclear. Here, we established an infection-induced preterm birth mouse model using

Modern hysteroscopic management of congenital uterine anomalies: current techniques, emerging technologies, and future directions.

BACKGROUND: Congenital uterine anomalies are clinically relevant in reproductive medicine, particularly among women with infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, adverse obstetric outcomes, or obstructive symptoms. Hysteroscopy has transformed the management of correctable intracavitary anomalies by enabling conservative, image-guided reconstruction of the uterine cavity while avoiding the morbidity of historical abdominal metroplasty. SCOPE: This narrative review critically examines contemporary hysteroscopic management of septate uterus, dysmorphic uterus, bicorporeal septate uterus and rare

Post-radiation Uterine Carcinosarcoma: A Case Report.

Uterine carcinosarcoma is a rare, malignant tumor of the endometrium composed of both high-grade epithelial (carcinomatous) and mesenchymal (sarcomatous) components, representing one of the most aggressive histological subtypes of endometrial carcinoma. Prior pelvic radiotherapy has been associated with an increased risk of subsequent aggressive endometrial malignancies, although the latency between irradiation and tumor development may vary considerably. Diagnosis may be delayed because early symptoms can mimic benign post-radiation sequelae. We report a woman in her 60s who, seven years afte

Endometrial tuberculosis mimicking gynecological malignancy in a postmenopausal woman.

BACKGROUND: Female genital tuberculosis is a rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis that may mimic gynecologic malignancy, particularly when clinical and imaging findings are nonspecific. Diagnosis can be especially challenging in postmenopausal women. CASE PRESENTATION: A 78-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with pelvic pain and was found to have marked endometrial cavity distention, hematometra, and a cervical lesion concerning for malignancy. Severe cervical stenosis prevented adequate endometrial sampling despite examination under anesthesia, attempted hysteroscopy, and dilation a

Plasma Proteome-Wide Mendelian Randomization with Multi-Layer Triangulation Identifies Druggable Targets for Uterine Leiomyoma.

BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyoma (fibroids) is the most common benign tumor in women and the leading indication for hysterectomy, yet medical therapy remains limited and largely hormonal. Whether circulating proteins causally influence fibroid risk, and could therefore be repurposed as drug targets, has not been examined proteome-wide. METHODS: We performed cis-pQTL drug-target MR using plasma protein quantitative trait loci from the UK Biobank Pharma Proteomics Project (Olink; 2923 proteins; n=54,219). Uterine leiomyoma was the outcome in two GWAS: FinnGen R12 (42,107 cases/239,957 controls; di

State of the art imaging for endometriosis and adenomyosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic oestrogen-dependent condition characterised by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Although benign, the associated chronic inflammation and fibrosis can result in substantial symptomatic burden, including chronic pelvic pain, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea and dyspareunia. Adenomyosis, which commonly co-exists with endometriosis, is defined by endometrial glands within the myometrium, causing chronic inflammation and fibrosis. Symptoms overlap with endometriosis, including heavy menstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhoea and chronic pelvic pain. Historical

Assessing the impact of workload factors on self-assessed sustainability among rural internationally trained physicians.

INTRODUCTION: Rural and remote communities across Canada face persistent physician shortages. Internationally trained physicians (ITPs) have become a critical component of the rural physician workforce, yet little is known about how specific workload characteristics influence physicians' perceptions of workload sustainability and long-term rural retention. Objectives of this study were to identify workload-related factors associated with perceived workload sustainability among ITPs practicing in rural Saskatchewan. METHODS: We conducted a secondary cross-sectional analysis of prospectively co

MicroRNAs associated with adenomyosis promote endometrial epithelial cell migration via MMP-2 and MMP-9 upregulation†.

Adenomyosis is a common gynecological disorder characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue in the myometrium, causing chronic pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding. Although dysregulated microRNAs (miRNAs) in stromal cells of adenomyosis patients have been implicated in disease-associated extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, their role in regulating endometrial epithelial cell (EEC) behavior remains poorly understood. This study investigated the effect of selected adenomyosis- and endometriosis-associated miRNAs on EEC migration and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression. Ishikawa cel

Stanozolol, an anabolic-androgenic steroid, modulates expression of receptors and disrupts uterine histoarchitecture in Mus musculus.

Abuse of Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids (AAS) by professional and recreational athletes for endurance performance and physique is increasing globally, consequently resulting in secondary pathophysiological effects. The present investigation aims to determine the effect of one of the AAS, stanozolol (ST), on uterine physiology and histology. A total of 15 female mice were assigned to three experimental groups (n = 5). ST was dosed subcutaneously (low-dose, 0.5 mg/kg bwt; high-dose, 5.0 mg/kg bwt or 1% alcohol-baseline control) for 30 days, and treatment was withdrawn on the 31st day. In this stud

Layer-Specific Quantitative Assessment of Collagen Distribution in Equine Uteri Using Masson's Trichrome and Digital Image Analysis: A Comparative Study.

Equine endometrial fibrosis is a chronic and progressive equine uterine condition characterized by fibrosis that affects mares' fertility, with a wide range of fertility outcomes being reported for these mares. Therefore, assessing layer-specific collagen (COL) distribution is essential for a comprehensive understanding of endometrial remodelling and its impact on equine reproductive potential. Full-thickness uterine samples, including stratum functionalis (SF), stratum basalis (SB) and myometrium, were collected post-mortem from healthy control mares (Category I; n = 10) and those with modera

Prepartum E2-driven tissue-specific transcriptomic changes in the ewe reproductive tract.

Estrogens regulate key processes in parturition, yet the specific effects of estradiol (E2) on maternal reproductive tissues in sheep remain unclear. This study investigated the impact of exogenous E2, mimicking physiological prepartum levels, on gene expression in the myometrium, endometrium, cervix, and placental membranes, as well as sex steroid receptor protein expression in uterine compartments of late pregnant ewes. Pregnant ewes (139-142 d gestation) received Silastic implants containing either E2 (200 µg/ewe, n = 6) or control (n = 6), and tissues were collected 26 h post-treatment. Bu
