The search for an unknown primary tumour is often time-consuming, costly and unrewarding. Positron emission tomography might be an effective method for screening the body for malignant deposits. We present the case of a woman with a symptomatic liver tumour of unknown origin. A 51-year old patient consults for abdominal swelling and persistent constipation. Clinical exploration shows the presence of a left iliac fossa tumor corresponding to a papillary serous adenocarcinoma of the fallopian tube after macroscopic and microscopic examination. Malacoplakia is a chronic xanthogranulomatous inflammation that most commonly affects the urinary tract and the gastrointestinal system of middle-aged women. Isolated Fallopian tube torsion is extremely rare and diagnosis is difficult. Laparoscopy is necessary, but surgery is often performed too late to preserve the tube. Five cases of Fallopian tube torsion with no other element are presented. Diagnostic difficulties, causes, ultrasonographic findings and treatment are discussed. Early diagnosis and surgical intervention is mandatory when exceptional isolated Fallopian tube torsion is suspected particularly in a nulliparous young woman.

OBJECTIVE: To establish a technology of preimplantation genetic diagnosis. METHODS: Intracytoplasm sperm injection and blastomere biopsy were performed on two women at the advanced age with the fallopian tube obstruction. Normal embryos were selected for embryo transfer after fluorescence in-situ hybridziation in biopsied blastomere. A 39-year-old multipara was admitted to hospital with lower abdominal pain. She had used an intrauterine device (IUD) for 10 years. Three years ago, her tubes were ligated. Ultrasound examination revealed a 9.5 x 6 cm multiloculated cystic mass in the right part of her lower abdomen. CA-125 was also found to be increased. Since ovarian malignancy was suspected, laparotomy was performed. Pathologically, an actinomycotic tubo-ovarian abscess with sulfur granules was disclosed.

The aim of this case report is to underline that the hydratic disease is still a healthcare problem in our country. Moreover, the atypical site of the cyst, as shown in the report, is a rare event and sometimes, an intraoperative or histological finding. Difficulties could arise from the operative management, during the radical procedures, to preserve some anatomic important structures. Modern imagistic data will certainly improve the preoperative diagnosis.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether laparoscopic bipolar coagulation of uterine vessels (LBCUV) and supracervical amputation improve laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH).
DESIGN: Prospective, randomized, longitudinal study (Canadian Task Force classification II-1).
SETTING: Private practice, university-affiliated hospital.
PATIENTS: Sixty-four women (age 31-52 yrs) with symptomatic myomatous uteri larger than 12 weeks on bimanual examination.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the incidence, significance, and anatomy of spermatic cord and round ligament lipomas.
METHODS: This was a retrospective review of 280 hernia repairs on 217 patients performed by a single surgeon (M.E.A.) from January 1996 to January 2000. The incidence of cord lipoma and relationship to inguinal hernia were evaluated.
