The authors report a case of an unusual anatomic variation encountered during uterine embolization, that of absence of a uterine artery, with replacement by an enlarged round ligament artery. This case highlights the importance of understanding the arterial anatomy of the uterus and its potential variations and their potential impact on the outcome of the procedure.

This study reports the developmental anatomy of testicular descent and inguinal closure of the tammar wallaby (Macropus eugenii) from birth to maturity. In females the ovary migrated caudally between days 10 and 20 after birth. The gubernaculum differentiates into the round ligament in the abdomen and extra-abdominally as the ilio-marsupialis muscle of the mammary glands. Surgical technique and instrumentation of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy continue to undergo improvements. A major concern, however, is whether or not the retroperitoneum is adequately exposed. We developed a technique using straight needles to suspend the round ligament and posterior peritoneum. It gives good exposure with little injury to surrounding tissues. The procedure is easy to perform and requires only 3 to 5 minutes, making laparoscopic lymphadenectomy easier.

BACKGROUND: Paraovarian cysts are common intrapelvic neoplasms, but the magnetic resonance (MR) findings of paraovarian cyst have never been reported. We investigated the spectrum of MR imaging features of paraovarian cyst.
METHODS: MR images of 18 paraovarian cysts in 16 patients were reviewed retrospectively. MR images were evaluated for the size and location of paraovarian cysts, single or multicystic, signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted images, and visualization of the normal ovary on the affected side.

BACKGROUND: Increased safety and diminished blood loss are achieved through laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy by selective coagulation and transsection of the uterine vessels at their origin.
METHODS: Three laparoscopic steps are performed: coagulation and transsection of the round ligament, of the uterine artery at its origin, and of the fallopian tube and ovarian ligament or (in BSO) the infundibulopelvic ligament. The uterine vessels are identified from the pararectal space and, following the internal liliac artery, and the ureter. Hysterectomy is completed transvaginally.

Chondrolipoangioma is a mesenchymoma primarily composed of cartilage, with adipose tissue and vascular elements present in lesser proportions. Chondrolipoangiomas have been reported to occur in the extremities, chest wall, oral soft tissues, mediastinum, uterus and its round ligament, seminal vesicles, and heart. In this report, the authors present an unusual case in which a chondrolipoangioma caused a brachial plexopathy. To their knowledge, a chondrolipoangioma has never been reported in the neurosurgical literature.

Extragonadal endometriosis is rarely diagnosed preoperatively for the variety of its localizations. Presentations to general surgeons may be atypical and pose diagnostic difficulty, mimicking other acute diseases. We report three cases treated with surgical operation. The use of laparoscopy in diagnosis, investigation, and therapy is very important. The paper describes the laparoscopic technique of correction of a retroflexed uterus. This technique is based on sewing the round ligaments of the uterus to the abdomen fascia. Both simplicity and usefulness of the method are demonstrated.

An unusual case of endometriosis involving the right round ligament in a 40-year-old woman is presented. After giving birth to two children, she first noticed a tender mass in the right groin at the age of 36. It didn't change in size but pain appeared at the age of 38, disturbing her daily life. A poorly circumscribed elastic hard mass, measuring 3 cm in diameter, was palpable in her right inguinal region. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a 2x3 cm mass in the right inguinal canal. PURPOSE OF INVESTIGATION: Surgery and radiotherapy achieved equivalent results for FIGO stages Ib-IIa invasive cervical carcinoma. The integration of radiotherapy and surgery provided the same results for a selected series of patients without increasing the rate of complications. Our objective was to compare the amount of collagen in parametrium and vaginal apex between women with uterine prolapse at pre- and postmenopause, and in women without prolapse. A series of 96 radical trachelectomies performed between April 1987 and May 2002 at Hospital Edouard Herriot in Lyon is reported.
