PURPOSE: To determine the ultrasonographic (US) abnormalities that may be encountered after testicular biopsy.

PURPOSE: In the pediatric population a broad spectrum of intrascrotal pathology ranging from congenital to neoplastic lesions present as a painless scrotal mass. The aim of our 10-year retrospective study was to review 71 pediatric cases of a painless scrotal mass to determine the overall and age specific prevalence of diseases manifesting as such masses.

Asymptomatic scrotal masses (ASM) in children constitute an entity of pathologies, ranging from congenital anomalies to neoplasms. The presence or absence of Chlamydia trachomatis antigen in the uterine cervix, uterine cavity and urinary tract was investigated by EIA (Chlamydiazyme) in 159 patients, in addition to the measurement of serum antibody titers in 120 of them by indirect enzyme immunoassay (IPAzyme). The results obtained were as follows. 1. The antigen was detected from one of the 3 sites in 13.8%. Silver-stained nucleolar organiser regions (AgNORs) were studied in 10 hyperplastic, 5 intra-epithelial neoplastic and 30 malignant prostatic lesions. Total AgNOR counts and types were compared with histological features. In this study an attempt was made to clarify some of the causes of the apparent differences in appearance on ultrasound (US) images of prostate cancer. Using linear-array transrectal prostate sonography, malignant lesions in 43 patients and benign lesions in 74 patients were evaluated. We measured plasma estradiol levels and ovarian volumes in eight girls with precocious puberty due to McCune-Albright syndrome.
