lncRNA UCA1 promotes tumor progression by targeting SMARCD3 in cervical cancer.

Long noncoding RNA urothelial carcinoma associated 1 (UCA1) has been identified as a key molecule in human cancers. However, its functional implications remain unspecified in the context of cervical cancer (CC). This research aims to identify the regulatory mechanism of UCA1 in CC. UCA1 was identified through microarray and confirmed through a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Proteins that bind with UCA1 were recognized using RNA pull-down assays along with RNA immunoprecipitation. Ubiquitination assays and coimmunoprecipitation were performed to explore the molecular mechanis

Rare case of pelvic schwannoma mimicking intra-ligamenter uterine fibroid: A case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Schwannomas are benign tumors originating from Schwann cells of nerve fibers. Pelvic schwannomas are extremely rare. Here, we present a case of a 48-year-old woman with a pelvic schwannoma imitating degenerating cystic leiomyoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old woman presented with brown-yellowish bloody vaginal discharge, fever, abdominal enlargement, and pain. Abdominal ultrasound showed a homogeneous solid mass with a clear border separated from the uterus and left ovary. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a multilocular cystic mass with thick septa and so

Diagnostic utility of axial imaging in the evaluation of hematuria: A systematic review and critical appraisal of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Increasing severity of hematuria is instinctively associated with higher likelihood of urological malignancy. However, the robustness of the evidentiary base for this assertion is unclear, particularly as it relates to the likelihood of upper urinary tract pathology. Thus, the value of axial imaging in the diagnostic workup of hematuria is unclear due to differences in the underlying patient populations, raising concern for sampling bias. We performed a systematic review to characterize the literature and association between severity of hematuria and likelihood of upper urinary t

A systematic review and meta-analysis of unplanned hospital visits and re-admissions following radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Unplanned visits (UPV) - re-admissions and emergency room (ER) visits - are markers of healthcare system quality. Radical prostatectomy (RP) is a commonly performed cancer procedure, where variation in UPV represents a gap in care for prostate cancer patients. Here, we systematically synthesize the rates, reasons, predictors, and interventions for UPV after RP to inform evidence-based quality improvement (QI) initiatives. METHODS: A systematic review was performed for studies from 2000-2020 using keywords: "re-admission," "emergency room/department," "unplanned visit," and "pros

Late urological manifestation of stress incontinence surgery.

The Stamey procedure was a popular procedure for female stress incontinence practiced widely in the 1980s before it was abandoned owing to high complication rates. The procedure aimed to suspend the bladder neck by placing two transvaginal Dacron buttress grafts either side of the bladder neck and suspending them with sutures passed through the retropubic space and tied suprapubically. Erosion of the graft into the bladder was a recognised complication. We report a case of an 84-year-old lady who presented with urinary symptoms forty years after an unspecified stress incontinence procedure. Im

Risk prediction models for symptomatic patients with bladder and kidney cancer: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Timely diagnosis of bladder and kidney cancer is key to improving clinical outcomes. Given the challenges of early diagnosis, models incorporating clinical symptoms and signs may be helpful to primary care clinicians when triaging at-risk patients. AIM: To identify and compare published models that use clinical signs and symptoms to predict the risk of undiagnosed prevalent bladder or kidney cancer. DESIGN AND SETTING: Systematic review. METHOD: A search identified primary research reporting or validating models predicting the risk of bladder or kidney cancer in MEDLINE and EMBA
