Idiopathic ıntracranial hypertension: diagnostic contribution of novel MRI parameters and their relationship with CSF pressure.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is associated with well-known classical neuroimaging hallmarks, but not all patients exhibit these typical findings. We aimed to investigate novel imaging features that could aid in diagnosing IIH and to assess the relationships between these features and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) opening pressures. METHODS: A total of 57 IIH patients (50 females, mean age 37 years) and 57 age- and sex-matched controls (mean age 34 years) were retrospectively evaluated. CSF opening pressures, brain MRI and MR venography findings were reviewed for typical

From white dot syndromes to primary inflammatory choriocapillaropathies (PICCPs): updating and expanding the spectrum through multimodal imaging.

BACKGROUND: The term "white dot syndromes" (WDS) has historically been used as a descriptive label to encompass a heterogeneous group of inflammatory chorioretinal disorders characterized by multifocal whitish fundus lesions. Although clinically convenient, this classification relied predominantly on ophthalmoscopic appearance and fluorescein angiography findings and failed to identify the primary anatomical site of inflammation or the underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Consequently, profoundly disparate entities-such as acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE), diffus

Bridging Continuous and Discrete Models of the Anterior Temporal Lobe via Cortical Gradients.

The anterior temporal lobe (ATL) is critical for semantic cognition, yet its organisation remains debated. Some evidence supports a patchwork of discrete, domain-specific parcels, while the graded hub hypothesis proposes smooth, ordered transitions. We examined regions along ATL's curvature, testing whether connectivity profiles varied systematically or discontinuously along whole-brain dimensions of functional connectivity. The structural and functional connectivity of ATL varied largely systematically on the heteromodal-unimodal dimension, with intermediate ventral parcels showing stronger h

Psychological assessment in patients suffering from chronic pain treated with Spinal Cord Stimulation: A prospective observational study protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has been used to manage a variety of chronic pain conditions, including cancer population. People suffering from this medical condition often report strong limitations in their daily and work activities, and a deterioration of health-related quality of life. This study aims at investigating the relationship between psychological factors and intervention outcomes (pain reduction, removal of SCS). Further, the acceptability and satisfaction levels regarding the SCS intervention will be assessed. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Cancer survivors 1) suffering from

Cerebellum violates Marr-Albus predictions to train synapses on long-term anticipatory goals.

The cerebellar role in motor adaptation rests - according to the foundational theories of Marr and Albus - on the detection of (near)coincident activity between parallel fiber (PF) and climbing fiber (CF) inputs onto Purkinje cells. Supported by numerous in vitro studies, these theories predict synaptic adaptation based on temporal precision detected in time windows of 0ms to ~100ms. These predictions have not been tested in intact animals. Using two-photon imaging from cerebellar Crus I in intact, awake mice, we show here that coincident stimulation of the PF and CF inputs does not initiate p

Robotically assisted large-field-of-view, ultra-high-resolution imaging for the entire cornea with spectral domain optical coherence tomography.

It is challenging to achieve high-resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) imaging of the entire cornea with optical coherence tomography (OCT) due to the cornea's curved, dome-like shape. With a typical telecentric scanning optical path, the scattered photons are less likely to return to the interferometer at the peripheral regions, leading to a reduction in SNR. This study presents a 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) robotic-arm-assisted, ultra-high-resolution OCT imaging system designed to adapt to the cornea's curvature. In this system, a multi-region scanning approach combined with robotic

Comparison of the Effects of Conventional and Piezoelectric Osteotomy on Intracranial Pressure Changes in Rhinoplasty Using Ultrasonographic Measurement of Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to compare piezoelectric osteotomy with conventional osteotomy in rhinoplasty using ultrasonographic techniques in terms of ICP and the measurement of the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONDM). METHODOLOGY: A total of 40 patients who underwent rhinoplasty surgery were included in the study. The patients were randomly divided into two groups of 20. Conventional osteotomy was performed in the first group during surgery. Piezoelectric osteotomy was performed in the second group. ONDMs were measured. Prior to anesthesia induction, baseline ONDM was determined as

RNA exosome-mediated RNA surveillance governs developmental timing in the human cerebellum.

Defects in RNA metabolism are a defining feature of neurodevelopmental disease, yet how RNA decay pathways contribute to human brain development remains poorly understood. Mutations in ubiquitously expressed RNA surveillance factors often cause highly tissue-selective disease, highlighting a central paradox in human biology. The RNA exosome is a conserved ribonuclease complex traditionally viewed as a housekeeping machine for RNA turnover, yet recessive mutations in genes encoding structural subunits of the complex disproportionately cause neurological disease, suggesting an instructive role i

Distinct brain volume changes associated with the head-turning sign and Neucop-Q response patterns in Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: The "head-turning sign" (HTS) and Neurocognitive Questionnaire (Neucop-Q) capture toritsukuroi (saving appearance) behaviors commonly observed in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Neucop-Q is a brief screening questionnaire assessing current event memory (News; N), self-awareness/concern (Consciousness; C), and engagement in pleasurable activities (Pleasure; P). Previously, HTS-positivity and impaired N/impaired C/normal P (NimpCimpPnor) combination show high specificity for amyloid PET positivity. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the neuroanatomical correlates of HTS and specific Neucop-Q respo

Chronic pain induces cell type-specific alterations in the intrinsic excitability of spinal cord lamina II circuits in female rats.

Chronic pain is associated with maladaptive plasticity within nociceptive circuits of the spinal dorsal horn (SDH). However, whether this reorganization selectively targets specific neuronal populations remains unresolved. Addressing this question has been technically challenging because reliable measurements of somatic excitability in spinal neurons are difficult to obtain under experimental pain conditions, where tissue integrity and recording stability are frequently compromised. In this comparative study, we examined neuronal excitability in two electrophysiologically distinct lamina II po

Ion-sensitive in-situ gel loaded with rebamipide micelles for the treatment of diabetic keratopathy.

Excessive ROS production triggers diabetic keratopathy (DK), causing dry eyes and impaired healing. Commercial Rebamipide (Reb) eye drops (Mucosta®) suffer from poor bioavailability, short retention, and irritation. To overcome these limitations, this study developed Reb-loaded nanomicelles in ion-sensitive in-situ gels (Reb-NM-ISGs). This dual-approach combines micelles for enhanced solubility and corneal penetration with a gel that forms upon contact with tear fluid, significantly prolonging drug retention. In diabetic models, Reb-NM-ISGs effectively treated dry eye symptoms (improving tear

PC3/Tis21/BTG2 and BTG1 genes: regulators of the cell cycle and neurogenesis, as well as tumor suppressors in malignant brain tumors.

PC3/Tis21/BTG2 and BTG1, prototype members of the BTG/Tob family, are antiproliferative transcriptional cofactors discovered 35 years ago as genes induced by nerve growth factor and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate or associated with lymphocytic leukemia. They are today known to serve as developmental regulators in several tissues, including neural cells. Biological functions such as cell division, transcriptional control, DNA repair, and mRNA stability, have been linked to their protein products. We will focus in this review on the effects of PC3/Tis21/BTG2 and BTG1 on brain tumorigenesis and

Redox regulation of PDE6 and cGMP signaling in diabetic retinal neurodegeneration.

Diabetic retinal neurodegeneration is increasingly recognized as an early and critical component of diabetic retinopathy, driven in part by persistent oxidative stress and dysregulated intracellular signaling. Among these pathways, cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling plays a central role in photoreceptor function and survival. Phosphodiesterase 6 (PDE6), the key enzyme responsible for cGMP hydrolysis in photoreceptors, has been extensively studied in inherited retinal disorders; however, its regulation under diabetic and redox-imbalanced conditions remains insufficiently defined. Hippocampal volume from T1 MRI as an atrophy biomarker: automated calculation and Scheltens' scale correlation.

OBJECTIVE: Scheltens' discrete scale is widely used for assessing brain atrophy but has limitations in subjectivity and tracking patient progression over short periods. Automated brain volumetry offers a more objective imaging approach for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases. This retrospective study aims to correlate Scheltens' scale assessments with hippocampal and cerebrum volumes measured by volBrain, enhancing patient care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study involved 106 participants, including healthy volunteers and patients with mild cognitive impairment, all scanned using a standardi

Primary cervical aggressive fibromatosis with spinal cord compression in a cat.

Desmoid tumors, also known as aggressive fibromatosis, are benign neoplastic proliferations with a high capacity for invasion into adjacent tissues and are incapable of promoting metastasis. Despite being rare, it is well described in medicine, whereas only isolated reports exist in veterinary medicine. Herein, we describe a case of primary aggressive fibromatosis affecting the cervical region of a young cat and associated with spinal cord compression and neurological signs. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed spinal cord compression and hypointensity on pulse sequences, which guided localizat

Corneal regenerative contribution of endogenous and grafted limbal-corneal cells in a mouse model of simple limbal-corneal epithelial transplantation.

Severe ocular damage, such as corneal alkali-injury, can compromise the limbal stem cell (LSC) niches, leading to LSC deficiency (LSCD) and resulting in significant vision impairment. Current insights into the wound healing process associated with simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET), a therapeutic intervention for LSCD, are derived solely from clinical studies, which impose methodological limitations and hinder a complete understanding of the cellular dynamics underlying SLET. For the first time, we adapted the clinical SLET procedure to a mouse model of LSCD, enabling a robust and

Training the next generation: a blueprint for simulation-based microsurgical education in neurosurgery.

OBJECTIVE: Modern neurosurgical training is increasingly challenged by declining surgical caseloads and reduced hands-on opportunities. While haptic simulators offer safe and repetitive practice, their adoption remains limited due to high costs, suboptimal realism, and lack of standardization. This study introduces a highly realistic, low-cost, and fully replicable microsurgical simulator for repetitive training in complex cranial procedures, including sylvian fissure and white matter dissections, aneurysm clipping, and resection of anterior skull base, frontal, and temporal lobe tumors.
