The influence of magnification correction on macular retinal/choroidal thickness and vessel density measurements using optical coherence tomography angiography in 4-17-year-old students.

BACKGROUND: Transverse macular measurements from optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) depend on ocular magnification, which varies with axial length (AL); in growing children, whether correcting for magnification alters macular thickness and vessel-density measurements enough to matter clinically is unclear, and no anchor-based clinical threshold exists. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, retinal and choroidal thickness (RT, ChT) and retinal and choroidal vessel density (RVD, CVD) -each in the central fovea, parafovea, perifovea and whole-grid average (16 parameters) -were mea

Retinal detachment complicating ocular coloboma.

Choroidal, optic disc and crystalline lens colobomas are rare ophthalmological conditions, but they can (either directly or by association) present with retinal detachments that are difficult to manage. Due to their rarity and variability of presentation, evidence of different approaches to treatment strategies is mainly found in case reports or small case series. This article reviews the basic pathogenesis of these conditions and the authors' experience in how various treatment options address the underlying mechanisms. Sub-categories of retinal detachments complicating choroidal coloboma and

Mast Cells in Neuroimmune Interactions: Mechanisms, Pathophysiological Roles, and Therapeutic Implications.

Mast cells (MCs) are versatile immune cells that play a key role in neuroimmune interactions due to their strategic localization in barrier tissues and perineuronal sites, including the meninges, choroid plexus, thalamus, hypothalamus, and hippocampus within the central nervous system (CNS), as well as peripheral sites such as the skin, gastrointestinal tract, and dorsal root ganglia. They rapidly release stored and newly synthesized mediators, including histamine, tryptase, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), substance P, and prostaglandins, which regulate nerve signaling

Plasma and cerebrospinal fluid proteomics reveal distinct patterns of senescence and neuropathology in aging rhesus macaques.

Aging is the primary risk factor for neurodegenerative disease, yet the protein signatures that distinguish physiological brain aging from pathological decline remain incompletely defined in translational models. Using the targeted NULISAseq proteomic platform, we profiled cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma from 66 rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta) spanning adult, pre-geriatric, and geriatric ages, and benchmarked the results against human reference samples. Age-related differences were broader and predominantly positive in plasma, whereas comparatively fewer CSF proteins differed with age. C

A biodegradable hydroxyapatite-coated magnesium drainage plate enables medium-term suprachoroidal outflow preservation and stable intraocular pressure reduction in rabbits.

Postoperative scarring and failure of surgically created drainage pathways limit durable glaucoma surgery. We developed a solid plate-type suprachoroidal space (SCS) implant based on hydroxyapatite-coated magnesium (HA-Mg) to provide temporary pathway support, an HA-modified material-tissue interface, and progressive biodegradation. TGF-β2-stimulated human iris pigment epithelial cells were used to assess material-associated effects on migration and fibrotic activation. In a paired-eye normotensive New Zealand White rabbit model, trabeculectomy, sham SCS surgery, titanium, uncoated magnesium,

Automatic Choroid Segmentation and Thickness Measurement Based on Mixed Attention-Guided Multiscale Feature Fusion Network.

Choroidal thickness variations serve as critical biomarkers for numerous ophthalmic diseases. Accurate segmentation and quantification of the choroid in optical coherence tomography (OCT) images is essential for clinical diagnosis and disease progression monitoring. Due to the small number of disease types in the public OCT dataset involving changes in choroidal thickness and the lack of a publicly available labeled dataset, we constructed the Xuzhou Municipal Hospital (XZMH)-Choroid dataset. This dataset contains annotated OCT images of normal and eight choroid-related diseases. However, segm
