Topical mycophenolate for the treatment of uveitis-associated inflammation.

OBJECTIVE: Uveitis refers to the inflammation of the uveal tract of the eye (iris, ciliary body and choroid). In the developed world, it accounts for 10–15% of all cases of blindness. Anterior uveitis accounts is the most common form of uveitis. There is an unmet need for a topically administered non-steroidal drug to treat anterior uveitis. METHODS: We tested two topical formulations of mycophenolate (MPA), an inhibitor of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) enzyme, as a potential steroid-sparing treatment for uveitis. We studied first the binding of MPA to a three-dimensional model o

Real-World Treatment Patterns and Survival in Uveal Melanoma: A Multicenter Cohort Study by the Turkish Oncology Group (TOG).

Background/Objectives: Uveal melanoma (UM) is a subtype of melanoma that originates from the uveal layer of the eye (iris, ciliary body, choroid) and is biologically distinct from cutaneous melanoma. The real-world evidence on treatment patterns and survival outcomes, particularly from non-Western populations, remains limited. This study provides a comprehensive national overview of local and systemic management of UM across Türkiye. Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study, coordinated by the Turkish Oncology Group (TOG), included patients diagnosed with UM between 2012 and 2025 a

Ultrasound biomicroscopy findings in uveitic hypotony: a three-case report.

BACKGROUND: Ocular hypotony is a serious but uncommon complication of uveitis, rarely documented with detailed imaging. Ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) provides high-resolution visualization of anterior and intermediate segment structures, helping to identify the underlying mechanisms and guide management. CASE PRESENTATION: We present three cases of uveitic hypotony illustrating the contribution of UBM in determining the etiology and prognosis. Each case highlights distinct mechanisms, including cyclitic membrane formation, serous ciliary body detachment, and structural damage secondary to tra

Correlation between mid-term intraocular pressure and aqueous flare value in micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation: a retrospective observational study.

BACKGROUND: Micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (MP-TSCPC) lowers intraocular pressure (IOP), but the mechanisms underlying its IOP-reducing effect remain incompletely understood. Although early postoperative flare elevation has been reported in association with IOP reduction, the relationship during the mid-term postoperative period has not been well characterized. In this study, the mid-term period was defined a priori as 3–18 months after surgery. METHODS: This retrospective exploratory study included 25 eyes of 25 patients who underwent initial MP-TSCPC at Ishida Eye Clinic betwe

Reduced Accommodation Without Mydriasis After Micropulse Cyclophotocoagulation in a Young Congenital Glaucoma Patient: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Micropulse cyclophotocoagulation (MPCPC) is a commonly used procedure to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients. While it is generally considered safer than traditional transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC), complications such as transient mydriasis and reduced accommodation due to short ciliary nerve damage have been reported. However, isolated loss of accommodation without pupillary involvement has not been previously documented. We report a case of reduced accommodation without pupil dilation in a young patient after MPCPC. CASE REPORT A 26-year-old woman wit

Intraocular Metastasis: Differential Diagnosis and Management.

Intraocular metastases represent the most common type of malignant intraocular tumour in adults. These commonly affect the choroid but can also involve the iris, ciliary body, retina, vitreous, optic disc or lens. Breast and lung cancer are the most common origins of intraocular metastases. The diagnosis of intraocular metastases can be particularly challenging in patients without a prior history of cancer. Furthermore, treatment decisions may be complex, especially in individuals already receiving systemic therapy or in those with previous ocular treatment history. Herein, we present a review

Noninfectious uveitis: Management with biologic agents.

Uveitis is an inflammatory condition involving the iris, ciliary body, and choroid, and it represents a significant cause of vision loss in both children and adults. The primary goals of uveitis management are to control inflammation, prevent recurrences, and minimize structural damage and subsequent visual impairment. Currently, corticosteroids remain the mainstay of therapy for noninfectious uveitis. In patients with sight-threatening disease, immunosuppressive or steroid-sparing agents are commonly employed. However, for individuals who are intolerant of or refractory to corticosteroids and
