OBJECTIVE: To compare clinical characteristics in children with enterovirus infections (EVI) and meningitis with detailed characteristics of the changes in the content of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) confirmed in the laboratory.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The results of examinations of 97 children, aged from 2.5 to 15 years, 3 adolescents and 1 adult female patient with EVI were analyzed. Enterovirus RNA isolation and detection in feces and CSF was performed using PCR.

OBJECTIVE: We reviewed cases of group B Streptococcus (GBS) sepsis in term infants at our institution to identify areas for potential prevention.
METHODS: We identified cases by searching our institution's microbiology databases for all positive GBS blood and cerebrospinal fluid cultures taken from infants between 2008 and 2013. Patients were included if the timing of the positive culture met the criteria for early-onset GBS disease (age 7 days or under). Charts that met inclusion criteria were abstracted for details related to antepartum screening, intrapartum care, and postpartum outcome.

Confirmed and probable cases of invasive Neisseria meningitidis (Nm) infection are reportable in New York City. Spinal arachnoiditis is a disease characterized by inflammation and scarring of the arachnoid membrane of the spinal cord. FDG PET/CT findings of spinal arachnoiditis have been rarely reported. METHODS: We analyzed multiple cause-of-death mortality data during 1999-2008 for the USA, using the 10th revision of International Classification of Diseases codes for encephalitis, listed anywhere on the death record, including 'specified' and 'unspecified' encephalitis.
