The present study was carried out in order to clarify the organization of the pontine projection from the inferior colliculus in the cat with the methods of Nauta27 and Fink and Heimer16 following lesions of different sizes and locations in the inferior colliculus. The inferior colliculus projects exclusively to the anterior two-thirds of the ipsilateral dorsolateral pontine nucleus. The majority of fibers originates from cells in the central nucleus and a small amount from cells in the external and the pericentral nuclei as well. Areas of the present projection largely overlap with areas of p

The distribution of labeled cells in the inferior olive of the cat has been mapped following injections of small amounts of horseradish perosidase in the paramedian lobule of the cerebellum. The distribution of labeled cells was plotted in drawings of approximately serial transverse sections. The findings in each case were transferred to a standard diagram of the olive to facilitate comparison of cases. Previous studies of the distribution of retrograde cell loss in the inferior olive following cerebellar lesions (Brodal, '40b) showed that fibers ending in the paramedian lobule come from the c

Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus, following inoculation of 4-day-old rats, produces an acute destructive but nonfatal necrosis of the cerebellum which is immunologically mediated. An ultrastructural study of the developing lesion indicated the following sequence of events: first, lymphocytic choriomengitis virions appear in the intercellular spaces of apparently normal neural parenchyma, followed shortly thereafter (5 days after infection) by adherence of monocytes to vascular endothelium with migration into tissue and morphologic transformation into activated macrophages, concomitant with n

In 13 cats and 5 dogs various parts of the frontal lobe were removed. As a result terminal degenerations in the rostral quarter of the insular claustrum were found by Nauta and Fink-Heimer II methods. In cats with motor cortex lesions, the degenerations were localized more dorsally than in cats with removals of the frontoorbital cortex, but there is a large overlap between degenerating areas of the claustrum in both groups of animals. In the dog it even seems possible to differentiate claustral regions in which axons from various gyri of the frontal lobe mainly terminate. It was found under th
