Ergonomic redesign of overhead crane cab seats based on anthropometric data of Iranian operators.

BackgroundOverhead crane operators are exposed to a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), partly due to poorly fitted cab seat designs that do not match operator anthropometry.ObjectiveThis study examined the mismatch between cab seat dimensions and the anthropometric characteristics of crane operators and proposed an ergonomic redesign to reduce MSD risks.MethodsSixty-four operators were evaluated using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) method during eight key tasks. Anthropometric measurements were compared with existing seat dimensions. A new seat was modelled in 3D MAX softwa

A Distal-Proximal Gradient of Hebbian Plasticity in the Human Arm.

UNLABELLED: Corticospinal-motoneuronal connections are more prominent in distal than proximal upper-limb muscles, but whether this anatomical specialization influences the capacity for activity-dependent plasticity remains unknown. Here, we tested whether Hebbian stimulation targeting corticospinal-motoneuronal connections, induces muscle-specific plasticity in proximal and distal arm muscles in healthy humans. We applied a spike-timing-dependent stimulation protocol comprising 180 paired stimuli, with transcranial magnetic stimulation timed to evoke corticospinal volleys 1-2 ms before motoneu

Neuromuscular and behavioural evidence of motor control adaptations following 8 weeks of virtual reality exergaming.

PURPOSE: Virtual reality (VR) exergaming was shown to enhance cognitive performance, yet its effects on neuromuscular function remain unclear. This study investigated whether chronic VR exergaming induces adaptations in neuromuscular coordination and speed-accuracy regulation. METHOD: Twenty-eight healthy young adults (22.8 ± 1.2 years; 9 women) completed an 8-week training programme (two 30-min sessions/week) consisting of either immersive VR exergaming (VR game with rapid and targeted, goal-directed upper-limb movements) or non-immersive video-guided coordination training with Arnis Stick (

Constancy of Sexual Dimorphism in the Infracranial Skeleton.

Sexual dimorphism in the human infracranial skeleton has been extensively studied, yet its structural organization across skeletal regions remains incompletely characterized at a global scale. Using a geographically diverse sample of 3177 individuals of known sex (1219 females; 1958 males) drawn from five documented skeletal collections, this study quantifies sexual dimorphism across 12 long bones measurements of the humerus, radius, femur, and tibia. Dimorphism indices (DS%), two-way ANOVAs with partial η2, Mahalanobis distances, Hedges' g, and D-index were computed to characterize the magnit

Acromial morphology in painful posterior shoulder instability: a case-control radiographic study.

BACKGROUND: Acromial morphology is a major contributor to posterior shoulder stability, notably in the sagittal plane. Painful posterior shoulder instability (P-PSI) is a rare form of posterior instability characterized by pain without a history of dislocation. The potential relationship between acromial morphology and P-PSI has yet to be studied. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that, as in other forms of PSI, patients with P-PSI would have more horizontally oriented and higher acromions. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was conducted on 27 patients who underwent surgery

Handball participation and bone mineral accrual during growth: A 1-year longitudinal controlled study in young male athletes.

Multidirectional sports such as handball may provide beneficial mechanical stimuli, but longitudinal evidence in male children remains limited. This study examined one-year differences in bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC), and bone area (BA) between male children engaged in regular handball practice and age-matched controls. This non-randomized longitudinal study included 72 healthy male children aged 10-12 years: handball group (HG, n = 36) and control group (CG, n = 36). Whole-body and regional bone outcomes were assessed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Between-g

A Rare Case of Cervical Spinal Arteriovenous Malformation in an Adolescent Presenting with Winged Scapula: A Rare Case Report.

Spinal arteriovenous malformations (SAVMs) are rare vascular lesions .They are basically anomalous connections between arteries and veins within the spinal canal and often result in progressive neurological deficits. Cervical intramedullary arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are uncommon, and their presentation with scapular winging is extremely rare. A 16-year-old right-handed male presented to us with a 3-month history of right shoulder pain, weakness, and limited overhead movements that initially started after lifting a heavy object. On examination, right scapular winging and serratus anter

Differences in the coordinative structure of object manipulation between 3- and 6-year-old children: kinematic analysis with markerless pose estimation.

Object manipulation is fundamental to daily activities and undergoes marked developmental changes during early childhood. This study examined differences in the coordinative structure of object manipulation during a bead-threading task in typically developing children aged 3 and 6 years. Participants were enrolled in a longitudinal follow-up study and consisted of 25 three-year-olds and 22 six-year-olds. Kinematic data were obtained from overhead video recordings and analyzed using markerless pose estimation. Joint angle time series of the upper limb and digits were extracted, and manipulation

Bilateral upper-limb palsy of the newborn infant: Taxonomy, differential diagnosis, and clinical pathways.

Bilateral reduction or absence of upper-limb movement in a newborn infant is a rare but critical presentation that cannot be anchored on the unilateral paradigm of brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI). Bilaterality substantially widens the differential to include cervical spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, and non-neurological movement limitation; thus, default attribution to bilateral BPBI risks missing a serious central pathology. No standardized terminology or investigation framework currently addresses this phenotype. This review introduces bilateral upper-limb palsy of the newbor

Digital three-dimensional planning combined with 3D-printed patient-specific guide-assisted step-cut osteotomy for correction of old cubitus varus deformity: a case report.

Cubitus varus is the most common long-term complication following supracondylar humeral fractures. Although traditional step-cut osteotomy yields reliable clinical outcomes, the intraoperative osteotomy direction and angle remain largely dependent on the surgeon's experience, resulting in suboptimal precision. Although digital three-dimensional (3D) planning and 3D-printed patient-specific guides have been shown to improve osteotomy accuracy, their application in adolescent patients with long-standing cubitus varus deformity has rarely been reported. We report an 18-year-old male patient who d

Cross-cultural adaptation and comparative psychometric evaluation of four patient-reported outcome measures for breast cancer-related lymphedema: measurement properties and clinical discrimination.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) can substantially impair health-related quality of life. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) may complement objective limb measurements by capturing symptoms, functional limitations, and psychosocial consequences; however, comparative evidence on BCRL-specific PROMs and validated Chinese versions remains limited. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt four BCRL-specific PROMs and compare their classical and Rasch measurement properties, known-groups validity, and exploratory discrimination relative to a circumference-based reference

Latissimus dorsi muscle transfer for reconstruction of traumatic deltoid deficiency: a report of two cases.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Traumatic deltoid muscle deficiency results in significant impairment of shoulder function despite preserved distal upper-limb mobility. The pedicled latissimus dorsi muscle transfer (LDT) is a promising reconstructive option; however, its application in traumatic deltoid loss remains underreported, particularly in resource-limited and conflict-affected settings. CASE PRESENTATION: We report two cases of traumatic deltoid deficiency managed with pedicled LDT. Case 1 involved a 23-year-old male with deltoid and supraspinatus avulsion following a projectile injury.

Effort-Related Upper Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis: A Case Series of Three Patients With Paget-Schröetter Syndrome Managed in Acute Care Settings.

Paget-Schröetter syndrome (PSS), also known as effort thrombosis, is a rare form of primary upper extremity deep vein thrombosis (UEDVT) caused by repetitive upper limb activity and/or venous thoracic outlet compression. Delayed recognition may result in pulmonary embolism, post-thrombotic syndrome, and chronic venous obstruction. We present three cases of effort-related UEDVT diagnosed in acute care settings with varying clinical presentations and management strategies. The first case involved a 78-year-old man who developed acute left upper limb swelling following prolonged gardening activit

Individual and Task-Specific Variability in Violin-Playing Kinematics Among Professional and Amateur Performers: A Pilot Motion-Capture Study.

Background Violin performance requires coordinated multi-joint and postural control, and performers may adopt different movement strategies. This pilot study primarily described participant-level heterogeneity and task-specific kinematic patterns in professional and amateur violinists, with secondary exploratory screening for nonoverlapping group ranges. Methods Six violinists (three professional and three amateur) were assessed using a 16-camera Vicon motion-capture system (Vicon Motion Systems Ltd., Oxford, UK) during a standardized phase using the same violin, bow, and shoulder rest. Dose-response effects of robot-assisted training on poststroke functional recovery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted training (RAT) is widely used in poststroke rehabilitation, but the relationship between training dose and functional recovery remains unclear. This review evaluated the effectiveness of RAT and examined dose-effect relationships. METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Embase were searched from inception to October 2025. Randomized controlled trials of adults with stroke comparing RAT or RAT combined with conventional rehabilitation (CR) were included. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, and analyses were performed us
