Iliofemoral Deep Vein Thrombosis Despite Repeatedly Negative D-Dimer Results.

A 75-year-old man presented with a three-week history of left lower-limb pain and repeatedly negative D-dimer results. Doppler ultrasonography ultimately revealed extensive iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This case highlights that a negative D-dimer result does not exclude subacute DVT and that clinical suspicion should prevail over biomarker findings.

High-speed electric-scooter crash causing a tibial spine fracture with physeal extension in an adolescent: a case report.

Tibial spine fractures are pediatric anterior cruciate ligament-equivalent avulsion injuries that can be radiographically subtle, leading to delayed or missed diagnosis. We report the case of a healthy 14-year-old girl who sustained a high-speed electric-scooter crash, landing on both knees in flexion. Initial radiographs obtained at a community hospital were interpreted as normal despite persistent pain, swelling, and complete functional impairment of the right lower limb. On re-evaluation, comparative anteroposterior and lateral radiographs revealed subtle elevation of the right tibial inter

Physical education-embedded fitness-oriented exercise interventions for youth physical fitness: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Physical fitness in children and adolescents is an important outcome of school health promotion. Previous reviews have often combined physical education, recess, after-school programmes, and whole-school strategies, making it difficult to determine whether embedded fitness-oriented content improves multidimensional physical fitness. This study evaluated the effects of physical education-embedded fitness-oriented exercise interventions on physical fitness in general populations of children and adolescents. METHODS: The initial systematic search was completed on March 11, 2026, in P

Effects of 4-Week Intervention Combining High-Definition Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Foot Core Exercise on Lower-Limb Joint Coordination Patterns and Variability.

Coordination patterns and variability are key components of motor control. This study aimed to examine the effects of a 4-week high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) combined with foot core exercise (FCE) on lower limb coordination patterns and variability during Y-balance test (YBT). Fifty-five healthy male participants were allocated to four groups by using randomization procedure (i.e., HD-tDCS + FCE, sham-tDCS + FCE, HD-tDCS, and FCE). Participants performed three YBT trials on the non-dominant (left) limb before and after a 4-week intervention (3 sessions/week,

CircGDI2 promotes the healing of diabetic wounds by mediating macrophage polarization through the SIRT2/TFAM axis.

Chronic non-healing diabetic wounds are a severe complication of diabetes, associated with markedly elevated rates of disability and lower limb amputation, and remain a major clinical therapeutic challenge due to their persistent pathological microenvironment. Alleviating the excessive chronic inflammatory response in diabetic wounds is a pivotal strategy to restore normal tissue repair and promote wound healing. In this study, we found that exosomes derived from hair follicle dermal stem cells (HFDSC-Exos) significantly increased the proportion of anti-inflammatory M2-polarized macrophages an

Passive ankle exoskeleton assistance selectively modulates triceps surae neural control during balance.

Wearable assistive devices have potential to improve human balance, but their effectiveness remains limited by an incomplete understanding of how mechanical assistance influences neuromuscular control. This study aimed to determine the neural adaptations in the control of lower leg muscles in response to passive ankle exoskeleton assistance during standing balance tasks with varying levels of difficulty. Lower limb kinematics and kinetics were recorded to assess changes in joint dynamics and balance performance. Neural drive to the muscles was assessed by decomposing high-density electromyogra

Are Asymmetry-Focused Training Interventions More Effective than General Programs in Reducing Interlimb Asymmetries and Improving Athletic Performance? A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Interlimb asymmetries (ILA) have been associated with an increased risk of injury and decreased athletic performance. However, despite the growing number of training interventions targeting ILA, their comparative effectiveness relative to general strength and conditioning approaches has not yet been systematically reviewed. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to compare the effectiveness of asymmetry-focused training interventions versus general training programs in reducing ILA and improving physical performance in athletic populations. Specifically, it sought to compare indi

An Evolutionary Perspective on Sports Nutrition: Strengths, Vulnerabilities, and Targeted Interventions in Homo sapiens.

The genus Homo is characterized by several anatomical and physiological traits that reflect millions of years of selection for sustained physical activity in hot environments. These adaptations include high capacity for sweating, metabolic substrate flexibility during low-intensity activity, and several morphological features of the lower limb and pelvis that facilitate energy-efficient locomotion. The present narrative review examines sports nutrition through an evolutionary lens by identifying the specific physiological strengths and vulnerabilities of Homo sapiens and assessing targeted nut

Assessment and characterization of back pain and biopsychosocial influences in lower limb amputation: scoping review.

Back pain affects over half of individuals with lower limb amputation, yet research findings on associated factors remain fragmented. In view of the evolution of pain science in the general population, this fragmentation likely stems from significant variability in the identification, characterization, and classification of pain, as well as inconsistent assessment of associated biopsychosocial factors. This scoping review aims to examine how back pain is currently identified, assessed, classified, and characterized in people with lower-limb amputation, to determine the gaps and inconsistencies
