Effects of sensorimotor training on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy-related outcomes in adults with cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of sensorimotor training (SMT)-based interventions on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) and related outcomes in adults with cancer. METHODS: Eleven bibliographic databases and two trial registries were searched from inception to 30 March 2026. Risk of bias was assessed for each outcome using RoB 2, and certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE. Meta-analyses used a random-effects model to pool post-intervention data as standardized mean differences (SMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: Eleven randomized controlled trials

The influence of visual restriction and lower-limb proprioception on walking capacity in children with and without upper motor neuron lesions.

BACKGROUND: Gait stability depends on the integration of visual and proprioceptive feedback. Children with upper motor neuron (UMN) lesions often exhibit proprioceptive deficits; however, the interaction between these deficits and visual input during walking remains unclear. This study investigated the influence of visual restriction and lower-limb proprioceptive function on walking capacity in children with UMN lesions compared to typically developing (TD) peers. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 42 children with UMN lesions and 49 TD peers completed the 10-Meter Walk Test under normal

Perturbed Gait Reveals Hierarchical Muscle Control: Reorganisation of Co-contraction Shares of Distal Muscles Amid Stable Global Synergies.

Adaptive gait control under external perturbations requires coordinated modulation of both local muscle activation and global muscular organisation. To capture these multi-level adaptations, this study integrates co-contraction share analysis, which characterises distributed muscle contributions beyond conventional antagonist-pair co-activation indices, with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) as an analytical framework for examining Electromyographic (EMG) responses to frontal-plane angular perturbations during overground walking. EMG signals are recorded from 10 subjects on distal and proxima

Association between the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism and skeletal muscle mass: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The ACTN3 R577X polymorphism is one of the genetic factors influencing skeletal muscle mass. Although several studies have reported that the X allele of the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism is associated with reduced muscle mass, others have found no significant relationship between genotype and muscle mass. These inconsistencies may be explained by differences in background characteristics of the study populations, such as sex, age, ethnicity, and measurement site. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to clarify the association between the ACTN3 R577X polymorphism and skeletal m

Supermicrosurgical perforator-to-perforator flap reconstruction for lower limb defects: a single-center case series.

Lower limb soft tissue defects remain a major reconstructive challenge due to frequent exposure of critical structures and compromised vascularity. In complex cases where local tissue is insufficient, free tissue transfer is required. Advances in supermicrosurgery have enabled perforator-to-perforator (P-to-P) anastomoses allowing reliable perfusion while preserving major axial vessels and minimizing donor-site morbidity. A retrospective review was conducted of five patients who underwent P-to-P free flap reconstruction for lower limb defects between January 2018 and January 2023. Preoperative

Robot-assisted vs. conventional gait training for balance and gait speed after stroke: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Balance and gait impairments are common disabling consequences of stroke and central targets of rehabilitation. Robot-assisted gait training (RAGT) can deliver repetitive, task-specific, and quantifiable walking practice, yet its comparative effectiveness over conventional gait-oriented training remains uncertain. METHODS: We searched 8 English- and Chinese-language databases from inception through June 2, 2026 for randomized controlled trials comparing lower-limb RAGT with conventional therapeutic training after stroke. Primary outcomes were balance, assessed with the Berg Balanc

Phase-specific neuromechanical signatures of 40-m sprint performance: an integrated two-dimensional kinematic and surface electromyographic profiling study.

BACKGROUND: Sprint performance reflects coordinated mechanical and neuromuscular behavior across distinct sprint phases. This study identified phase-specific neuromechanical signatures of 40-m sprint performance and tested whether integrated kinematic and electromyographic information added predictive value beyond direct spatiotemporal determinants of running velocity. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 160 young adults classified as sprint-trained athletes or physically active non-sprinters completed three maximal 40-m sprints. Split times were recorded every 10 m. Four synchronized hig

Case Report: persistent diaphragmatic and cardiac involvement despite creatine kinase normalization in anti-mitochondrial M2 antibody-positive inflammatory myopathy with primary biliary cholangitis.

Anti-mitochondrial M2 antibodies (AMA-M2) are a serologic hallmark of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), but in inflammatory myopathy they have also been associated with chronic muscle disease, cardiac involvement, and respiratory muscle weakness. We report a 44-year-old woman who developed progressive proximal lower-limb weakness followed by palpitations, exertional dyspnea, and severe hypercapnic respiratory failure. Serum creatine kinase (CK) was only moderately elevated (peak, 789 U/L). AMA-M2 remained strongly positive with anti-gp210 and anti-sp100 antibodies. Low-level anti-HMGCR IgG wa

Facial pruritus and stiffness as the initial manifestations of glycine receptor antibody-positive progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity and myoclonus: a case report and literature review.

Progressive encephalomyelitis with rigidity and myoclonus (PERM) is a rare and severe phenotype within stiff-person spectrum disorders (SPSD), frequently associated with glycine receptor antibodies (GlyR-Ab). Because typical rigidity and stimulus-sensitive spasms may be absent at disease onset, early diagnosis can be challenging. We report a 52-year-old man who presented with facial pruritus, facial stiffness, limited tongue protrusion, dysphagia, and left lower-limb pain. Early manifestations included diplopia, restricted extraocular movements, dysarthria, restricted mouth opening, involuntar

Femoral neck fractures in patients with prior lower-limb amputation: a two-case series and narrative review of surgical decision-making.

BACKGROUND: Femoral neck fractures in patients with pre-existing lower-limb amputation are rare clinical conditions that pose unique technical challenges and surgical decision-making dilemmas for orthopedic surgeons. Altered hip biomechanics, reduced bone mineral density, and dependence on prosthetic ambulation complicate preoperative planning and postoperative rehabilitation, and no unified therapeutic consensus has been established in clinical practice ( 1- 5). CASE PRESENTATION: We report two distinct clinical cases of femoral neck fractures in amputees managed with different surgical stra

Biomechanical and movement-quality predictors of lower-limb load-related injury in collegiate athletes: a prospective cohort study using functional movement screening, wearable inertial sensing, and explainable machine learning.

Lower-limb load-related injuries account for a disproportionate share of time loss in collegiate sport, yet the biomechanical and movement-quality factors distinguishing injured from uninjured athletes remain incompletely characterized. This prospective cohort study followed 161 collegiate athletes for one competitive season, integrating Functional Movement Screen task-level scores with wearable inertial measurement unit-derived features - including peak tibial acceleration asymmetry, surrogate vertical loading rate, and pelvis-trunk stability indices - within an explainable machine learning f
