Taohong Siwu Decoction-Based Targeted Drug Penetration Therapy for Deep Vein Thrombosis After Hip Fracture Surgery: A Retrospective Study.

Postoperative lower limb deep vein thrombosis (DVT) remains a common complication after hip fracture surgery, and complementary strategies targeting coagulation, inflammation, and venous circulation may provide additional preventive benefits. This retrospective cohort study included 86 patients who underwent hip fracture surgery between June 2023 and June 2024. Patients were assigned to a control group (n = 43), receiving standard low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) prophylaxis, or an observation group (n = 43), receiving additional Taohong Siwu Decoction-based targeted drug penetration therap

Comparison of non-invasive neuromodulation for motor function rehabilitation in incomplete spinal cord injury: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (SCI) disrupts structural and functional connectivity between the brain and spinal cord, resulting in severe motor dysfunction. Various neuromodulation techniques have been applied in SCI rehabilitation and have promoted motor recovery to varying degrees. A Bayesian network meta-analysis was therefore undertaken to compare and rank the relative effects of non-invasive neuromodulation techniques on motor-related outcomes in adults with incomplete SCI. METHODS: PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and The Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials

Dizziness, Lower Limb Weakness, and Falls in COPD: A Prospective Longitudinal Pilot Study Using Monthly Home Diaries.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Falls affect approximately half of individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and are associated with hospitalization, accelerated functional decline, and early institutionalization. Existing evidence suggests that single-visit assessments have limited and inconsistent ability to predict the future falls in individuals with COPD, highlighting the need for alternative longitudinal approaches. To our knowledge, this is the first prospective study to explore the longitudinal association between diary-recorded symptoms and falls in COPD. METHODS: Prospec

Bilateral Long-Lasting Changes in Multimodal Sensitivity After Cutaneous High-Frequency Electrical Stimulation: A New Comprehensive Dermatomal Examination.

Background/Objectives: Little is known about long-term changes in sensitivity and pain following cutaneous 100 Hz high-frequency stimulation (HFS) in humans. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate long-lasting changes in multimodal sensitivity after HFS using a comprehensive systematic dermatomal examination, including two innovative protocols, and to identify common factors associated with these changes. Methods: Long-lasting changes were assessed with thermal and mechanical bedside and quantitative sensory testing at the homotopic (ipsilateral C6 or L4 dermatomes), adjacent heterotop

Effects of individualized blood flow restriction during brief twice-weekly low-load cycling on mobility and muscle function in adults older than 70 years.

INTRODUCTION: Age-related declines in muscle strength and physical function increase the risk of mobility limitations, disability, and loss of independence. Although resistance training is effective, many older adults are unable or unwilling to perform high-load exercise, highlighting the need for time-efficient, low-load interventions that preserve physical function. Blood flow restriction (BFR) training may enhance adaptations to low-load exercise, but whether a brief, clinically feasible endurance-based BFR intervention can induce clinically meaningful improvements in mobility remains uncle

A simple maximum intensity projection method for measuring proximal femoral anteversion: An observer reliability study.

PURPOSE: Quantifying femoral neck anteversion (FNA) is essential in lower limb torsional deformities. Because of proximal femur anatomy and computed tomography (CT) acquisition, the femoral head and neck are often visualized on different slices, making identification of the femoral-head-neck axis (FHNA) challenging. This study introduces a new method based on the maximum intensity projection (MIP) function available in most DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) viewers. By increasing the thickness of the bone segment displayed on a single two-dimensional image, MIP allows simu

Patient-reported propagated sensation along meridians during acupuncture for lumbar disc herniation: protocol for an exploratory prospective cohort study with multimodal neurophysiological and immune measurements.

BACKGROUND: Propagated sensation along meridians (PSM) refers to the radiation of needling sensation beyond the needling site along meridian pathways. In traditional acupuncture theory, PSM has long been considered an important factor associated with clinical efficacy, particularly in conditions like lumbar disc herniation where pain radiates along the lower limb. However, this phenomenon has not been well characterized by modern neurobiological methods. Whether patients who report PSM show distinct autonomic, sensory, or motor responses, and whether this relates to better outcomes, remains un

Stenosis of a novel frozen elephant trunk in a patient with chronic dissection.

A partial elephant trunk (PET), a new type of frozen elephant trunk, was designed to prevent distal stent graft-induced new entry using a thinner nitinol wire with less radial force. We report a case of PET stenosis in chronic dissection. Total arch replacement was performed using a PET. After weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass, the lower-limb blood pressure decreased to 90% of the upper-limb blood pressure. Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography revealed incomplete PET expansion, and on postoperative day 1, the lower-to-upper body blood pressure ratio further decreased to 70% due to

Beyond Deep Vein Thrombosis: Early Recognition of Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens With Arterial Inflow Compromise and Concomitant Pulmonary Embolism.

Phlegmasia cerulea dolens (PCD) is a rare and severe complication of extensive deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that can rapidly progress to limb ischemia, venous gangrene, and death. Early recognition and restoration of venous outflow are, therefore, critical. We report the case of a 48-year-old man who presented with a three-day history of progressive left lower-limb swelling, pain, and bluish discoloration. Examination revealed tense swelling of the entire limb, delayed capillary refill, and a diminished dorsalis pedis pulse. Duplex ultrasonography demonstrated extensive left iliofemoral and popl

Precision of AI-Based Lower Limb Assessment in Children and Adolescents with Open Growth Plates.

Background/Objectives: X-rays are the most reliable and widely available imaging modality for diagnosing deformities of the lower extremities in paediatric orthopaedic patients. This raises the question of whether AI-generated analysis of key parameters is comparable to manual measurement. Methods: This retrospective, single-center observational study included patients with radiographically confirmed open growth plates at a Level One university hospital in Germany between 2005 and 2022. Using the quality criteria (full-leg weight-bearing radiograph with the patella centered, showing both legs

Hybrid surgical thromboembolectomy and crossover endovascular revascularization for acute lower-limb ischemia in a patient with active ovarian cancer receiving a PARP inhibitor (fuzuloparib): a case report and literature review.

Acute limb ischemia (ALI) is both limb- and life-threatening, and represents a vascular emergency. Malignancy produces a systemic hypercoagulable state that predisposes to arterial as well as venous thrombosis, and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors-now central to maintenance therapy in ovarian cancer-have, in aggregate randomized data, been associated with only a borderline venous signal and no clearly demonstrated independent arterial signal. We report a 60-year-old woman with active high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma maintained on oral fuzuloparib who presented with Rutherford c
