A Comparative Study of Intrathecal Hyperbaric Bupivacaine With Fentanyl Versus Intrathecal Hyperbaric Bupivacaine With Dexmedetomidine Administered Sequentially for Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgeries: A Prospective Randomised Double-Blind Study.

BACKGROUND: The subarachnoid block is the predominant and relatively safe approach during lower limb orthopaedic operations. When used as an additive to intrathecal local anaesthetic, both fentanyl and dexmedetomidine can extend the duration of sensory and motor blockade and improve postoperative analgesia. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study is to assess and compare the efficacy of sequential administration of fentanyl and dexmedetomidine alongside 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine intrathecally in lower limb orthopaedic surgeries, focussing on block characteristics, postoperative analgesia as

Possible protective effect of quercetin on lung injury induced by skeletal muscle ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury of adult male albino rats: Histological and biochemical study.

When a lower limb is injured, the most delicate organs that are at risk of harm are the lungs. Among the flavonoids, quercetin is a significant component that is found in apples and onions in the highest proportions. Numerous biological actions, including as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties, have been linked to quercetin. To investigate the impact of quercetin on lung injury induced by skeletal muscle ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury. Three equal groups of twenty-four adult rats were used: control, Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) group and IR group treated with quercetin. R

Vasculature of older females shows heterogeneity in the association between cardiovascular risk and vascular function.

Although affecting both sexes, loss of sex hormones and consequently increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) render particular features to vascular aging in females. More importantly, although the female's vasculature is more sensitive to CVD risk factors, CVD is often underdiagnosed in women. In the present study, we investigated vascular function in the arm and leg skeletal muscle microvasculature and conduit artery in young and older females. We also applied a mixed-effect regression analysis to examine the relationship between vascular function and CVD risk factors in women. We sho

Biomechanical responses following compelled forward versus backward body shift: How aging and perturbation direction alter balance recovery?

Falls are a significant health risk in older adults, and forward and backward falls each account for more than 40 % of falls. Dynamic stability, limb support, and impact energy absorption are crucial balance regulatory components and likely vary with the direction of imbalance. Understanding how perturbation direction influences these key components of balance stability regulation is crucial. This study investigated the balance stability, lower limb impact energy absorption, and limb support in forward and backward directions of balance perturbations in younger versus older adults. Thirteen he
