BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer is a biologically heterogeneous disease with variable patterns of lymph node (LN) metastasis influenced by tumour biology and anatomical location. Contemporary Western data on LN dissemination remain limited.
METHODS: This retrospective multicentre study evaluated data from patients with resectable gastric adenocarcinoma who underwent curative-intent gastrectomy at five high-volume European centres. LN retrieval and metastatic involvement were analysed according to tumour location, Lauren histotype, pathological (p) stage, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and microsatellit

Multiple primary malignancies are uncommon, with the coexistence of cervicofacial squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) being exceptionally rare. To our knowledge, very few cases describing concurrent SCC and HCC have been reported. This report describes the incidental cadaveric discovery of advanced SCC and HCC in the same individual and correlates gross anatomical findings with histopathologic evaluation. During a routine cadaveric dissection at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine, a 64-year-old male cadaver was found to have extensive patholog

A 33-year-old woman presented with intermittent fever for 1 month, accompanied by pancytopenia and multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the bilateral neck, axillary and para-iliac regions on ultrasound. With informed consent, the patient was enrolled in a clinical trial comparing 18F-FDG and 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT for lymph node lesions. In contrast to the negative 18F-FDG PET/CT findings, 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT showed high tracer uptake in these lymph nodes. Subsequent cervical lymph node excision biopsy revealed reactive lymphoid hyperplasia; combined with elevated anti-ds-DNA, anti-SS-A, and an

INTRODUCTION: Monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma (MEITL) is a rare extranodal lymphoma, accounting for <1% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas, which most commonly affects Asians. MEITL mainly occurs in the small intestine and is characterized by an aggressive clinical course with a poor prognosis. MEITL shows intractable symptoms and frequently causes perforation and bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract. Bowel perforation and/or bleeding often require emergency surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Primary melanoma of the lung (PML) is exceedingly rare, accounting for approximately 0.01% of lung cancers. Because cutaneous melanoma may undergo spontaneous regression, a solitary pulmonary melanoma may represent either a true primary lesion or a metastasis from an occult regressed cutaneous primary. Therefore, rigorous exclusion of extrapulmonary primary sites is essential. PML is generally associated with a poor prognosis, and its biology and optimal management remain incompletely defined. Here, we report a case of PML with early systemic relapse after curative resection and

Endobronchial spindle cell tumors are rare pulmonary neoplasms that may arise from peripheral nerve sheath elements such as schwannoma or neurofibroma. We report a 69-year-old nonsmoking female from a hilly region presenting with progressive breathlessness for 3 months. She had a significant environmental exposure history of 45 years to biomass fuel combustion from bonfires and fireplace use for cooking and heating. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed atelectasis with microcalcification in the lateral segment of the right middle lobe and extensive mediastinal lymphadenopathy. F

BACKGROUND: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma that rarely occurs in the gastrointestinal tract. To date, fewer than ten cases of primary colonic MPNST have been reported, and this case may represent the first case report of an MPNST arising in the ileocecal region.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 62-year-old male patient presented with right lower abdominal pain for two days. A firm, fixed mass approximately 10 cm in diameter was palpable in his right lower abdomen. Auxiliary examinations including abdominal CT and colonoscopy revealed various f

Solitary plasmacytoma is a localized form of plasma cell neoplasm and is important to differentiate from multiple myeloma (MM) using clinical assessment, imaging, and bone marrow evaluation. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) develops from soft tissue and is a rare occurrence, although a large proportion of cases are in the head and neck. We describe a 59-year-old man who presented with a progressively enlarging left-sided neck mass. Imaging revealed a lesion in the left tongue base and supraclavicular and cervical lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the left tongue base lesion revealed mature plasma ce

Axillary Lymph Nodes (ALNs) can be affected by breast cancer, and the number of affected ALNs is a determinant factor in breast cancer staging. Microwave imaging (MWI) has emerged as a promising technique for ALN assessment, addressing limitations in conventional imaging modalities. This study investigates, for the first time, the classification of ALNs and axillary regions from microwave signals, without image reconstruction. Classification is performed considering realistic morphological characteristics of ALNs reported in the literature and is based solely on geometric differences, which di

A 76-year-old woman with a history of ovarian cancer underwent 18 F-FDG PET/CT due to increased CA199 levels in routine surveillance. PET/CT demonstrated multiple hypermetabolic lesions in the spleen, as well as reactive changes of hypermetabolic lymph nodes in the mediastinal and bilateral hilar region. Histopathologic examination of the splenectomy specimen confirmed granulomatous lesions, which can be easily misinterpreted as metastases.

We report the case of a 19-year-old male patient with recurrent fever and multiple sterile abscesses involving lymph nodes, subcutaneous tissue, and joints, associated with a congenital cardiac anomaly. The patient presented with persistent febrile episodes and systemic inflammation despite broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. Imaging revealed disseminated lymphadenopathy and abscesses in cervical, subpectoral, mesenteric, and articular regions. Extensive microbiologic and serologic workup, including bacterial, mycobacterial, and viral testing, remained negative. Histopathology showed necrotisin

Lipoplastic lymphadenopathy is an uncommon benign condition characterized by fatty replacement of lymphoid tissue with reactive hyperplasia, which can mimic malignant or granulomatous disease on imaging. We report a 25-year-old female presenting with a gradually enlarging posterior cervical swelling and low-grade fever. Ultrasound demonstrated multiple enlarged cervical lymph nodes with loss of the normal fatty hilum and heterogeneous features suggestive of malignancy, prompting excisional biopsy. Histopathological analysis revealed reactive follicles with fat metaplasia without evidence of ma

Tissues are highly ordered structures, with cellular localization essential to the optimal function of the tissue. In lymph nodes the spatial arrangement of immune cells and their associated with stromal cell architecture is essential for the generation of optimal immune responses. Circumstances such as aging and chronic disease can alter lymph node architecture in a manner that impacts immune function. Immunologists have developed many tools for analyzing the cellular content of lymphoid tissue, with flow cytometry a central workhorse in the field. While flow cytometry is a powerful high-thro

Peripheral lymphoid organs in mammals are highly organized, complex tissues that support adaptive immune responses. In terms of comparative developmental biology, the mobile leukocytes of shared hematopoietic lineages in the spleen, lymph nodes, and mucosal lymphoid tissues perform similar functions during antigen recognition and intercellular communication, indicating them as largely homologous. However, the sessile stromal elements within these tissues that create preferential lodging domains for leukocytes differ considerably in their developmental features and structural organization, appe

BACKGROUND: Tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBL) is a common manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). However, establishing a definitive diagnosis can be challenging, particularly in primary healthcare settings, when the clinical presentation is atypical or when TBL coexists with another rare form of EPTB-thyroid tuberculosis (TB). Whether primary or secondary, TB remains an exceedingly uncommon clinical entity, even in the context of the persistently high overall prevalence of tuberculosis in China. Thyroid tuberculosis accounts for approximately 0.1%-0.4% of all thyroid diseases, with

A mouse lymph node develops inside of five lymph sacs in the trunk. However, there are uninvestigated, numerous peripheral nodes. We chose histological sections from 38 human fetuses at approximately 8-31 weeks of gestational age (36 to 260 mm of crown-rump length). Three sites of the extremity and seven sites of the trunk were examined. Lymphocyte aggregations developed within the jugular, para-aortic and iliac lymph sacs by 10 weeks. The aggregation lost lymph endothelia at the lumen side and, in the external side, it was attached to the surrounding mesenchymal tissue. Shortly thereafter, in

Scrotal Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a rare cutaneous adenocarcinoma commonly confined to the intraepidermal region, with potential for dermal invasion and metastasis. This report describes a rare case of metastatic scrotal EMPD with bone-marrow involvement. The patient presented with localized pruritic scrotal lesions accompanied by systemic symptoms resulting from distant metastases to the lymph nodes and multiple bones, as well as compromised hematopoiesis caused by tumor cell infiltration of bone marrow. The diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination of biopsy speci

An 81-year-old man with a history of multiple skin cancers presented with a change to a longstanding lesion. Biopsy confirmed microcystic adnexal carcinoma. The lesion was excised with clear margins. Over the course of 5 years, the tumor recurred four times in the periorbital and orbital area. Histopathology showed progressively poorer differentiation, with increasing mitotic activity and decreasing ductular differentiation. Next-generation sequencing testing demonstrated a Tier III variant of unknown significance in ARID1A and was otherwise negative for gene mutations and fusions in a panel o

Background and Clinical Significance: Cervical lymphadenopathy with an occult primary tumor represents a common yet diagnostically challenging clinical scenario in head and neck oncology. While endoscopic evaluation is typically relied upon for tumor localization, submucosal lesions may remain undetected. Case Presentation: We report a 41-year-old woman presenting with an isolated right level II neck mass without constitutional symptoms. Initial fiberscopic examination revealed no mucosal abnormalities; however, contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated asymmetric enlargement of the r
