BACKGROUND: Haematolymphoid lesions in serous effusion, cerebrospinal, and vitreous fluid are encountered regularly. In the paediatric clinical setting, haematolymphoid lesions are the most common cause of malignant serous effusions. Cytologists and cytopathologists should be prepared to evaluate such samples as part of routine diagnostic practice. Primary breast lymphoma (PBL) accounts for a small fraction of breast malignancies and is uncommon in young adults, yet it can lead to significant complications. This report describes a case of PBL in a young female patient. An 18-year-old female presented with a mass in the right breast with fever and sweating. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in blood is associated with many diseases, though most often it is not linked to any disease. EBV DNA can be measured in whole blood, PBMCs, serum, or plasma. Using the most sensitive assays, viral DNA can be detected in PBMCs in nearly all individuals who have been infected. The phase 1/2 Intergroup study E4412 investigated checkpoint blockade with nivolumab (Nivo) and ipilimumab (Ipi) combined with the CD30 targeting antibody-drug conjugate brentuximab vedotin (BV) in relapsed/refractory classic Hodgkin lymphoma. Despite continued advances, survival among patients with Hodgkin lymphoma differs by age, race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, insurance, and treatment location. Inequities are evident across the cancer care continuum, from timely diagnosis and treatment initiation and clinical trial access, to posttreatment survivorship care.
