"Sandwich" protocol based on modified SMILE regimen for children with newly extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type: a single-arm, single-center clinical study.

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL), which is a rare form of mature T/NK cell lymphoma in children, currently lacks a standardized first-line treatment approach. However, a treatment protocol known as the "sandwich" regimen has been used in children newly diagnosed with ENKTL. This protocol combines the administration of methotrexate, ifosfamide, etoposide, pegaspargase, and dexamethasone (referred to as SMILE) with the addition of radiotherapy (RT). From September 2017 to December 2020, a total of five patients were included in the study, consisting of three males and two female

Peripheral T cell lymphoma of the nasopharynx with expansion of EBV-positive B cells masquerading as an extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type.

Epstein-Barr virus-infected B cells are found at high frequency in peripheral T cell lymphoma. Herein, we report a case involving excessive EBV-positive B cells accompanying peripheral T cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified in the nasopharynx masquerading as nasopharyngeal extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma. A large number of Epstein-Barr virus-infected B cells infiltrate in between CD3-positive cytotoxic tumor T cells, as if EBV was infecting tumor T cells. After chemotherapy, the T cell lymphoma population decreased, but the B cell population expanded to form EBV-positive diffuse large B cell l

Methods for confirming the safety of radiation therapy in patients with left ventricular assist device: a case of extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type.

A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a treatment option for patients with end-stage heart failure; however, a certain number of patients on durable LVADs are diagnosed with malignancy. Radiation therapy (RT) for patients with durable LVADs has safety concerns, because RT may interfere with the device. Herein, we report a case of RT during durable LVAD management. A 48-year-old man with a durable LVAD was diagnosed with sinusitis. As his symptoms were resistant to drug therapy, endoscopic sinus surgery was performed, and extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) was pathologically

EBV associated T- and NK-cell lymphoproliferative diseases: A comprehensive overview of clinical manifestations and novel therapeutic insights.

EBV is a ubiquitous virus that infects nearly all people around the world. Most infected people are asymptomatic and do not show serious sequelae, while others may develop Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive T and NK-cell lymphoproliferations characterised by EBV-infected T or NK cells. These disorders are more common in Asian and Latin American people, suggesting genetic predisposition as a contributing factor. The revised WHO classification classifies the lymphoproliferative diseases as: extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma nasal type (ENKTL), aggressive NK-cell leukemia (ANKL), primary EBV-positive

Long-term outcomes and central nervous system relapse in extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma.

To elucidate the long-term outcomes of non-anthracycline-containing therapies and central nervous system (CNS) events in patients with extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL), the clinical data of 313 patients with ENKTL diagnosed between 2000 and 2013 in a nationwide retrospective study in Japan were updated and analyzed. At a median follow-up of 8.4 years, the 5-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were 71% and 64%, respectively, in 140 localized ENKTL patients who received radiotherapy-dexamethasone, etoposide, ifosfamide, and carboplatin (RT-DeVIC) in cl

Analysis of the Clinicopathologic Characteristics and Prognosis of Head and Neck Lymphoma.

Statistical reports on non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) of the head and neck combining clinical medicine with pathology are rare. To provide a basis for prognosis prediction and individualized treatment, we will investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of lymphoma in the head and neck region. Four hundred sixty-one patients with NHL in the head and neck region diagnosed through histological biopsy were retrospectively analyzed. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were performed in all cases to evaluate the genetic status and protein expre

CD3-and CD20-negative extramedullary non-Hodgkin leukemia/lymphoma: a histopathological study of 118 cases.

Histopathological diagnoses are challenging for rare CD3-and CD20-negative extramedullary leukemias/lymphomas. We report 118 cases of CD3- CD20-extramedullary leukemias/lymphomas (2.4% of 4977 cases). CD45 was positive in 68% of cases. Forty-nine (41%) cases were anaplastic large cell lymphomas. Thirty-five (30%) cases were large B-cell lymphomas/plasmablastic lymphomas positive for at least one of the following markers: CD79a, PAX5, CD19, CD138, and MUM1. Nine (8%) cases were peripheral T/NK-cell lymphomas, where at least CD43, CD45RO, or cytotoxic molecules were positive; 4, 3, and 2 cases w

[Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type with local recurrence in the contralateral nasal cavity 15 years after initial sequential chemoradiotherapy].

A 72-year-old woman was diagnosed with extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma of the right nasal cavity and received sequential radiochemotherapy comprising focal radiotherapy and THP-COP chemotherapy. Showed a complete tumor response to the treatment; however, the tumor recurred in the contralateral right nasal cavity 15 years after the initial treatment. This was judged to be a marginal recurrence in the radiation field. After four cycles of dexamethasone, methotrexate, ifosfamide, L-asparaginase, and etoposide (SMILE) chemotherapy, a second complete response was achieved. It is possible that another

Recurrence 14 Years After Initial Treatment of Extranodal NK/T Cell Lymphoma, Nasal Type.

Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKL) primarily involves the nasal cavity. Although patients might visit an otorhinolaryngologist with nasal symptoms, such as nasal obstruction and epistaxis, it would be difficult to make a diagnosis correctly. We present a case of ENKL in which the patient had been in remission after initial treatment and relapsed 14 years after treatment. The patient had a worsening of nasal symptoms before the recurrence, but on this occasion, treatment such as sinusitis was successful in alleviating the symptoms. Although recurrence of lymphoma 10 years after tr

NK- and T-cell lymphoma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses in Denmark 1980-2017: a nationwide cohort study.

Compared to Asian and Latin American populations, sinonasal NK- or T-cell lymphoma is rare in Europe. All patients with sinonasal NK- or T-cell lymphoma in Denmark from 1980 to 2017 were validated histologically, and the disease behavior and demographics were extracted from medical records and national registries. Prognostic factors associated with mortality were determined using survival statistics. We included 56 patients: 40 extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (nasal type) (ENKTCL) and 16 peripheral T-cell lymphoma (not otherwise specified) (PTCL). The median age was 66, and most patients were ma

Nonhealing Ulcers with Rimming of the Adipose Tissues.

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTCL-NT) is a rare condition which has a very aggressive clinical outcome. The most common and typical presentation is the destructive tumor involving the nasal cavity or nasopharynx, referred to as lethal midline granuloma, while cutaneous involvement is found to be the second most involved site. In this report, we describe a case of an otherwise healthy 40-year-old female solely presenting with ulcerative plaques and subcutaneous nodules on her lower extremities. Although the rimming of adipocytes by atypical lymphocytes, which resembles subcutane

Surface CD3-negative monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma.

Intestinal T/NK-cell lymphomas include enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL), monomorphic epitheliotropic intestinal T-cell lymphoma (MEITL), indolent T-cell lymphoproliferative disorders of the GI tract (ITCLPD), extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL), and intestinal T-cell lymphoma NOS (ITCL-NOS). Here we describe a case of surface CD3-negative MEITL. A 63-year-old Japanese female had a tumor located in the conglomerated ileum, which formed multiple mass lesions. The resected tissue showed a diffuse infiltration of monomorphic medium-sized lymphocytes with epitheliotropism

Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma nasal type.

Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma nasal type (ENKL) is a rare neoplasm uncommon in the US. Diagnosis is complicated by low incidence and rapid tissue necrosis preventing timely histologic confirmation. We report the case of a 55-year-old woman with ENKL who faced a challenging diagnostic workup due to widespread nasal tissue necrosis and nonspecific sinus-related complaints. While ENKL is significantly more common in Asia and South America, clinicians worldwide should maintain a high level of suspicion for patients presenting with nonspecific nasopharyngeal complaints who have signs of

Ptosis, facial numbness and parotid gland mass as the first symptoms of an extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type.

We present a case of a patient visiting the ear, nose and throat department with a parotid gland mass, ptosis and facial numbness. CT imaging confirmed a mass in the parotid gland; however, it also revealed a mass in the left maxillary sinus. MRI, positron emission tomography combined with CT and nasal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of a extranodal natural killer/T cell lymphoma, nasal type. Because this is a rare clinical entity in Western society, patients are typically diagnosed in an advanced stage; symptoms resemble chronic rhinosinusitis and histopathological analysis is challenging. Primary small intestinal extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type with kidney involvement: a rare case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Extranodal NK/T cell lymphoma, nasal type (EN-NK/T-NT) is a rare and aggressive type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. EN-NK/T-NT seldom occurs in the gastrointestinal tract, and renal involvement is relatively rare. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we report a case of primary small intestinal EN-NK/T-NT with kidney involvement. We present the case of a 71-year-old female who was admitted to our hospital for coronary heart disease with a fever of unknown origin. Laboratory examination showed renal impairment and PET/CT showed a locally thickened wall of the small intestine, abnormally increased F
