A 63 year old patient came to admission because of abdominal pain. A stone disease of the gallbladder was known. Gastroscopy showed active gastritis of the antral-mucosa with some erosive lesions. Histology revealed surprisingly a low grade MALT lymphoma. Helicobacter pylori colonization (H. pylori) was found in the mucosa. Two monoclonal antibodies (FB1 and FB21) reactive in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections are reported in this paper. FB1 and FB21 recognize a cytoplasmic antigen and a surface antigen of B cells, respectively. Histological subtyping of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas is of prognostic significance. Current classification systems subdivide them into low-, intermediate-, and high-grade malignancies. Two recently described monoclonal antibodies, UCL3D3 and UCL4D12, have been reported to have some specificity for mantle zone B lymphocytes and marginal zone/follicular center B lymphocytes, respectively, in the spleen. Primary extranodal malignant lymphomas are most often localized in the stomach. In contrast to gastric carcinomas, primary gastric non-Hodgkin's lymphomas show an increasing incidence. Immunohistochemical expression of PRAD1/cyclin D1 protein has been investigated in 106 tissue specimens of 104 cases of lymphoma, non-neoplastic lymphoid disorders and other hematologic malignancies by employing the monoclonal antibody 5D4 with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections, using the microwave oven heating method.
