Plasmacytoma of the Cervix Possibly Caused by Neglected Pessary: A Case Report and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Plasmacytoma is a rare plasma cell dyscrasia marked by localized monoclonal plasma cell proliferation, distinct from multiple myeloma by its lack of systemic symptoms. Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP), the rarest form, typically occurs in the upper respiratory tract. Cervical involvement is rare. Chronic inflammation may play a role in the development of cervical plasmacytoma, though this remains unproven for cervical cases. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a unique case of a 74-year-old woman who presented with vaginal bleeding linked to a neglected pessary inserted 15

Case Report: Molecular and immunological insights into primary extramedullary plasmacytoma: discovery of a novel IGH::NFKB1 fusion and its impact on disease progression and treatment.

Extramedullary Plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell neoplasm that originates outside the bone marrow. Primary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma with Diffuse Lymph Node Involvement (PLNEMP) is exceptionally rare. Here, we report a unique case of PLNEMP and significant bone destruction, characterized by a novel IGH::NFKB1 fusion gene. A 60-year-old Chinese male presented with palpable enlarged lymph nodes in the left inguinal region. After completing laboratory tests and examinations, it was suggested that there was monoclonal immunoglobulinemia and multiple bone destruction. Pathological examinat

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the tibial nerve: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary plasmacytomas (EMPs) are rare plasma cell tumors forming outside the bone marrow. EMPs spread to soft tissues with a predilection for the head and neck region. Therefore, EMPs are rarely included in the differential for peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNSTs). The authors discuss a case of tibial nerve sheath invasion by an EMP in the context of multiple myeloma (MM). OBSERVATIONS: A 70-year-old female with MM presented with right leg pain and a suspected PNST of the tibial nerve. Imaging revealed a T1-hypointense lesion in the popliteal fossa. Resection was attempte

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the small intestine and mesentery: A rare case report.

INTRODUCTION: Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell disorder that can occasionally involve the gastrointestinal tract, though involvement of the small intestine and mesentery is very uncommon. Diagnosis is challenging as patient presentation is variable with pain, obstruction, or bleeding, and imaging cannot differentiate between other malignancies. Diagnosis is not achieved until histopathological analysis of the resected mass. Treatment and prognosis depend on finding of primary EMP or secondary EMP in the setting of multiple myeloma. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of

Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder following Heart Transplantation Presenting as a Retroperitoneal Plasmacytoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

INTRODUCTION: Plasma cell neoplasms (PCNs) are a rare type of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD). Extramedullary plasmacytoma is a rare type of PCN, and is infrequently located in the retroperitoneum. According to the current literature, heart transplant recipients are considered at intermediate risk for developing PTLD. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a 70-year-old patient with a history of heart transplantation, who was admitted to the hospital with back pain and swelling of the left lower limb. Imaging revealed a large retroperitoneal mass involving the left kidney,

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the Gingiva: A rare case report and clinical management.

Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) of the gingiva is an exceptionally rare plasma cell neoplasm, posing significant diagnostic challenges due to its nonspecific clinical presentation and low incidence. This case report details a 67-year-old male presenting with a painless right maxillary gingival mass, initially mimicking benign hyperplasia. Diagnostic workup, including cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), revealed osteolytic bone destruction and soft tissue expansion. Histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) analyses confirmed monoclonal plasma cell proliferation (CD38+, CD79a+, MUM-1+

Extramedullary plasmacytoma with the uvula as first affected site: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) represents one of the rarer forms of plasma cell malignancies, capable of impacting a variety of tissues and organs throughout the body. The majority of EMP cases are predominantly found in the head and neck region, especially within the laryngopharynx, as well as in the gastrointestinal tract. While there have been documented instances of oropharyngeal involvement in EMP cases in the academic literature, it is important to note that EMP specifically affecting the uvula is exceedingly uncommon. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that over 60% of epithel

Silent intruders: Hematolymphoid neoplasms revealed in the jaws: a series of three cases.

The head and neck regions, rich in lymph nodes, are common initial sites for nodal and extranodal hematolymphoid neoplasms, particularly B-cell neoplasms. Lymphomas, including Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's types, range from indolent to aggressive and often affect the oral and maxillofacial areas. Plasma cell neoplasms, such as solitary bone plasmacytoma (SBP) and solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP), must be distinguished from multiple myeloma (MM) due to varied treatment modalities. Diagnosing these neoplasms is challenging, requiring thorough examination. Timely recognition and managemen

Acute suppression of translation by hyperthermia enhances anti-myeloma activity of carfilzomib.

Hyperthermia is a unique treatment option for cancers. Multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable and innovative therapeutic options are needed. We investigated the efficacy of hyperthermia and carfilzomib in combination against MM cells. Although MM cell lines exhibited different susceptibilities to pulsatile carfilzomib treatment, mild hyperthermia at 43℃ induced MM cell death in all cell lines in a time-dependent manner. Hyperthermia and carfilzomib cooperatively induced MM cell death even under suboptimal conditions. The pro-survival mediators PIM2 and NRF2 accumulated in MM cells due to inhi

Skeletal muscle extramedullary plasmacytoma transformed into plasmablastic plasmacytoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare plasma cell malignancy, especially when the tumor originates in skeletal muscle. Plasmablastic plasmacytoma is an anaplastic round cell tumor with highly malignancy and poor prognosis. To date, there have been no reports on the transformation of skeletal muscle EMP into plasmablastic plasmacytoma. Therefore, the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of cases of this pathologic transformation are unclear. CASE PRESENTATION: This article reports a case of an elderly male patient who presented with a painless mass in the right calf and was di

Case with translating to multiple myeloma at 8 years after radiation therapy for extramedullary plasmacytoma of the larynx.

We report a case of extramedullary plasmacytoma of the larynx that was eradicated by radiotherapy; however, 8 years later, the disease had progressed to multiple myeloma. A mid -60s Japanese woman presented with a right-sided arytenoid mass in the larynx who underwent biopsy at another hospital. Based on the biopsy results, the patient was diagnosed with extramedullary plasma cell tumour and was referred to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at our hospital. She received radiotherapy (50.4 Gy) and the laryngeal tumour was eradicated. Positron emission tomography/CT (PET-CT) revealed no abno

Solitary Extramedullary Plasmacytoma of the Left Lower Eyelid: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma (SEP) is a collection of plasma cells in soft tissue tumors characterized by monoclonal plasma cells without systemic symptoms or evidence of bone disease. We present a case of SEP in a 49-year-old African American patient who presented with a slowly enlarging eyelid mass and underwent an excisional biopsy with ophthalmology before the diagnosis was confirmed by pathology in the absence of systemic symptoms or bone disease. Our review found only six confirmed cases of SEP of the eyelid described in the literature. In such cases, treatment is typically surgi

Cutaneous Plasmacytoma with Systemic Metastases in a Cape Serotine Bat (Laephotis capensis).

Despite their relatively long life-spans, reports of neoplasia in bats are rare and are limited to a handful of cases. In this report, we describe a 2-year-old female wild Cape serotine bat (Laephotis capensis) that had been caught by a domestic cat and presented with a skin mass over the chest area. Histopathological analysis of a subsequent biopsy revealed proliferating sheets of neoplastic round cells, occasionally appearing to form packets, supported by a fine, fibrovascular stroma. Marked nuclear pleomorphism was seen, as well as a high mitotic count. Immunohistochemistry displayed positi

[Consensus for the diagnosis and management of extramedullary plasmacytoma in China(2024)].

Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a special type of malignant plasmacytosis, which is complex and heterogeneous. Most EMP patients have poor prognosis and lack a stratified prognostic system or ideal treatment strategy supported by evidence-based medical evidence, which cannot meet clinical needs. In order to improve the understanding of this disease entity, Plasma Cell Disease Group, Chinese Society of Hematology, Chinese Medical Association and Chinese Myeloma Committee-Chinese Hematology Association developed the "Chinese Expert Consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of extramedullary
