Myeloid sarcoma is a malignancy characterized by the excessive proliferation of immature myeloid cells or myeloblasts, leading to tumor formation outside the bone marrow. This condition often manifests before or after the onset of acute myeloid leukemia or during a relapse following initial remission. Myeloid sarcoma develops in any organs or parts of the body, but its occurrence in the mediastinum is rare. We report 2 cases of myeloid sarcoma in the mediastinum. The first case was a 63-year-old woman who experienced exertional dyspnea and was found to have a mediastinal mass along with a left

Hematolymphoid tumors of the breast are uncommon. They either represent a secondary site of a known hematological malignancy or a primary disease (sometimes linked to systemic treatment such as chemotherapy for other cancers). The majority of primary breast lymphomas are B-cell lymphomas, with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma being the most prevalent. T-cell lymphomas (potentially associated with certain breast implants), plasmacytomas, and myeloid sarcomas have also been reported. The prognosis and treatment depend on the specific type of hematolymphoid neoplasm. It is crucial to identify the he

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is predominantly an adult disease, with significantly lower incidence in children. Myeloid sarcoma (MS), an extramedullary manifestation of AML, can occur in various tissues, though it is exceptionally rare in the orbit. The variable nature of MS complicates its diagnosis and treatment. In this report, we present the case of an eight-year-old boy who exhibited bilateral proptosis and an orbital mass. Initial investigations revealed thrombocytopenia and leukopenia. Imaging tests confirmed an expansive retroorbital lesion. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated positivity

BACKGROUND: Granulocytic sarcoma (GS) or myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a tumor of hematopoietic stem cell origin composed of myeloblasts or immature myeloid cells presenting as tumor masses in an extramedullary site. The tumor can affect any site of the body but are commonly seen in the skin, bone and lymph node. It may develop de novo or concurrently with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myeloproliferative disorder (MPD) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). MS may precede AML by months or years or present as an initial manifestation of relapse in a previously treated AML in remission. On light microscop

A 23-year-old man with a history of Ph-Like B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) with JAK2 rearrangement presented with innumerable skin lesions developing over 1 week. Before presentation, he had multiple relapses of his B-ALL and underwent autologous UCD-19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. Lesions appeared 1.5 months after completion of therapy. Biopsies showed new onset myeloid sarcoma (MS), with continued remission of B-ALL. 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed numerous markedly hypermetabolic soft tissue lesions located in the skin and subcutaneous tissues, muscles, osseous struct

Myeloid sarcoma (MS), or extramedullary acute myeloid leukaemia tumour (eAML), is a rare hematopoietic neoplasm. Recognised as a distinct entity within acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), MS presents significant diagnostic challenges due to its rarity, clinical heterogeneity, and variable immunophenotypic and genetic characteristics. The mechanisms by which leukaemic stem cells (LSCs) migrate to form solid tumours in extramedullary (EM) sites remain unclear. MS can occur de novo, precede AML, and manifest alongside AML relapse. It can also develop with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) or myeloproli

PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy of three different rectal cleansing methods for reducing post-procedural infectious complications after transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 451 consecutive patients who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy were prospectively included in this study. All patients received targeted antimicrobial prophylaxis and underwent bowel preparation through laxative administration. The patients were divided into three groups on the basis of the method of rectal cleansing immediately before the procedure. Group I patients

IntroductionMyeloid sarcoma is a high-grade hematological malignancy that rarely occurs in the breast as the tumor is generally seen in the ribs, sternum, and orbital bones. We report a case of isolated myeloid sarcoma presenting as a breast mass and reviewed the literature to raise awareness of this disease.Case presentationA 20-year-old girl presented with a painless mass located in the upper outer quadrant of the left breast. The patient underwent a bilateral breast US revealing a central retroareolar large hypoechoic solid mass about 55 × 33 mm. A core needle biopsy was performed leading t

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Myeloid sarcoma is a rare, malignant solid tumor composed of the progenitor cells of the myeloid lineage. Often associated with acute myeloid leukemia. Intracranial localization is very rare and diagnosis is confirmed by immunohistochemistry. The purpose of this case is to highlight the diagnostic and surgical treatment of a pathologically confirmed case of cerebral myeloid sarcoma.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 28-year-old Tunisian man who was diagnosed with AML in 2019, went into remission and was admitted to hospital with headaches and visual dist

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare hematological malignancy characterized as an extramedullary tumor mass of neoplastic myeloid blasts that may involve various anatomical sites and affect their tissue structure. Given that MS is very rare, there is insufficient knowledge regarding its clinical features and no well-established therapeutic guidelines. We conducted a retrospective study of MS patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2016 using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We studied survival outcomes across different demographic and therapeutic subgroups. We also invest

BACKGROUND: Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) show overlapping clinicopathological presentations, which makes it challenging to differentiate on a small skin biopsy. NPM1 mutations are the most common genetic lesions in AML, accounting for one third of cases and cause an aberrant cytoplasmic delocalization of NPM1 mutants, which can be detected by an immunohistochemical stain. Frequency of NPM1 mutations in BPDCN remains controversial. We aimed to investigate NPM1 mutations in cutaneous BPDCN cases and compare them with cutaneous NPM1 positiv

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a solid mass of myeloid blasts outside the bone marrow (BM). Most cases occur in the setting of intramedullary acute myeloid leukemia (AML), but it can also present in the absence of overt BM disease, as a presentation of newly diagnosed or relapsed AML, or as a progression of myeloproliferative neoplasms or myelodysplastic syndromes. There are a few reports of spinal cord compression due to MS, and there is no consensus regarding its management. Here, we present a case of relapsed AML in the form of MS resulting in spinal cord compression and provide a comprehensive li

Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary mass lesion composed of myeloid blasts that disrupt tissue architecture. Myeloid sarcoma in the prostate is exceptionally rare, with fewer than 30 patients reported. Among these, 8 have been observed without a prior diagnosis of a hematolymphoid neoplasm. To date, concurrent prostatic myeloid sarcoma and adenocarcinoma have not been documented in the English-language literature. We present the first 2 myeloid sarcomas in the prostate occurring concurrently with high-grade prostatic adenocarcinoma, identified on core needle biopsy and radical prostatectomy i

A 19-month-old female with Down syndrome presented with recurrent left cheek swelling and left eye involvement, initially diagnosed as fasciitis/myositis and periorbital cellulitis. Despite empiric antibiotics, symptoms persisted. A whole-body CT scan revealed prominent lymph nodes, and a biopsy of the buccal mass showed myeloid sarcoma. Bone marrow aspiration confirmed acute myeloid leukemia. Following chemotherapy, the patient's symptoms resolved. This case underscores that acute leukemia may manifest as facial swelling or periorbital cellulitis, highlighting the importance of considering ex
