Histiocytic Sarcoma Arising in a Background of Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Histiocytic sarcoma is a very rare aggressive neoplasm of mature histiocytes which may present as a primary malignancy or transforming from a primary B-cell lymphoma that includes chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, and extra nodal marginal zone lymphoma. A 69-year-old female presented with lymphadenopathy, and CT scan of chest, abdomen, and pelvis revealed extensive lymphadenopathy. Left axillary lymph node excision was performed. Histologic sections showed enlarged lymph nodes with architectural effacement by nodular and diffuse infiltrate comprising

Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis and Other Histiocytic Lesions.

BACKGROUND: Histiocytoses, including Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), comprise a diverse group of histiocytic disorders characterized by the abnormal accumulation and proliferation of histiocytes in various tissues or organs throughout the body, ranging from benign, self-limited conditions to aggressive malignancies and systemic inflammatory syndromes. These lesions present unique diagnostic challenges due to their broad spectrum of clinical presentations, overlapping histopathological and immunophenotypical features, and genetic complexity. METHODS: This review analyzes major histiocytic

Case report: Histiocytic sarcoma as transdifferentiation of a marginal zone lymphoma-a case presentation based on post mortem examination and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare and aggressive hematopoietic malignancy characterized by the proliferation of cells resembling mature histiocytes. It typically presents in extranodal sites such as the skin, the gastrointestinal tract, and soft tissues and is often accompanied by systemic symptoms including fever and weight loss. HS occurs de novo or results from transformation/transdifferentiation from other hematological neoplasms, such as low-grade B-cell lymphomas. To date, only four cases of HS arising from marginal zone lymphomas (MZL) have been documented. CASE PRESENTATI

A One Health Zoonotic Vector Borne Infectious Disease Family Outbreak Investigation.

This study reinforces the value of a One Health approach to infectious disease outbreak investigations. After the onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms in their son, our investigation focused on a family composed of a mother, father, two daughters, the son, two dogs, and a rabbit, all with exposures to vectors (fleas and ticks), rescued dogs, and other animals. Between 2020 and 2022, all family members experienced illnesses that included neurological symptoms. Prolonged menorrhagia (130d) in the youngest daughter ultimately resolved following antibiotic administration. One dog was diagnosed with

Oral histiocytic sarcoma: A case report and literature review.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare and aggressive malignancy derived from mature histiocytes, accounting for less than 1% of hematologic disorders. Clinically, HS varies from localized disease with a solitary mass to disseminated disease, often associated with other hematolymphoid neoplasms. Its aggressive nature results in poor outcomes, with a median survival of six months in disseminated cases. HS is exceedingly rare in the oral cavity, with only ten cases reported in the literature. Diagnosis is challenging due to significant histological overlap with other entities. This report describes

Primary Cutaneous Histiocytic Sarcoma: A Rare Case.

Histiocytic sarcoma is a rare malignancy composed of neoplastic cells that resemble macrophages in morphology and immunoprofile. It manifests in lymph nodes or extranodal sites, with the majority occurring in the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system, spleen, skin, and soft tissues. Clinical manifestations depend on organ involvement, with systemic symptoms, including fever, fatigue, night sweats, weight loss, and weakness. A significant proportion of patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage, which is associated with high mortality rates. In this report, we highlight the case of an

Parthenolide As a Therapeutic for Disseminated Canine Neoplasms.

This study provides a unique translational research opportunity to help both humans and dogs diagnosed with diseases that carry dismal prognoses in both species: histiocytic sarcoma (HS), hemangiosarcoma (HSA), and disseminated mastocytosis/mast cell tumor (MCT). Although exceedingly rare in humans, these so called "orphan diseases" are relatively more common in dogs. For these and other more commonplace cancers like lymphoma (Lym), dogs are an excellent translational model for human disease due to remarkably similar disease biology. In this study, assays were performed to assess the therapeut

Demographics and additional haematologic cancers of patients with histiocytic/dendritic cell neoplasms.

AIMS: The discovery of somatic genetic alterations established many histiocytic disorders as haematologic neoplasms. We aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics and additional haematologic cancers of patients diagnosed with histiocytic disorders in The Netherlands. METHODS AND RESULTS: We retrieved data on histiocytosis patients from the Dutch Nationwide Pathology Databank (Palga). During 1993 to 2022, more than 4000 patients with a pathologist-assigned diagnosis of a histiocytic disorder were registered in Palga. Xanthogranulomas were the most common subtype, challenging the prev

Atypical disseminated histiocytic sarcoma in a 7-month-old dog.

A 7-month-old intact female bearded collie dog was admitted after a 2-week history of progressive cough, inappetence, and lethargy, with no response to previous treatment with doxycycline and steroids. Mild attenuation of lung sounds in the right middle hemithorax was the only abnormality detected on physical examination. Abdominal ultrasound and thoracic radiographs were performed and revealed multifocally distributed nodules and masses, well-circumscribed and of variable size in the kidneys and pulmonary parenchyma. Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirates of the renal and pulmonary masses we

Histiocytic sarcoma mimicking localized tenosynovial giant cell tumor in the pediatric foot: A rare case report with MRI Findings.

We present a rare case of histiocytic sarcoma (HS) occurring in the foot of a 12-year-old male, initially misdiagnosed as localized tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TSGCT). HS is an exceptionally uncommon hematologic malignant neoplasm, with its occurrence in children and extranodal sites being even rarer. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of extranodal HS in the foot, emphasizing comprehensive MRI findings. Initially, the patient was diagnosed with TSGCT based on histological results following surgical resection. However, after recurrence and subsequent surgical resection, histo

Histiocytic sarcoma of the spleen without thrombocytopenia.

One case of histiocytic sarcoma of the spleen is reported. The patient, a 54-year-old female, presented with a huge soft tissue mass with a clear border and pseudo capsule in the splenic parenchyma on CT. The density of the mass was uneven, multifocal cystic necrosis and irregular bleeding were observed inside, but no calcification could be seen. On contrast-enhancement scan, the solid component of tumor exhibited moderate progressive enhancement, and area of cystic necrosis exhibited no enhancement. In MRI, T1WI showed mixed low signal, and T2WI showed mixed slightly high signal. The patholog

First description of a primary esophageal histiocytic sarcoma in a dog.

An 11-year-old male Schnauzer dog was referred for investigation of cough and regurgitation of one month duration and gradual hyporexia for the previous five months. Complete blood count showed severe leukocytosis. On ventrodorsal and lateral thoracic radiographs a soft tissue mass was visible in the craniodorsal mediastinum. Endoscopy showed esophageal dilatation and an irregular, nodular, friable, exophytic mass in the thoracic esophagus, which was invasive, vascularized and had ulcerated areas. The mass occluded approximately 90% of the esophageal lumen. The mucosa in the orad portion of th

Metastatic Histiocytic Sarcoma with Secondary Involvement of the Skin: A Case Report.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant neoplasm of presumed hematopoietic origin, showing morphologic and immunophenotypic evidence of histiocytic differentiation. A 61-year-old woman presented with an abdominal mass. She had a history of HS in both adrenal glands. The tumour cells of the left adrenal gland were very large epithelioid cells with abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm and large, round-to-oval nuclei. Similarly, the cutaneous lesion of the skin was composed of polygonal cells with well-defined cell borders and high nuclear/cytoplasm (N/C) ratios. Immunohistochemically, both tumou
