Twenty-one of 34 simultaneous cancers involving the endometrium and ovary were classified as endometrial primary tumors with ovarian metastases. The criteria for this classification were either a multinodular ovarian pattern (major criterion) or two or more of the following minor criteria: small (less than 5 cm) ovary(ies), bilateral ovarian involvement, deep myometrial invasion, vascular invasion, and tubal lumen involvement. Full cytogenetic analysis of 27 different retinoblastoma tumors is presented. Gross aneuploidy of chromosome arms 6p and 1q were very common, being observed in 15/27 and 21/27 tumors, respectively. However, we found that chromosome 13 was rarely missing: only 3/27 had a detectable monosomy affecting 13q14. The Connecticut Tumor Registry (CTR) was established in 1941 and is the oldest population-based cancer registry in the world. Since 1935, all malignant tumors have been registered, and cancer patients are followed annually for vital status. Reporting by hospitals of all cancers diagnosed in Connecticut residents became mandatory in 1971. The reporting physician or hospital makes the initial determination as to whether a tumor is an independent primary cancer, recurrent tumor, or metastatic lesion. Glucocorticoid hormones selectively stimulate the rate of transcription of integrated mammary tumor virus (MTV) sequences in infected rat hepatoma cells. Using two independent assays, we find that purified rat liver glucocorticoid receptor protein binds specifically to at least four widely separated regions on pure MTV proviral DNA. Results for non-simultaneously diagnosed malignant tumors from Connecticut indicate that individuals with one malignant neoplasm have 1.29 times the risk of developing a new independent primary tumor when compared to individuals who never had cancer (P less than 0.01). Cell-mediated immune challenge reactions to a number of antigens at tumor sites resulted in regressions of various types of benign, premalignant, and malignant lesions in man. Regressions varied from partial to complete and lasted from several months to more than 10 years.
