Cytomegalic inclusion-body disease was found at necropsy in the lungs of a 57-year-old diabetic man. The characteristic large cells were found in all parts of the lungs. The alveolar walls showed no cellular infiltration, supporting Hamperl's suggestion that the cytomegalic virus alone may be incapable of causing pneumonitis. A chronic progressive granulomatous disease of the lungs is described in a female chemist who worked for about two years with a beryllium compound in the manufacture of fluorescent lighting tubes. The basement membrane, i.e., the intercellular layer between endothelium and alveolar epithelium, was found to be of variable width. There are many causes of abnormal protrusion of one or both eyes, the most common of which is imbalance of the glands of internal secretion. Among other causes are a variety of tumors that originate behind the eye or that extend to that location from other parts in the body.
