Intracytoplasmic deposits demonstrated to be calcifications have been identified in nipple aspirates from 3.6 per cent of breasts with satisfactory cytology. Studies of amniotic fluid obtained at various times throughout the last trimester of pregnancy from patients with carcinoma of the cervix indicate a complete deficiency of peroxidase activity. Dialysis partially restores the enzyme activity. Cervical epithelial tumor cells apparently release a dialyzable, low molecular weight inhibitory substance directed specifically toward peroxidase. The stroma and stromal reaction in normal breast, benign, and malignant breast tissue was studied by electron microscopy. Calusterone (7 alpha, 17beta-dimethyltestosterone) is an orally effective weakly androgenic steroid. The antitumor efficacy of calusterone, 200 mg per day against objectively progressing advanced breast cancer in females has already been reported. The choice of operation for ductal carcinoma of the pancreas is as yet not clear. Failure to make an early diagnosis still stands out as the major problem in the treatment of this disease and as a result the resectability rate is exceedingly low. Cellular whorls with or without secondary calcification are generally regarded as reliable diagnostic criteria in the differential diagnosis of meningiomas. They may however occasionally occur in other primary and metastatic brain tumors. Five cases (metastatic laryngeal carcinoma, metastatic mammary carcinoma, metastatic melanoma, medulloblastoma, and giant cell glioblastoma) are presented to illustrate this phenomenon occurring in non-meningothelial brain tumors.

319 cases of breast pathology of doubtful clinical diagnosis were studied by means of thermography and mammography, with histological verification: 214 proved to be malignant tumours and 105 benign. The role of thermography is discussed on the basis of these results; it would appear to be restricted to diagnostic aid status associated with other procedures, particularly clinical examination and mammography.

Tamoxifen (NSC-180973; ICI-46474) can provide palliation to patients with advanced breast cancer whose tumors contain estrogen-binding proteins (EBP). The drug is most effective in patients with bone metastasis and minimal prior therapy. In the present study, 72 patients with advanced breast cancer were evaluated for their response to oral tamoxifen therapy administered at a dose of 20 mg twice daily. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast occurred in a total of six men from two families. In one family specimens from three men who had prophylactic mastectomies revealed focal intraductal hyperplasia, suggesting a familial tendency toward proliferation of mammary-duct epithelium. In the other family, benign and malignant breast lesions also developed in several women. Preliminary data suggest elevated urinary oestrogen excretion in three men from these families, implicating a defect in oestrogen production or metabolism in the pathogenesis of male breast neoplasms.
