The superior shoulder suspensory complex (S.S.S.C.), a bony/soft tissue structure, is important both for its role as an intact unit and for the individual components that make up this unit. Traumatic "double disruptions" of the S.S.S.C. frequently create an unstable anatomic situation with adverse long-term healing and functional consequences. Scapula winging is an uncommon condition but one which may be underdiagnosed. Four patients with scapula winging referred to a sports injury clinic are presented. None of the patients was aware of any trauma and a traction injury to the long thoracic nerve is proposed as the aetiology of this condition. These case reports emphasize the importance of excluding winging of the scapula in patients who present to sports injury clinics with shoulder pain.

Fifty-four patients with suprascapular nerve entrapment were evaluated on an average of 5.6 years (range, 2-9 years) after surgical release. There were 32 males and 22 females. Supposed causative factor was exertion at work or vacation in 36 cases. Sixteen patients had an atrophy of the supraspinatus and 26 of the infraspinatus muscle. Conduction time to the supraspinatus muscle was 4.5 ms (range, 2.2-14.4 ms), and to the infraspinatus, 8.6 ms (range, 2.5-43.6 ms). Four cases of long thoracic mononeuropathy associated with sports participation are presented. Each patient developed shoulder pain or dysfunction after an acute event or vigorous activity, and demonstrated scapular winging consistent with serratus anterior weakness. Fractures of the scapula are often considered benign lesions with a favorable outcome. The aim of the current study was to analyze the long-term results after fracture of the muscle-covered parts of the scapula: its body, neck, and spine. Sixty-eight patients were available for clinical examination 14 years after they had sustained a fracture of the scapula. The fractures had been treated with immobilization and early active motion. Giant cell tumors are distinctive neoplasms characterized by a profusion of multinucleate giant cells scattered throughout a stroma of mononuclear cells. Most giant cell tumors are found at the epiphyses of long bones, especially around the knee joint. Flat bone involvement is rare. However, a case of giant cell tumor with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst was encountered at the scapula of a 25-year-old man. Since the occurrence of a giant cell tumor with secondary aneurysmal bone cyst on flat bones (i.e., the scapula) is extremely rare, the above-mentioned case is worthy of reporting.

Transplantation of the scapular bone vascularized by the thoracodorsal vessels offers some major advantages. This new myo-osseous grafting unit has the longest pedicle of all pedicled bone flaps used until now. Scapular fractures have been the subject of study since Desault's treatise of 1805, but few large-scale studies have been completed with long-term follow-up evaluation of displaced scapular neck and spine fractures. A judo injury resulted in an anterior shoulder dislocation with a concomitant lesion of the long thoracic and the dorsal scapula nerve. This injury led to loss of function and extreme instability of the shoulder. Stabilization of the glenohumeral joint was successfully accomplished by surgery. The athlete declined further operative approaches to stabilize the scapula. The patient was able to return to the former level of athletic activity.
