Bracken fern (Pteridium esculentum) was harvested from two sites LB and TB one of which (TB) was on a central North Island New Zealand farm where bovine enzootic haematuria (BEH) was known to occur. The fern was dried, ground and incorporated (25% w/w) into a pelleted diet and fed to female rats for a total of 162 days. Various mechanisms have been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of infantile glaucoma in the Sturge-Weber syndrome. We report the results of treating six patients with combined trabeculectomy and cyclocryotherapy. Successful control of the intraocular pressure occurred in all patients. Two patients required a second procedure at another site. We feel that the success of this procedure provides evidence that the glaucoma is secondary to elevated episcleral venous pressure in this condition.

The cancer incidence was studied in 18,030 patients (33% males, 67% females) with skin hemangioma who were admitted to Radiumhemmet, Karolinska Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden, 1920-1959. Radium-226 sources were used in 12,821 patients, x-ray therapy was used in 2,515 patients, and no radiotherapy was given to 2,694 patients. The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate (a) the diagnosis and treatment of 80 consecutive patients with severe, ongoing hematochezia from unknown source and (b) the effectiveness and safety of urgent colonoscopy after oral purge. Vascular hamartomas in childhood may occur in isolation, or in a more generalized form with both cutaneous and visceral involvement. Twenty-five patients with an apparently primary sarcoma of the liver are reviewed. Presenting complaints were non-specific, but hepatomegaly and abnormal liver function tests were usual. The salivary glands can be the site of a wide array of pathologic conditions. Information from the history is very important in diagnosis. During physical examination, the clinician can determine whether a mass is distinct or diffusely enlarged and can check for mobility and skin fixation. Three patients with large fatty retroperitoneal tumours are presented. In all three the fatty mass was visible (but initially not recognized as such) on plain abdominal radiographs. Computed tomography (CT) confirmed the presence of fat within these tumours. Attention is drawn to the importance of the correct interpretation of the plain abdominal radiograph when such fatty tumours are present. Computed tomography then proves the presence of fat as well as site of origin of such tumours.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EH) is a recently described unusual vascular neoplasm of the soft tissues. Apparently identical tumors have also been described in the lung and and liver. In 16 years 13,869 dogs were autopsied. Angiosarcomas were found in 321 cases (2.3%). The frequency has increased since 1981 and was doubled. The authors review 30 documented cases of intracranial and orbital cavernous angiomas treated at their institution between 1965 and 1984.
