There are three principal malignant vasoformative tumors that can be found in the head and neck--hemangiopericytoma, angiosarcoma, and Kaposi's sarcoma. All are uncommon and provide challenges for the pathologist and the therapist both. The histogenesis of each tumor is different. Kaposi's sarcoma has many features which suggest that it is an altered immune-response disease. Angiosarcoma is a malignancy of endothelium. NZR/Gd is a new inbred strain of albino rats subject to epithelial mesotheliomas of the heart and also to hepatic glycogen storage disease. The age-specific incidences of neoplasms in 650 untreated NZR rats are tabulated by sex and histopathologic type. Brain scanning by scintigraphy and CT studies of the brain are complementary methods. The precise demonstration of the anatomy and the pathology of the brain by CT is supplemented by brain scintigraphy due to the latter's value to assess the hemodynamic properties of a lesion and thus provide important clues to its site and sometimes even its histology. This is especially true in vascular brain disease thus either dispensing the need for an invasive procedure such as angiography or providing information for a specific approach.

Pyogenic granuloma (PG) has a diagnostic, lobular arrangement of capillaries at its base. The lobules consist of discrete clusters of endothelial cells, and the lumina vary from indistinct to prominent. The superficial portions of the lesion may undergo secondary, nonspecific changes including stromal edema, capillary dilation, inflammation, and a granulation tissue reaction. A case of intracortical haemangioma in the tibial diaphysis is reported. The radiological and macroscopic features were identical with osteoid osteoma. In view of this similarity, haemangiomata, despite their rarity at this site, must be considered in the differential diagnosis of osteoid osteoma.

Subcutaneous injection of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine into female CBA mice once a week resulted in the development of tumours of the colon, anal region, uterus and liver. In 12-13-month-old mice treated with DMH an earlier appearance (week 8) of uterine sarcomas and more rapid increase in the incidence of tumours of the anal region were noted as compared to 3-month-old mice. In pregnant females treated with DMH a statistically significant decrease in the uterine sarcoma incidence was observed (10.3% versus 48.3% in nonpregnant). Pregnancy exerted no effect on the incidence of tumours at other sites.

Hemangiopericytoma is a vascular tumor arising from contractile cells, the pericyte of Zimmermann. The neoplasms most frequently involve deep musculature; however, 16% occur in the head and neck region. Presented are three cases of hemangiomas of skeletal muscle in which the presenting symptom was pain. Examination revealed almost spot tenderness at the site of the tumor, but no masses were palpable. Treatment was exicision. Results of surgery usually are good, although local recurrence can follow incomplete resection, as it did in one of our cases.
